first of all... all that matters is what you sound like... not what you use... unless of course you aren't playing an instrument at all... which is ok anyways (just cant claim you are a good instrumentalist then)
if you aren't cheating or coming up with the easiest way to play guitar... then you aren't playing it right anyways.
This is the dude bro! He inspired Guthrie Govan to play and countless others. I love his funky shred fusion style. I prefer this guy over that ego idiot malmsteen, satriani, and perhaps even vai. This guy, Guthrie Govan, and Paul Gilbert are freaking amazing along with Jeff Loomis and Rob Marcello
@blackblurable everyone should stop giving malmsteen shit for playing fast! nobody i know personally plays like him, anyone who disses him, should post a video. not cool to mock such a legend!
@TheNeverendingfire its not fast. All these guys can play fast. Its repeatign the same ideas which Malmsteen is guilty for. Howe is way more creative and unique. He practically invented a unique way of tapping at the peak of his appearance in the late 80's for one
Funny stuff; cheating at playing music. what, are you people 14? So Johnny Cash was cheating by using a $ bill to do the same thing so he's a big fake cheater too at playing music. Grow up and appreciate some unique music, b/c there isn't much out there. Howe is amazing and underrated and that is probably a good thing.
all the haters need to stop man greg will blow all of us away right now..hair tie just makes the noise cleaner why wouldnet you want your sound to be at its finest.. you guys must of grown up with asshole parents it must b all you no .just no he is famous and your not..
@19VanHalen84 i wouldn't really call it 'training wheels', after all, you play certain notes on a guitar thats been compressed/distorted the resonance occuring in certain strings will cloud out other notes. All the tie does is prevent that - if anything it frees you up.
Not nearly as restricting (or should I say criminal :P) as people who use capos, after all, I don't retune my piano every time I wanna play somethng in a different key lol.
@albystebbs Right, but you don't need the hair tie to keep those notes ringing, just mute them with your hand. He's still a great guitarist, Marty Friedman did some similar things to that when he played, it's just like they're cheating.
@19VanHalen84 You obviously cant play, i know this because if you could play, you would comment on his unbeilevable technique or amazing selection of notes. Cant believe you are pickin bad points about howe and friedman. Low self asteem dude, get over it
@timtimtim1888 Even so, he managed to play for thousands and thousands of people with his less than successful tours with MJ and Timberlake. Altough he's exaclty known for the majority as just that: some other guys's guitarrist. When in reallity Greg's music is as rich (and even more) as the music of their fellow tour mates...
it would be awesome if he made an album where he revisited the best of his older stuff, and updated them with all the stuff he's learned over the years, similar to the way this was done.
I saw him twice last year. One time it was €20 or something and the second time was the same week and that was for free! Somekind of jazzfestival, he gave a free clinic as well, it was brilliant!
it took me a while to get the groove from this version because I was thinking of the original solo from the first Greg Howe solo album, but then I realized how much more advanced and mature and CLEAN his playing is now compared to 1988......this man is a true virtuoso.
check Greg Howe's Ascend... then we'll talk about neoclassical---

@19VanHalen84 Why is it cheating ? Since when has playing guitar become a technical competition ? Its about the music.

Greg Howe and Marty Friedman are my favorite improvisers, but too bad this recording's quality isn't at its best.

I agree w/ U. Howe's great and Marty rocks too. You know a guy called Guthrie Govan? If you don't hurry.
bumblesouth 2 years ago
He's always been a very conceptual player. I remember this from his first album with shrapnel.
