Did Beck know that Stewart was coming out? It appears that he looks back when the crowd starts cheering but then when he starts singing, he seems like he sees a ghost and then is taken back.
If you've liked this great live performance, check out "Se Bastasse Una Canzone Roma Live" - a little surprise at the end of it - a really, really good guitar riff ;-)
@DickLodge68 for the record it is actually at 3:49. The song modulates to a new key. Beck plays the hook in the right key but when he goes back to play the chords he plays the chord from the old key. Catches it right away . . . Played this song a thousand times know a muff when I hear one. Huge Back fan, actually saw the Truth band twice back in 1969. Nice to know the guy is not perfect.
@richdys Wow that's hardly a muff or flub! Jeez... no one is a good guitarist in your eyes, if you call that a mistake! I hope no one criticizes your playing as much you do others! Simply baffling to me! Yes, Jeff Beck isn't God or perfect. But you sure sound like you think your shit doesn't stink!
Every time I see...hear this. It makes me cry. Sue me! Damn Beck can make it wail....and with Rod, it just makes it something special. Get ready.....you do need some faith. I'm getting ready....oh, I hope!
Wow... normally in my comments I'm pretty wordy, but it's so awesome (and crisp sonically) that there's little to say here. However, gems like these are why YouTube was invented!
@SuperJohnnyv Dude... Sit down before you read this... They have gotten back together and are in the process of recording a new album... They are possibly touring the US starting in October :)
When I told my girlfriend that if I would ever be lucky enough to meet Tal Wilkenfeld and we´d hit it off, I would imediatly leave my girl and marry Tal. She smiled and called me silly. She didn´t realise I wasn´t kidding.
I love this song. Why do people use the f ---- word on here all the time--is it low IQ or lack of vocabulary or both? I think people get on you tube for enjoyment--not for your low level comments!!!! I believe we all know Rod Stewart is very talented--his longevity is this tough business has proven that many times.
@vetralovesdoug WTF? What country are you from? One which insults a whole people for a word some of them use? Bet your country uses the f-word too or your own version of it. Slang is how a language grows. The f-word is very useful, like "Why did that f-ing f-er f--- up my f-ing f-mobile, now I'm f-ing late"

Rod Stewart is a terrible singer. The only thing he has going for him is that he's a white man. However, Jeff Beck and that lady on bass are AWESOME! Nothing turns me on more than a bass-playing female......
I LOL'ed at this one. You may not like how he sounds, but I bet you wish you could make 1/10th of the money he has made because EVERYBODY ELSE thinks he is a very good, if not arguably one of the BEST rock singers in history. This was one of those magic combos from back in the day, like Clapton and Allman.
Hey guys cut the religous stuff, everyone has their beliefs - remember this a music site for those who love life and everything especially MUSIC - so just rejoice at the possibility of Jeff and Rod getting together and bringing us all lovely music.

showing my age but I actually saw the 1st JB Group in '67 when I was like 14 at the Alexandria roller rink in Alexandria, VA. Spirit opened the show. I was just learning guitar and I got to see Hendrix the same year. Randy California, Jeff Beck and Hendrix - imagine that. Saw Hendrix 2 more times before he died and caught Beck every chance I could. Man how I love all these guys!
@1971Goldtop - cool. i saw them on the same tour but at the Fillmore in San Francisco. Amazingly fantastic, that original Jeff Beck Group w/ Rod. And the whole show with 3 bands was $3.50 a ticket and you could hang out at the foot of the stage, no chairs, people dancing and smoking doobie. What an era.
LOL, This was not a surprise at all, they sound checked earlier and Rod used his own mic at soundcheck and at the venue. Mick Jagger was in the audience that night, as was Joe Perry. Good acting on Jeff's part.
@PhilipK100 It's his monitor...not a hearing aid as ShredTha505 said. Lots of people have started using these in the last ten years, as opposed to traditional stage monitors.
@godlike51 Because they might forget it? They felt at the moment that they wanted to ALWAYs HAVE THE MOMENT. they feel that "having" the moment forever is capturing it like this video! Why did they make this video? They wanted OTHERS to see it and make them happy. Maybe they wanted the pics so they could look back and remember the night. Maybe it was the night someone got married, and they went to this show?
People say that Clapton is God. I have seen both Clapton and Beck many times, and saw them together last winter at Madison Square Garden. Sometimes Eric can put on an awfully boring show. I have never seen Jeff be anything but great. He is a true Guitar God.
@goofydog2 I believe he sang Ain't Superstitious as well. If you have ever heard their album "Truth" from the late 60s you'll know what a treat that is.

Muito bacana essa dupla. Gente boa do som, que marcou "épocas". Bem que esse tempo poderia voltar a figurar entre os primeiros lugares e não essa turma que pensa que sabe fazer música hoje em dia.
@slickguitar That is Tal wilkenfield, shes played with Beck for a few years, and she is older than you think :P She probably knows what she was part of
Too seemless to be a real surprise. But still sweet if you remember the old days. Nice to hear Stewart sing with substance and not just style. Perhaps Jeff's quality and class made him rise to the occasion. Nice to see old pros play together again. Now all we need is Aynsley Dunbar and Ronnie Wood for the original Jeff Beck Group..Old well...we can dream, can't we?
Happy Birthday Rod

I wonder if the 12 year old girl on bass knows what a great moment she was part of?
Anybody have any idea who that bass player is?

Great song. I remember the MTV version when it was new, so it's cool to see a live recording. Awesome audio quality, too.
