I have just bought a sora groupset and realised how little I know about bike parts! The sora front derailleur has nothing to attach it to the seat post is this another item I have to purchase separately?
Thanks so much! I was in a mess, there was a sound from my FD touching the chain, so I tried adjusting limiting screws and screwed up the whole thing.
Then I watched your video, loosened everything and set up the derailler from scratch. It's working better than it was when it was new, and I now know a little bit more about my bike. :)
ummm when i install the shifter cable, has it got to ve very tense, or loose???because then i can't shift the gears to the largest chainring :S please help
man what a great video thanks man.Its crazy how many techs charge you arm and leg for a simple turn and tell you that your bike will be ready in a week lol.
Thank God you posted this video, I installed thumb shifter on my bike but I was having problems with the front derailleur. After I followed most of the steps as I could it finally started to shift right.
But, Sie brauchen einen Ketten-Nieter, den bekommt man im Fachhandel für Räder. Damit kann man die Kette an jeder Stelle auseinander und wieder zusammen machen. Preis ca. 9-11EUR
you will need a chain rivet tool to open out your chain, then put it through, then use the tool to re connect the chain. All you need is a chain rivet tool, really cheap £3 (uk)
thanks, this is a good video. i had problems with the other videos because some idiot is always in front of what hes doing. definitely the best video to follow if your installing a front derailleur.

At the end part, is the chain supposed to be close to the inner or outer plate of the deraileur? How close?

Another how to video with annoying music. It's how-to, not entertainment. Figure out the difference between the two.

@emilianus12 Are your chain rings new or old, because they might be bent which would cause a problem.

The shifter cable must be tight, not extremely but no slack and make sure when your attaching it that the shifter is in the correct gear.

@spadoutDOTcom i have it like that but my FD wont even shift (I start at the lowest of gears and it wont shift up)

Nice video - but how shall I bring the chain into the derailleur??
HeinzundBerta 2 years ago
Well just start at the bottom of the rear derailleur and just follow the path so it is tensioned against the rollers.
giverandski 2 years ago
That's easy.....

Or you can open the derailleur cage screw and remove the derailleur with a joint chain

some things you left out or could have expanded on were.
1) how much tension on the cable.
2) what is the largest gear
other then that it is great.
