  • is this insuilation foam or what type and where can i get it

  • what is the foam stuff called and where can u get it

  • @InLoveWithMinecraft This is a 2 part foam that cures rather than air dries. The stuff in the can at the hardware store will not dry if used in a thick section. This is an A/B foam called R5 you can find on our webstore.

  • I was pretty darn sure the other one was the real one.....!

  • So if the foam expands 10 times it's original volume, it doesn't matter if we fill the mold completely? I plan on getting foam to use for my next project.

  • Nice easy project foe beginners like myself, thanks!

  • Whats wrong with a real hammer?

  • @theatomizer It's generally a bad idea to have actors waving around real hammers, blades, etc. on the set.

  • What type of silicone is that?

  • @lordtyamat That is a mold made with 71-20 silicone. It is available on our webstore. As it comes it is a pourable RTV silicone but you can also thicken it with tinthix or platthix for brush on molds like we did here.

  • @brickintheyard : PERFECT, thanks for your answer and of coarse I'll check your webstore. Now another questions: What type of plaster is the one you use?; Molding, Casting, Gauging, Pottery? I'm new at this..(self-taught)

    ..and what is the:

    Mix Ratio: ________

    Regular Set Time:_________

    Compression Strength: _________

Thanks in advance for your time.

  • @lordtyamat Check out our DVDs for more information. There are too many nuances to cover in a comment section!

  • Would really love to see a video on how to do this specific type of mold. (thin silicone skin keyed to a plaster support shell). block molds are just too costly in silicone

  • Great tips! What exactly do I need to buy to make molds for prop weapons? Do you have all the materials to buy on your site? I would like to make some foam weapons to go with my life-sized costumes. I do realistic cardboard ones, but was wondering what all I need to buy and if you videos explain the entire process? Thanks.

  • @sirbrad4 Go to our site. we have a huge selection of molding and casting supplies.

  • Can you please send me details on how to make the mold and what and how to do this. I am confused a bit but this was a really cool video.;)

  • @FVTscarefam We have some other videos up that cover that process. Look up the one where we mold scissors.

  • yes i just have a scalpal laying around

  • @IMsoNINJA12 Xacto knives work too but scalpels are easy to get. we have a surpluss shop here that sells them. Non sterile blades are also a bit cheaper than the medical grade.

  • would this work if i was putting resin in to the mold to pic up the paint

  • @MrJester1972 Yes.

  • You guys always rock on your vids! I love these props.

  • The end of this vid made me smile; I could barely tell the difference the two hammers until you thumped them on the table. Nice work ^^

  • great video weres the section on making the walls, the mold to put the foam in ?

  • @watdascrew There isn't a video of this mold but there is one for a 2 piece mold made of scissors.

  • where do you by the chemicals?????

  • @gnovakIII BITY Mold Supply.

  • could you make a mold out of some paraffin wax if i just had some laying around?

  • @iamthefroman Not sure.

  • You really made me want to try making props! Really inspiring!

  • how much would the silicone and the casting materials cost to make?

  • That mold used about $50 in silicone (71-20) and the hammer used about $ 1.50 of foam maybe less.

  • @brickintheyard

thanks :) I was wondering because I'm in a larp group and I had an idea to make some great weapons and this is what it was.

  • BITY, ,man, you are THE best. I only wish to be a tenth as good as you are.....

  • Hi there. I want to make this type of Mold, the silicone is 7120 brushed on,let is cure ,then the hydrocal shell brushed on over? . Is there a video tutorial for this modling process

  • There will be soon. Stay tuned.

  • question: whats the hydocal shell made of?i am trying to update my shopiing list.

  • Hydrocal and burlap.

  • I thought the real hammer was the real one LOL

  • EXCELLENT! A Friend of mine at Tom Savini's special makeup effects school made a hammer and it was so real-looking. Thanks for posting.

  • Is that soft enough to hit someone on the forehead without actually hurting him/her? If not, what foam would you recommend to be the softest?

  • Thin parts are difficult to cast in foam. Not impossible, but difficult. Good venting is the key to making sure the foam spreads out through the mold. Also you must move like a spider monkey on crack cocaine.

BTW, yes, you can make a poured mold and support it with boards.

  • Cool tutorial man. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.

  • Not meaning to be a nag, just checking to see if you've received my message about creating a vehicular sculpture of a sort. I'm wondering if this material might be possible to use. Thanks.

  • Hmmm. Must check in box...

  • Knuck,knuck,knuck......just like the Three Stooges.....

  • 7:10 lol thats what I do. works great

  • Sorry, I'm a bit confused. I need a video that would precede this one, the one that would show how to make the 2-part silicone mold and support shells for it, and how to divide the hammer into 2 using clay.

Is there such a video? If there is, what is its name? If there isn't, please make one.

    Thanks.

  • No video... yet. Due to the time constraints of youtube I may have to post it in several sections. Stay tuned.

  • yea this would be great if you could do this for us.

  • I love all your vids, and they have taught me an incredible amount. But I would love to see how you made the mould for the hammer. I could do a 2 part mould but mine would use nothing but silicone. Please think about posting a vid of the mould!

  • Time permitting we will be posting several new mold videos.

  • That is really awesome, i wanna do stuff like that. it looks so realistic

  • I am looking for a foam that will mimic the density and resilience of the blue foam used in sleeping mats for camping. I want to use it to replace the taped on blue 1/2 foam and mold it in place to improve the look and strength of our weapons. Our two handed swords are approximately 60 inches in length and must have at least one inch of foam on the striking surface to prevent severe injury, being that we strike metal armor at full force. Any sugestions on what to use??

  • A densely packed flexible foam would work. We carry a 5# that may be packed to a 8-10 lb density.

  • this is kind of off the subject, but would paint on the mold transfer to resin?

  • Yes.

  • is this the same foam that they use to float boats? i was trying to find your kind on ebay...i think the one i found said #4 foam for casting, is that good?

  • This is R5 which is a 5 lb density foam. We offer flexible and rigid foam on our web store.

  • thanks alot for all the info, your videos are always fun and impressive.

  • how did you make the keys for the plaster to connect to the silicone?

  • How did you make the mold for the hammer? I'm trying to learn how to make a mold for some prop swords I want to make out of plastic, but I need them to be hollow to put LED lights insides of them.

Any mold advice you could give me?

  • Really amazing!!!!the spray paint that was used was that lacquer paint or acrylic?pls e-mail me for that!tnx a lot & more power!!!!

  • How long have you been working with silicone and equipment to make props/masks etc. etc. I envy your work.

  • This is great! I love watching all of your videos!

I have to admit, when I was watching the last part of the video, I thought that the real hammer was the fake and vice versa, good job!

  • nice one. hehe id challenge someone to see how long theyy could hold it with one hand, arm stretched out. at the same time you do it and who ever holds it the longest wins money :P of course i would have the fake one

  • Great information. Now if we only knew how to do the mold of the hammer.

  • Hmmm. What a great idea. I'll see what I can do.

  • yeah please :D

  • Thanks guys I'm always learning with brickintheyard on the tube

  • awesome! one of these days im going to have to make my own molds for fishing equipment. Your videos help out!
