  • It's environmentally friendly enough to make the polar bars not maul people at the zoo.

  • If it uses fuel of any kind I don't want it WHOS WITH ME!!!

  • Why is this called a Hybrid if it is all electric? hybrid is not a mix of propulsion systems? >>this is a electric car not a hybrid<<

  • Try to sale this car in sweden :D

  • We want Hover Shoes!!!

  • @laowai121 but i don't believe its quality...

  • @laowai121 in fact, i don't believe BYD's quality..

  • I would be very worried about the drive by wire. Any glitch or EMI interference can cause problem.

  • @kumachn 20,000 ton freight trains and 400 ton mine trucks don't have any problem with it!

  • @tsport100 toyota did!

  • @kumachn too late for that worry. drive by wire has been out for a long time in production cars.

  • @kumachn its the future... its happening... the throttle in most avrage new cars is drive by wire already... you dont see cable or hardware linkage anymore...

  • @kumachn you can say that with any car, any EMIs could shut off a car going on the freeway. so get it right

  • @kumachn All Passenger Planes are drive by wire and fighter jets to... idiot

  • Where is this car? This concept was released in 2007, we are in 2011 and still i can see any car using this recharge concept. People, we are f... with time in an economic crisis and oil prices and I hate petrol companies for selling us something they extract from the earth but i HATE car companies even more for having solutions and waiting the end of the world for it. When we will start doing OUR BEST? Not only the things that make money ?????

  • So, how would the DIY person fix this car?

  • I wish they would sell the motors so u could retrofit them into a car

  • a TRUE hybrid car... nice

  • -_- yaah so much for burn outs

  • We need this now, not in 6 years... So we sit back and watch out air become more and more polluted because none of these great inventions seem to ever be available to the public until something catastrophic occurs. It is sad to see a potential solution to a global problem and then have the governing powers hold it at arms length...

  • what the hek is a In-wheel motor?

i thaugt that that is called a HUB motor :P

  • type ymmot1956 into search bar and look at mine.

  • 2015!?!?!? What the... I mean really people this technology is not new, and it is simple enough to incorporate into cars TODAY! This is why small companies such as Tesla are going to overtake the "Big Boys" in motoring.

  • probably around the year 2015??? ha ha ha ha ha ha !! don't hold your breath, folks

  • oops yes you are right

  • Wow, they can't kill that.

If all the wheels would turn to park, I'd be perfect.

    Beautiful car

  • SWEDEN RULES!!

  • this is fucking awesome, lower center of gravity, more space for the frontal protection ... and economy on the transmission

as always (with 3point seat belts, airbags, etc) Volvo leads the way LOL

  • yes volvo leads the way! , volvo are a big beautyfull machine and it will always be!

  • 2015 you gotta be kidding me.

Solar, wind, and water wave energy production is happening now along with many auto manufactures moving to full electric drive train cars. I'd say 2011 is more like it.

  • I think he meant that when the oil prices go back to more than $150/barrel, it'll come out ...

  • Why dont we just combine all these wonderful "green" ideas into!?!!? There always complaining about complications with a single theroy, why not make a frenkistein!!!!!????!?!?!?!

  • solar power and wind turbines on your roof. knock that shit right out.

  • fuck yeah

  • I predict we won't see electric vehicles taking over until the private sector completely takes over the electric utility market and sets electricity prices higher than gasoline.

  • The price of a kw/hr is approx the same now be it from a wall socket of a petrol pump.

The reason a petrol powered ICE costs 10x - 20x as much per mile to drive as an EV is they are about as energy efficient as an incandescent light bulb. You might be able to pack $100 worth of fuel in your cars tank, but $85 of it gets wasted as useless heat.

The more people learn this, the more they'll want EVs.

  • You have NO IDEA what you're talking about.

Have a look at a few more EV videos on my chanel and tell me again EVs don't wipe the floor with 500 - 600 hp supercars. LOL

  • @h311aston3d

Check out the Audi E-Tron . 313 HP, 3000 LBS torque. Diesel/gasoline engine are REALLY not powerful comared to electric motor lol

  • @h311aston3d

Lol check out the Audi E-tron. 313 HP. 3000 LBS torque.

Gasoline and diesel engine are REALLY less powerfull then electric ones

  • or ... you all pople out there can make yorselff an electric car, 100% electric without charging and solar panels and any that stuff that will require batteries. you could just simply add to any car 4 custum motors on wheels, 1 magnet motor and 1 alternator that could provide enough power to a small town ;) :D >:)).

  • i wonder for people who are in to this certain type of thing if you could change that green plate on the tires for a different color and if you can get different rims.

  • WHO CARES? If you can get the rims you want or not? The fact this could change the world we live in to a non Communist oil dependent country. Would also improve the health of every person who owned one. By not pouting the environment around them. No more cancer or pollution in you water or food chain. Something to think about.

  • some people do i never said i do but some people like to have choices

  • PML Flightlink Limited - in Administration

EM Shires and RW Birchall were appointed as Joint Administrators of PML Flightlink Limited on 28th November 2008 to manage its affairs,

  • More better technology coming soon. A car run while charging using two bat only see YTB Ismael Car

  • fantastic idea

if it does what i think 0 to 100km per hour is possible in under 6 sec, and an economy of 30km to 40km per litre

  • 2015 another donkey and carrot story,I think...I seriously doubt it would really take that long...probably a marketing angle where by that time fuel will be sooo expensive(as if it isn`t now), that even the rich will be begging for an electric car, they will be the only ones to be able to afford buying one.

  • 2015???? should have used some of the bail out money for this instead of AIG

  • Put a small magnet-driven motor inside to generate electricity and a solar-panel roof and you're done. You could then even use your car to supply (supplemental)energy for your home.

  • make it 100% electric.

  • volvo is great at making concept cars. They had a fantastic hybrid concept truck (urban deliveries) in the 1990s and that never went anywhere.

  • 3 cents / mile ? Seriously? I vould sell my mother to be able to drive with that kind of price... LOL

  • great design , much better than that of the prius of toyota .....

and with a other color , it wil look beter

  • GO TOYOTA!

  • car of the future which will never be produced in the future!

  • I think that oil companies will make sure this car never see the light of day.

  • @dailylifetube

Have you ever heard of the middle man in sales. Well even the middle man has overhead expense. Now how would you like to be a middle man in the fuel industry with no overhead!!! The US government has a massive stake in oil profits. Think about it! Do your research and you will see that the government has NO incentive for increased fuel economy. If we could get them off our backs you would see miracles happen overnight.

  • 1. The stupidly put the AC connector on the front - right where all the road slop and salt will hit it.

    2. Here we go again - still have to have that gasoline consumption. Have to keep kissing the butt of the oil companies.

Volvo should be renamed to "backside."

  • How do you change tires?

  • Watch it again!! Within the first 10 seconds they show a bloke putting a normal wheel on.

  • It's not like they have credits for that, they just bought the "in wheel motor" from HydroQuébec, who made it and sold it...

  • What a surprize, a Canadian going on about Hydro wheel motors.

That project was SHELVED 7 years ago and is DEAD. Wheel motors weren't invented in Canada at all, Porsche made them as far back as the early 1900s.

The motors on this Volvo have absolutley nothing to do with HydroQuebec!

  • well said tsport100!

  • Wheel motors have been used for years in factory settings to move conveyor belts, it's not a revolutionary design.

But why did they put the recharge port on the front bumper? Is that the worst possible place to put it? What happens after a minor front end collision and the port is busted up?

Can anyone think of a better place for it or perhaps I am too critical?, because is this really just the most convenient spot? I would design a second auxiliary port inside the trunk or cabin.

  • Common, you were not the first to put the motors in the wheels. not even close...Stop the lies, we all know the technology is and has been here for too long. we are just not allowed own it or use it. Every man for him self. shitty I know.

  • 2915 is too late buddy, As usual we are at another in history where somthing needed to be done earlier but has be put off and off for too long and how its needed now but is unavaible for years he says 2015 i recken 2020, but then we are in a madmax style situation

  • talk about eco friendly

  • But haven't Diesel Electric trains been doing something similar for 40+ yrs. Good design though.

  • Diesel Locomotives do use electric traction motors but they don't have a battery system so when they regenerate they just burn the braking power off throw a resistor bank as heat.

This Volvo can reuse the energy from braking over and over again to reduce costs and extend milage to as much as double compared to no-regen.

  • And it may take a huge natural catastrophe, global warming, ecological collapse to shake the world business/governments [taxes/profits] into allowing "FREE" power source to replace Big Oil. The tech is out to provide in unit power generation without fuel of any kind. The higher they drive the price of oil the sooner people will be fed up with it and make the switch. DONT GET LEFT BEHIND. [I'm sick of breathing diesel from all the trucks too].

  • four hi torque direct driver motor in the wheel?

  • Thanks for these vids, tsport. Too many people posting vids of useless "voodoo science" that's supposed to solve the energy crisis, but is a scam.

This Volvo approach blows away the Toyota Prius, which is far too complicated. The spokesman was right when he talked of flexibility.

This is the sort of think I wish I could say that I'd designed.

  • it just brilliant...

but what about the cooling system?

there is noo such things or what?

  • Heat = waisted energy. Electric motors run so efficiently they often only need mild air cooling.

I have a 1.5kw 3 phase AC motor downstairs that when running at full load doesn't even get warm to the touch.

Heat = waisted energy, that's why an ICE is so hot food can be cooked on it and if it lost all it's coolant it would seize up within minutes.

  • This motor most probably will require water cooling. I'd estimate each motor to be about10kW

  • sorry i meant 20kW

  • You have no idea what you're talking about!! The motor is ment to be 40kw. The motor in the tzero and X1 as feartured in quite a few videos on my channel is 165kw and is Air cooled. If it's good enough at that power level, air cooling will work fine for a 40kw wheel motor, at worse they can run wheel fans.

  • Hydro-Québec built a concept car with motor wheels, almost 10 years ago, so It's not a new concept. The Hydro-Québec project "mysteriously" disappeared and all the research were stopped. This remind me of the AVRO Arrow. Another canadian made project who got cancelled with all the brilliant ideas stolen.

  • It's not a new concept all right, the Lohner-Porsche System was unveiled in 1898 which was a 4 wheel motor battery EV. 300 of them were actually sold up till 1906. There is still a web site for Hydro-Quebec but no sign of any actual test vehicle. Wheel motors are definitely the way to go for EVs.

  • If this was any other car company I would think your right. But the way volvo screws people is they constantly talk about how much mileage you can put on it, and they are pretty much right, but it doesn't matter because the car rots away so quickly!

  • 3rd'ed. there appears to have been more concept electric cars produced than commercial electric cars.

  • Building pure battery electric EVs is not in the best interests of motor companies.

Electric motors are too durable, i.e millions of miles before they need rewinding. That would slowly put car manufacturers out of business compared to their current business model were cars "wear out" in 300,000kms and they're all too ready and willing to sell you a replacement.

This is perhaps why they're talking about leasing batteries, it's the only way they'll keep making money after an EV is sold!

  • 2015 is a tip off. Either the technology is not ready or it is smoke.

  • See my other videos, those particular wheel motors are all smoke.

  • This is NOT the car of the future! Any car that uses an internal combustion engine is using ancient technology that's about 15% efficient. Sure, if you run it only on batteries, you don't have to waste 85% of your fuel trying to run it on the engine, but you're still wasting electricity hauling around that engine that's not even running!

  • It is stupid!!

Remove the 150kg of ICE and the car instantly has more range. Once they start to sell these series hybrids with wheel motors, inc the VOLT (AND why are NONE of them diesel??) drivers will start to ask the same question, "Why do I have to lug around this dead-weight when I can drive 100km+ without it even turning on"??? There should at least be an option to delete the ICE and put more batteries in instead.

  • Or even the option to fit the car with a generator you can take out and replace with batteries if you're not going too far.

  • Because after you drive 100km on the battery then you need a ton of time to FULLY recharge the battery again.

This works while still capable of being used with all current refueling stations, and who wants to be the guy in the middle of a thousand mile stretch of highway with a dead battery?

Its a matter of range. if you can get 1000 miles on a tank of gas why would you want no engine where you can only get 200? Its not actual numbers but you get the idea.

  • Come on, how often do you drive 1000 miles non-stop? It's cheaper and faster to fly anywhere over 500 miles away!

Something like 80% of drivers do 40 miles or less daily, that requires only about 6kw/h of electricity in an EV (costs about $0.60) Carting around 1000 miles worth of range when you only need 40 mile range is like having a car capable of doing 200 mph, useless over capacity.

  • they can put in LiPo batteries in the "engine compartment" and install a modern charging model and they will get a charge time of 15min as the lowest and 1h at the longest.

the range of a care like that would be over 65Km, and there is not many ppl that goes ovet 65Km in one sitting...

  • 'Talk about supppressed technology...

  • Great but, why 2015 delivery? Now is when we need this car.
