wish i could get all the cars from these songs together and drive one of each for every day left in my life (maybe i'll make it to 200-lol...) - whatever happened to real music and au-to-mo-biles ?!?!
What a great song! did this ever chart? I wish all music was like this. i could listen to this all day. I used to listen to doo wop, Buddy holly, Elvis, and 1950s ans 1960s music when i was a little kid in the 1990s. REAL oldies. This is the stuff i miss that i wished they would still play on the radio. i love this channel because it has so much obscure %0s and early 60s music. Definately the best channel on youtube for sure!
These are The Arcades on the Johnson label, Teddy March on lead. The flip of "My Love" is the great uptempo song "Fine Little Girl." Great group. I saw them sing in Brooklyn around 1960 or so at JHS 263 one night. If I recall, I guy named "Red" sang bass. The Arcades were signed with the "Baby Oh Baby" Shells around the same time. In fact, The Shells sang "Fine Little Girl" on their super acapella album. Oh, and "My Love" is one of my favorite doowop songs.
Wow! It's great to see my father's song getting so much love! His name was Theodore "Teddy" Marsh, and he wrote this song for my mother when he was seventeen, and needless to say, they married in 1960 and stayed married until he passed in 1999. As for the backing vocals, I'm pretty sure he did not record them alone.
Great song, great group!! But, what is the name of the group: is it the Arcades or the Five Arcades? Who is the lead singer?? What a voice!! Thanks for sharing this song!
No connection to the Dave antrel group This was on Johnson, a New york label. Flip of this (fine little girl) is a solid uptempo; making this one of my favorite two siders.
fantastic doo wop [thankyou doktorsung for sharing all this; for all us devoted & die hard follower's] it will live on; great to see the younger ones listening to it
I think the Arcades were off the Johnson label out off N.Y.,which featured the Shells..If you listen closely ,you can tell the back up are different voices...DZ from the Bean
Yeah it's said "The Arcades" just were a single guy doing all the voices by himself... so this is "The FIVE Arcades", i only missed to label the song correctly...
not the 5 arcades you are thinking of!!!! your talking about Dr.Dave Antrell who put out some records in the early 70's trying to pass a record off (for fun) as a missing doowop legend on the Satco record label
called "Ruby Lee" backed by Macolms Boogie" "hoping you'll fall in love" it Dave and Nelson Pigford doing all the group parts on diff tracks ... .. other records later that were just as good "forever in love" by Little Flaytus and the Dream-airs believe
I've got those two Five Arcades records on Satco. Both are excellent in my view. I also really like the flip of 'Hoping You'll Fall In Love' - 'Heaven's One Desire'. Well worth a listen if you like that '54-'55 R'n'B sound.
@rocknroll1955 Sounds like Pete Antrell in the 1990s who did the same with "Heavens for Real" by the Storytellers and "Play a Love Song" by Val Poliuto & The Jaguars.. :)
@TNFlightNurse heavons for real , storytellers , and most of the stuff on the "classic artists" label , were written by Dr,Dave Antrell who most likley sang , wrote , played piano on most of those 1980's 1990's recordings....................so his influence is on many of those tunes !!! good ear !!!! ERIK
@rocknroll1955 Yes, I remember Dave doing his thing in the 70s, releasing his, "Long-lost hits"... I'd love to have a studio today with no equipment that was manufactured after 1965 to record a couple of presses.
@TNFlightNurse yea , that would be great !!! my claim to fame was bootlegging the $5000 "Frankie my eyes are on you " Little Iris culmer and The Majestics on Marlin record label only pressed 200 copies ,180 yellow label and 20 white label ........................................shame Dr. Dave died so young what a talented man
@rocknroll1955 I've got those 5 Arcades records by Dave Antrell. Although not the 'real thing', I still really like them. Another record I believe is circulating (being passed off as a 50s record) is the Vic Gallon record "I'm Gone" (a rockabilly number). A friend of mine, a well known collector, came to the same conclusion independently, but I've never heard it discussed elsewhere. There's just something about it that don't smell right!

I really miss Dr. Dave- (drugs) but God bless him-- he's not on lead here- in background. Must be Nelson Pigford.
