Jody been watching you for awhile. I am now starting to learn scratch tig run off my lincoln gxt. I am in the other life you talk about :) I am doing this for fun and so I can introduce my kids to a real skill. I have to learn it first... so your instruction will effect two generations. Thanks
Man, you are "friggin" awesome! The amount of welding knowledge you possess, with the god-given ability to articulate it, mixed with an honest sense of humor, makes you the ultimate instructor of this trade. I could listen to you all day. I feel like we should be paying you for your time. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
Last bit of Internet harassment, that method of scratch starting with a low current and then going to the full current is called 'lift tig'.
Not a lot of this matters at all for most guys. It's really for people who do commercial welding so they can do it around machinery controls without causing faults. E.g. imagine you're at an airport and manage to crash some critical bit of safety gear by welding next to it with HF on. People will be angry. :P
Hi champ, just one question what is the last toggle switch on the right of machine next to the spot-on spot-off switch for??? the one with the tig or stick HF switch it has marks of = or -.
Its the only thing I have not worked out on my AC/DC Pulse tig welder.
@fullboostturbo1 I've not used the Everlast, but I believe that's the switch for selecting the mode you want to start welding by.
It used to always be scratch start, which mean possibly contaminating the tungsten. Then HF came along to start the torch off the work. Then people realised that in some environment (industrially / commercially), the HF interferers with local computer equipment (robotics etc). So a switch was added to go back to scratch if you want.
@fullboostturbo1 There are also a few sets that will allow you to scratch start the electrode, to avoid HF electrical noise, but the scratch current is low, so the electrode is less prone to contaminating.
Hey, ive got a question. In reference to A powermaster 256 aka PP256, when US & DS are set to zero, do start & end amps play any role with 2 or 4T. I would imagine not, & that in that senario the main amperage control is the boss.....?
Good basis for learing what all those knobs were for. Can't never understand it in reading the manuals. Thanks for guys like you and a few others.Keep it up,I can always learn something.
i was built for this! i am self taught by guys like you. I have 3 kids who i will pass all of this onto one day. Thanks so much for your time! You are someone to look up to i can tell. Keep it up. Well be watching.
Great information, you answered alot of unanswered questions for me. Thank you for taking the time to make these clips. Can you please think about doing a set of videos showing how to weld different metals ie, steel, alloy, stainless.Think and thin.
I've got a big torch, and I like it...a lot. But...if you're stisfied with a small torch, be my guest.
