  • bit props to the dude at 3:54 for jumpin much higher than all those other fucks. i'd be going fucking nuts too

  • everyone should quit only focusing on layne...... he's not the only person in the band yeah he's dead but people die every day no reason for there to be so many comments about him being on drugs and what not on every single AIC video

  • Layne no murió, sigue vivo en el corazón de nosotros los gruncheros !!!!

  • i was a fifteen year old grunger when all this shit went down. I ignored AIC as the NKOTB of grunge but am just now having my AIC phase at age 33. Guess i was too young to shoot dope back then.

  • love this song, miss layne badly i listen to aic everyday for past few weeks :(

  • I really enjoy the 'doo doo' part. :P

  • sucks seeing layne in this bad shape

  • ... that bass beat, is so much better than rough sex ...

  • I get chills just listening to his voice...I'll always love Layne!

  • i wish people would stop using alice in chains and nirvana in the same comment. amazing performance never the less.

  • listen to this song again again again again and again

and i hate it when people write paragraphs of texts on youtube comments

  • RIP Layne - however his physical state deteriotated his voice always remained so powerful. Such a shame he passed away - I'm convinced he would have gone on making great music. Mad Season's work was brilliant too and really underrated.

  • i very much miss the 90's

  • @LARGANATION We all miss 90's, man.

  • Your an ignorant ass. Do you have any idea how hard it is? He was sick all the time and suffered everyday during his final years. Its not that he didn't want to quit, he couldn't! Don't comment if you don't know what your talking about! Hope he's finally at peace!

  • layne looks like a statue lol

  • @andbanned very well said

  • Layne lied to that dude

  • To get clean is what Layne wanted, but not what he needed. There's a difference.

  • everytime i saw sean nowadays i wondered why he cut his hair, i thought he did it after layne died and they stopped playing, but damn even in the late 90's

  • he was getting too weak to stand and do performances. If you compare his performances in 1991 to 1993 there's a noticeable difference in his energy and volume. He struggled to carry notes here. I don't understand why they didn't keep him away from the thing that was killing him.

  • @WunderDoob They couldn't keep him away from heroin. The truth of the matter is that he didn't want to quit, and that's why he kept doing it. If he wanted to fix himself he would have done it, but obviously he didn't want to get clean.

No matter how much the members of AiC wanted him to get clean it all fell on Layne.

You can't fix yourself for others, you have to do it for yourself.

  • drugs have single-handedly taken away some of the greatest people and minds that were ever to be on earth... RIP: Many...

  • @Darthanarchus1 You can't blame drugs for taking away great people, shit, would you really know who Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, even Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley or Hunter S Thompson were if they didn't do the dope, heroine, cocaine etc that gave them/contributed to the experiences which lead to the brilliant material they created?

Try blaming an imperfect world, unsuitable for beautiful minds to prosper.

  • See you later Layne

  • YEAH LAYNE, show then how it's done man, we miss you !!!!

  • NIRVANA

    ALICE IN CHAINS

    PEARL JAM

    SILVERCHAIR

    (Y)

  • "Possibly Layne's last show after "Unplugged" " Anyone with creditable knowledge know if that statement is true?

  • @TheFrenziedGamer Theres a bunch of videos from the same concert that say Layne's last show, so I tend to believe them. Doesn't mean it's true though. God Am is one of them, and I love hat performance. Only life video of it on Youtube I think

  • @TheFrenziedGamer-Pretty positive that his last show was July 3, 1996 in Kansas City, Missouri. There is some decent live footage if you type in "alice in chains live 1996" including most of the concert. He did about three shows on their last tour with Kiss and was pretty sick that year leading them to cancel the tour. His voice is weaker in these shows but pulls some great vocals off regardless. You'll notice he doesn't move from the mic in these last shows often except to quench his thirst

  • layne looks so fucking cool in this, he had a really good fashion sense when he tried, he just didnt try that often, its like who gives a fuck, THEY FUCKING ROCK

  • Layne Thomas Staley you were the most f**ng amazing singer ever, we miss you every single day

  • i do not like the new singer !!

  • i farted and it stinks, lets see some thumbs up for that.

  • 2:43 To The End Is Fuckin Epic.

  • they fucking own it every time.

  • awesome

  • whoever says layne's vocals deteriorated towards the end of his career clearly are proven wrong in this video

  • we did hang out right? yeah yeah i love laynes look after he said that.

  • Holy blue hell, that guitar tone is heavy!

  • i have to thank who ever put "R.I.P Layne" up at the top

  • Comment removed

  • ur a dumbass she died in 96 he died in 02 quit acting like you know him personally faggot

  • Comment removed

  • i know nothing about true love and addiction? your a complete and total douchebag loser. get a life buddy, ive been addicted to opiates for 8 years your a faggot

  • Comment removed

  • you said i know NOTHING about addiction, then badger me when i say im an addict like im bragging once again your a complete and total douchebag, and your seven year old i feel sorry for having such a piece of shit parent, ur kid should be put in foster care

  • ..you sound proud of that (addiction)

  • What a magical voice! No wonder I don't enjoy any music produced after mid 90's.

  • Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great performance from AIC! Long Live Layne!

  • Comment removed

  • what were they doing on unplugged

  • wow never seen this before awesome

  • anyone know what layne was saying at the beginning here when he was replying to the guy before the song started? My speakers suck.

  • Hey let them do it again...hey your said you were my friend

  • There's a thing called 'methadone clinics'. No withdrawals with methadone maintenence. That's what he needed. He lived in the heroin capital Seattle. You think he WOULD have known. NO EXCUSES.

  • My mom O.D'd on methadone.

She's no longer living. Methadone just happens to be a much more addictive drug than heroin. I don't recommend it.

  • @lifeanddeath234 I know... been there, that was a long time ago. It's pure poison/shit/fucked up bad.

  • @leadzhead Methadone sucks! I've been on methadone TWICE! Once was to get off opiates and the second time was for pain maintenance(several surgeries on my right hip). Both times ended with me in rehab. It's a shame Layne isn't with us anymore. I really wish that guy could've found what it was that made him want to hit the self destruct button like he did.

  • i wish my speakers weren't so shitty at work, i'd like to here what layne replied with after that intro.

  • go on with your bad mthrfkn self jerry (still miss layne ) please get bak to camden nj

  • when u r that far gone, you need to be kidnapped.Has nothing about willpower at that point.Anyone that is or has struggled with heavy opiate use knows the physical anguish, and the suicidal thoughts of going without that 2nd or 3rd day.

  • layne look cute here!

  • i wish i could say yeeaa like layne could

  • 1:36-1:39 ROCKSTAR MOVE

  • wtf. every band that was ever good or worth listening to has either broken up or their singer has died. in my opinion there are very few bands left. TOOL my personal fav.

    R.I.P LAYNE/KURT

  • sad that he just gave up so much after demri died.n so much to say, taking a different approach in the fight against drugs. hes the first reason that i tried to quit dope. who wants to die like he did

  • haha that was funny as shit i thought it was gonna be someone really mad them

  • Why you slap me in the face.. oww... I didn´t say it was okay, noo..

  • What puzzles me is, the rest of the band all seem like pretty healthy dudes, so was any of them saying to Layne "dude, you look like rubbish" and trying to get him some help??

Such a shame, as Layne was an amazing vocalist in an amazing band. AIC forever!!

  • Jerry did it all the time. but I guess it wasnt enough.

  • You can't help someone unless they want to help themselves. Mike Inez thought, many times, about going to Layne's condo and kicking in the door and kidnapping him, but never did. Layne didn't want to end his life that way and had many failed rehab attempts. He just didn't have the willpower to quit heroin and crack.

  • No one wants to die from drugs. Active drug addiction is the lonliest place to be. I've been there myself. It's not about willpower either. You can't just do it through willpower alone. I think after Layne lost Demri he pretty much lost all hope. It's such a shame because he was such a great singer and no doubt a great dude. His spirit still lives on though. I listen to AIC just about everyday in some form.

  • I believe that was sean kinney who said that not mike

  • I believe you could be right. I'd have to read about it some more to confirm, though.

  • @SalandFindles he probably should've, it's not the best method, but i've seen it work.

  • As much as I wish someone had saved him, there was a point of no return though... the drugs had taken their toll on his body, to which he probably never would've recovered from.

I know an alcoholic who died from liver complications... i.e. cirrhosis, liver cancer, hep c.... sure she could've quit drinking, but it was already too late.

I wish layne could've been saved before it was too late, which prob would've been sometime in the late 90s.

  • Yeah, '96 would have been the perfect year for him to take rehab seriously.

  • alice forever... RIP LAYNE

  • the issue of which of the 4 bands is the best is like 18-19 years old.... i don't think there really is an answer, every band was real different and great in their own way .

  • there's no point in arguing which band is the best. all the 4 bands are amazing, just enjoy their music.

  • i dont know dude AIC has far superior musicianship than nirvana did. AIC is a powerhouse of songwriting genius. i give nirvana credit for their good songs but they had a number of just terrible songs. im glad the burden of the grunge name fell on nirvana cause i prefer AIC to stay solicited to listeners who know something about good music. nirvana is kiddy grunge. AIC is is far too dark for the youth.

    LAYNE STANLEY IS GODSMACK

  • I like how to the guitar sound in this vid and the cameraman is a genius. great vid

  • Layne looks like he's made of tissue paper and he might break if you touch him. So sad that we lost him so young!

  • yea, like he had a lot more left in him. HAHA

  • que cada uno escuche lo que quiere y listo.. todo es musica y en ningun lado esta escrito que el que escuche slipknot no puede escuchar a britney spears...

    pupe

    LA JOYA

  • "NIRVANA VS AIC" Why would anyone want 2 argue who was the better band? They both had great intentions for the future of music. I listen 2 those 2 bands more than any other out their. If i ever get old, i will still b headbanging to these last bad ass white boys. They both bring so much 2 the table. Stop comparing 2 different people. Its all preference anyway. They were both the best. Its a F*CKING DRAW. This is music people. Ur suppose 2 listen, not judge.

  • Couldn't have said it much better myself. <3

  • Fuck yeah!!! I totally agree with you!

is better to have 2 amazing groups to listen than just one...who cares who's best, both rocked my socks off ...and that's the point in music right?.... long live to ROCK!!!

  • @TheSeattlegreen i agree!

  • @TheSeattlegreen Def. dude before all i listen was Nirvana from In Utero to Bleach and all thee unrealsed demos and still love Nirvana to this day but then i listne to alice in chains unplugged and thats what got me into these guys THEY ARE FUCKIGN INCREDIABLE!!! an di love all grunge music and the whole alternative rock scene its awesome and both bands Nirvana and AIC are awesome hard to say whos better i mean i would say Nirvana would be the better band (Commercially) and Alice In Chains

  • @TheSeattlegreen would be the better band (In Music Terms)

  • you cant copare beteen cobain and staley i agree 2 different styles,i think cobain blew his vocal chords out

  • one of the greatest bands to play live

  • Layne sang about what killed him in the end. what a shame.

  • poor layne :1 ddrugs really fucked him up... but hes an amazing singer

  • i'm huge aic fan, and i still dont know exactly when layne's last show was? this it? cool if it is! oh, guys, stop the staley-cobain yapping, you will never get anywhere, trust me..aicfan

  • his final live appearance was on July 3 1996 in Kansas City Missouri, it`s not this one, but you can find it on youtube

  • at least he is immortalized, none of you will be...

  • did this guy bail ? yep

  • f layne

  • uh what??

  • f layne stands for fantastic layne

  • Layne will always be the best grunge voice

  • You can't compare Cobain with Staley. They have way too different voices. Cobain didn't even sing... It's like James Hetfield.. He will always be one of the best voices of Metal but he can't sing too well... Staley can really sing, I mean technically speaking

  • yea i guess...

  • What? "Cobain didn't even sing"? So who the fuck was the singer? I must agree little bit tho, Staley was better technically, but it's not like Cobain didn't know how to sing.

  • of course I'm talking about singing technique, Cobain did sing, but perhaps he didn't technically sing. That's what I meant

  • i get what you mean cobain was the "frontman" but was far of from being a great "singer" like say bruce dickinson or rob hallford but cobain was great..... but so was layne

  • Cobain couldnt hit any high notes. His baritone was a loud/winy/raspy yell.

Staley's baritone went from snarl to scream and also had amazing harmonies between himself and cantrell. CoBAIN had absolutly no harmonie. 2 totally diffrent styles

  • Both totally kickass fuckin bands though. It's too bad music sucks recently, hopefully rock picks it up again soon.

  • whatever dude cobains voice kicked ass go listen to your lame hair bands (pre emo). hisvoice had more passion than anything vience neil ever did. and layne stanley kicked cornhole too. kurts voice held with the obligatorial furiousity in midscream. plus, hair "metal" sucks of course u hate nirvana they killed everything u love,(horsecock)

  • Lets not forget the vibrato from hell that Layne had.

  • Comment removed

  • he looks and sounds thin...but on laynes worst day he is still the best

  • hez definately rough here...

  • well mr tv host guy, the reason you never got that phone call is because you are a crying douche bag.

(this audio preview option is freakin too funny)

  • He seems so frail there, hard to see him like that

  • good song

  • one tight ass band! LAYNE SOUNDS FANTASTIC.. HE HAD AN AMAZING VOICE!

  • weak ass crowd

  • This is hard to watch... he's so skinny.

  • he´s sad

  • Drugs def. had a grip on him here... when his lady-friend died, it sent him over the edge & into seclusion...

  • yes I know

    just so fucking tragic

  • Amazing band, amazing singer, to be able to perform so well in the shape he was in, wow! sad...

  • I LOVE YOU

  • he looka likeh man.

  • bad ass

  • Perfect hair !

  • I was there in the front. RIP Lane.

  • Where? O:! exactly.

  • layne staley..

  • Even he was sick, layne was still having a powerful and beautiful voice.

  • layne doesn't sound the same he had alot of enengy. luv his hair.

  • Again again... I listened it

  • Listening to his music and his hauntingly melodic voice whenever you were down was kind of a stress reliever. Its like you knew he was there and that he could relate to what you were feeling.

  • Yeah, i know what you mean.

  • The whining dork at the beginning of this video (an "actor" by the name of Max Perlich") looks and sounds like a real turd.

I love Layne's halfhearted reply of "We'll exchange numbers later ... if we want" and Perlich's pleading "But we did hang out though, right?" Layne's facial expression at the :34 to :35 second mark sums it all up. Fookin' great. I LOVE IT! Hope they smacked him around a bit backstage after that horrendous introduction by Perlich.

  • Correction:

"Layne's facial expression at the :34 to :35 second mark sums it all up."

    Should read as:

"Layne's facial expression at the :31 to :32 second mark sums it all up."

  • the guy who talks in the beginning is definately somewhat retarded.

  • ive heard layne used to make art for his nephew oscar, i believe it was anime. i cant see layne drawing anime but hey its a possibility. i know layne was an artist too, he did make the sun logo.

  • i miss layne so much....i wish i could talk 2 him for 3 min.....and AIC will never write another good song....not with this lenny kravitz wanna be Duvall...

  • You're right "no bands like this anymore. " That's fuckin right !

  • loved this band from day one. they have a sound all there own . there music is timeless

. music today has no soul.

    no bands like this anymore.

  • Layne is a enigma. He was too great a person and a voice to leave us so early. Why does this shit happen? We need him and Freddy Mercury to return!!

  • he looks good considering his condition

  • love AIC original.....college memories

  • My God, look what the heroin did to him. He's so skinny and his voice sounds so tired and weak there....

    Rest in fucking peace man.

  • what a gritty riff

  • I have looked EVERYWHERE FOR THIS!!! I watched it live the first time when I was like 15 and have never seen it since!!! WOW!! This is truely a Gem. I remember Saturday night special had Garbage one week, Green Day doing Geek Stink Breath and of course AIC. So sad to see how weak his vocals were at this point...

  • when was this concert?

  • The show I recorded it off of was called Saturday Night Special on FOX. It debuted on April 1, 1996 but only lasted until May 18, 1996. They had 5 or 6 episodes and it was cancelled. Not sure what episode AIC was on, but it had to be close to the April 10, 1996 Unplugged show due to the Pink hair.

  • R.I.P Forever Layne. U will certainly never be forgotten god of rock.

  • the drummer is one of my favs. he's god in the song no excuses.

  • Layne Staley R.I.P

  • fingerless gloves , pink hair , brown leather jacket , tie & wearing sunglasses indoors. only layne could make it look this cool lol he was the fucking man!!

  • ah...point taken

still layne was the man regardless of his junk abuse

  • it saddens me how weak layne is. great performance and all but layne just looks so pale...man he still had so much talent to produce and he just ran out of time cause of fuckin heroin
