This album deeply touched me and I think it's my favorite of all time. I like the dreamy and powerful feeling of this music and the story. Everything on this album is perfect and hearing it brings me back to a long-lost time of my life that is very dear.
Just because synth was not considered good or important does not lessen the great power of this music; it still stands as a testament to Progressive rock and roll & personally I LOVE Klaus Schulze on this album. I feel the producer's comments here are peremptory & possibly a bit "anti-synth" for anyone that really understands what Klaus did & it's in-your-face quality. I love it !
this guitar solo by pat thrall on the live album steals the show...nearly perfect...1976...unreal...feel almost always eclipses shred...goodnight everybody...
Paul Buckmaster wrote the string arrangement for the live London Symphony studio recording around Pat's solo. We did Go live in Paris as well and then the Group toured US with album going top 40 Billboard. Was quite an historic recording with Steve, Stomu and Michael - in addition Al Di Meola (Return to Forever, Chick Corea) , Klaus Schuilze (Tangerine Dream), among others. Great to see the music still being appreciated 35-years later. Peace and keep tapping your foot to the music. Cheers. -Lou-
@loutones Michael Tsarion is the worlds premier conspiracy researcher/lecturer/author. Dr. Bill Deagle, Leo Zagami, Jordan Maxwell and Alexandre Dumas pere are highly informative as well. p.s. Melting Euphoria is similar to Ozric Tentacles and Gong.
@loutones This song was ahead of its time. Pat Thrall couldn't have been that old at the time he played this solo. The amount of talent and sophistication on this album is certainly respectable yet what is amazing is that they all shined on this album in the beginning of their careers. Timeless!
Pat told me that he was basically just playing along with the track and afterward he saw Winwood and Stomu in the control room jumping around with excitement over what he had just played. Of course, you can hear how some of the string parts were arranged around what Pat played.
Hi Guys — I am the co-executive producer of these albums and put the original agreement together with Chris Blackwell the president of Island records while negotiating a separate agreement for the Automatic Man band contract which I co-produced and co-wrote with the band. Yes that is Pat Thrall the lead git from Automatic Man (not Al Di Meola) playing the amazing solo here on the GO project.
@loutones One of the greatest shows ever captured on tape and one I treasured for a long time on vinyl before the cd finally came out.I could meet and see DiMeola here in Chile back in 93 with a monster show and then with Ponty and Clarke. What a rare but miraculous concoction of talents. How come I believed it was Dimeola's solo all these years !Lucky you to have worked with these people and, yes, this is the music, still after all these years.Quality shines and sounds till today.
This is one of those groups that never got the recognition they deserved. I tell you that there was nothing but excellent music on all three of their albums.
I like heavy stuff, like sabbath, but prog is in my blood, and i can always turn to stuff like this...just beautiful and sends shivers down my spine.....!!!
My re-appraisal of the GO sessions today is that both studio & live albums were spotty-- some brilliant moments alongside some unfortunate dreamy-kozmic synth stuff. But the playing rose to some great heights. Shrieve did some monster drumming and DiMeola played some great guitar. Steve W was at his height on these tunes. And the backup singers were something else. The Live album-- at least the side with "Crossing" and "Leo"-- is the best of the bunch.
@Westcoasttony Thx for the link email you sent the other day...just got around to reading it. will definately try tracking down the two releases. hope they're available on CD. have friends who'd like to hear them again too....w/o all the scratches from listening to them on vinyl all these years.
@Westcoasttony Al sounds a lot like he does on Elegant Gypsy but the music is more ethereal than his choppy style. Too bad that each side is only about 15 minutes long if I'm not mistaken. I could be wrong about that--I lost 1300 LPs in a fire in '86 so I haven't heard it since then, but I thought Man of Leo was 14 minutes long and took up the whole side. If you got it, don't be shy about uploading....that goes for anyone else out there, too! Definately a rare gem!!!
Raven Records Melbourne Australia have The 3 Go albums on a 2CD set and Floating Music & Man From The East on a single CD; bless their re-issueing hearts.
@tubermind. i have 3 or 4 copies of this but they're quite used. still, they work and i'm sure i could spare a copy if you really want one. @rosharris thanx for posting this special gem
Director Stomo Yamashta gathered and directed a group of talented musicians, including Steve Winwood for this concept album. It's fantastic. Mine was lent and never returned; I only have it on tape.
do you remember that on that album there was also Klaus Schulze (keyboards) and Al di Meola on guitar. Staggering just the thought of putting them together..
YES -- well, I remember di Meola; I'd forgotten about the other guy -- don't have the album anymore to refer to -- it still haunts me! And of course, I remember where I was (and how old I was) when I first heard it...you?
Un magnifique et grand album. Dommage qu'il soit demeuré confidentiel en France. Me concernant, il reste attaché à bien des souvenirs. J'étais alors jeune, bercé d'illusions... La vie est passée... Merci
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have not heard this for decades-literally. I bought this album when it first came out and in the 80's all my albums were stolen. This album is timeless....
one of the climax songs on a masterpeace of an album. thanx for posting. i have both the studio and live version but it's good to hear it on utube. makes me wanna hear the whole thing. same with "when the eagle flies" and other concept works

Well, I still own the old vinyl, and my memories about attending the making of this and a few other songs over in London (I came with the Schulze-crew). . .only, I wonder, what happened to the writer of the songs, Michael Quartermain? Does anyone know?
Because he also wrote a long story into my book. . .
Thanks for the post... I was looking about Stomu Yamashta´s albums for years in the web, but was nothing... Now I can see how many people appreciate this works, I was not so rare...

wow. this music has become so much a part of my life for so long. glad to find some others like it too. masterpeace music. five minutes is only an intro to the work of genius. quite an intro, the climax song. yes the "live" version is also awesome.
OMG - This was always my absolute fav album and never could find the CD to replace it. Spent tons of time under the headphones listening to this - Steve Winwood and Al DiMeola. You have made me very happy!! Thank you for posting!
I still have the original album which I bought when it was released. The music stll sounds as good as when it was new. I never forgot it all these years. I wish they would release this on cd!Nice posting!
The greatest bargain I had in my entire life! I bought this album off of the sale rack in 1979 for 2 bucks and have not stopped playing it in almost 30 years. I have litteraly worn the groves off the vinyl. Thanks for the post. Kung-Fu warriors in outer space....What a story....What music!
It reminds me to keep on pushing and never give up and makes me feel great every time I hear it.
Exact same story for me and my buddies. Bargain rack at local record store. $1 or 2. Just saw my friends for first time in 15 yrs and he brought me a cd he burned from the album for me. Try Automatic Man.
This album remains so widely unknown, but in my opinion was outstanding. Winwood's best vocal effort ever and should serve to demonstrate his vocal prowess; quite the voice. I'd love to see more of "Go" put up here as well!
