@757mech1: I believe Larry Potterfield at Midway USA suggests the same procedure that DSA does: Use copper jacketed bullets and fire one round at a time for ten rounds, cleaning the barrel after each round. Then, fire two at a time for ten rounds, cleaning after each two rounds. You are actually closing pores in the bore metal that were opened during the cutting and lapping process. This will ensure long barrel life. Hope this helped.
@bigredoneder Hey thanks for that info. There seems to be alot of contervirsey over this issue and I don't know where I stand yet. I guess it won't hurt if I go ahead and do it. It's only my time that is at steak here.. I have a demo I did on my AK-74 if any ones intersted check out my one gun video..
When you buy a new gun do you shoot the barrel break in procedure? I just bought a DPMS Panther .308 and the owners manual say to shoot 10 shots cleaning the barrel after every shot. Then clean after every 10 shoots till you get to 100.
@seanpomerinke I bought a TC icon .243 and out of the box with 100gr winchester whitebox it shoots 3/4 moa some better with good ammo. cost me $600. diden't break it in but diden't hold good for 5 shots than it was grouping. thompsen center make cheap back up rifles. wicked group never shot past 300 yards and can only hold a 2" inch group at 300yrd. whats 243ai? the bullet manfuacter? woulden't mind trying the ammo out you used if it's not to expense.
@757mech1. I just bought a DPMS LR .308 24 inch Bull last august. I did the full DPMS break in procedure and am shooting 3/4 moa, my brother loved the gun and bought his owne. He did not do the break in. I mounted and sighted in a scope for him a few weeks ago and got two three shot groups where all three holes touched. (100 yd) only shot 15 rds Same ammo 150 gr winchester Factory. So i dont know if it matters or if he is just lucky cuz his is a tack driver.
