  • great 80s game, nearly 24 years old and hasnt dated obv i know ps3 Graphics are better but u cant knock this

  • What an awesome game this is. The music and gameplay is so tense.

Love the "Go!" shout whenever you emerge from a building.

  • Oh man the NES version doesn't even hold a candle to this. This is really smooth looking.

  • I can remember this game so good. I loved it. It was difficult and not easy as it looks. When he goes in the building to the right side he makes a weird gesture. :-)

    Great sound! Great game!

  • This game has kickass graphics for 1988!

  • I loved this game, but looking back it was so stupid.. Why do you have your dudes (ehh... snipers?) running in the streets right in enemy view? Go around the back you dipshits you're ruining our element of surprise!! Then suddenly we have a helicopter dropping dudes right where they need to be! Also shooting random unidentified people through the windows of a building full of hostages probably isn't the best policework.

  • Go!

  • It's the ancient Rainbow Six

  • A game that is probably based on the Iranian Embassy hostage crisis in England aka Operation Nimrod.

  • Man, I remember playing this game on NES and man did this game suck.

    Oh yes it did. XDDD

Well, Yeah, it ain't as fun or exciting as it seems.

  • I think the NES version is Rescue: The Embassy Mission.

  • @RocMegamanX

    And you would be right.

  • hot club

  • and the terroorists never turn out the lights in the embassy ...i love it!

  • Damn!! this games soundtrack was awsome back in the day. still keep great memories of this game. One of my favourites from the Amiga

  • First person shoot em up in 1988 with outstanding action.

  • @diamantenios

    True!

  • Astonishing memories there

  • Rescue had better music

  • I remember this game with a completely different music... was there an Atari ST version?

  • @PrinzMegahertz there are many versions on many systems each with a different name.

  • This was an amazingly fun game. I played it soooo much. And yes, the music is awesome ;)

  • Man, I loved this game on the Atari 520ST.

  • my first "ego shooter" ^^

  • Amiga have got goood games

  • @Aronas76 because they are not alone eating donuts

  • Heh that's kinda like "cheap" iMuse - e.g. the extra drums fade in when you get out of cover... pretty nifty

  • Badass fucking music!

  • fuck i had this on the nes !!! didnt know amiga was better !! :o

  • ah the good old days when titles where just made up of one words like "Hostages"

  • dont like this type of game at all.

It's "some pictures & some music with some things to do with a joystick occasionally".

    style over substance.

    cinemaware being the worst offender.

  • 7:50

made with MonsterMazeEngine3 (tm) middleware platform.

  • This game looks awesome!

  • @KoivuTheHab this game is from the year 1988 ;) i played it and i was cool!!!

  • Holy... I have loved the Rescue theme since I was a kid... Only to find out it was Hostages on the C64 and Amiga with a BETTER soundtrack!

  • This is better than in Nes but cant be compared mutch since amiga was mutch more powerful

  • I still play this game on an emulator from time to time :)

  • Me and my Pa lent this game to one of his friends. Me being 7 at the time, didn't think I'd never get it back. It was too good. Couldn't play it worth a crap, but I played it every week (when we still had it, hahaha). I hope that guy took good care of it.

  • The grandfather of Counter-Strike! ;)

I loved this game as a kid, played it like crazy. Really regret throwing away my Amiga in moments like these. :(

  • Heh. I doubt I would touch this game today, but back then I beat it like 50 times (in easy mode).

  • I love the music in the stealth part, though I think it sounds better on the NES.

  • cool music

  • Mother of Counter Strike. Could look at the cool intro with the car and brake windows with the sniper over and over again... those were the days! :oD

  • It would've been ironic for YouTube to say "file not found" on this video. :P

  • The funny thing is that if you wait too long to jump trhough the window you get shot! :)

  • Notice how the volume gets toned downed when in hiding and how it gets louder when running.

  • Rainbow Six 2D ancestor :)

  • A short game, but very rewarding :)

  • sweet, my brother hade this for the Amiga ST, I still know where it is :3

  • Das war sooo ein geiles Spiel.. :)

  • Had this for the ST - fine memories of this game

  • That ending pic is AWESOME :D

  • Such a nice game. I think the music scores for this game are awsome!

  • Ah, sweet childhood memories! Awesome background music and this game totally kicks ass out of every modern ego-shooter!

  • awesome game and awesome music

  • uno dei giochi amiga + skifosi!

  • You put all 3 of ur snipers in the same spot???

  • Be fortunate that you can do that in this game, especially when the choice of mission and difficulty makes it hard for you to deploy all three snipers to seperate locations.

  • I used to play this game almost every day at this time.

Nowadays i think it´s the "grandfather" of the rainbow six-series ^^

  • i have this on the NES (which is named as Rescue: The Embassy Mission), and if not for this game, Rainbow Six wouldn't have existed

  • You gotta admit the NES version looks butchered compared to this one though :/

  • true. the NES had somewhat inferior capabilities than the Commodore Amiga had at the time.

  • alcatraz was pure ownage :)

Hostages was a game quickly done, though you could play it an extra 5 min if you played at max difficulty and put a bit of "method" to play safe; like swiping a floor, blocking the stairs, bring a 2nd guy in, block an isolated room because there would be too many enemies hopping around, bring the 3rd guy in from another way etc. Fun when you'd try to do several things like that, but you go around it pretty quickly and move on to another game

  • I like how this game has some really nice gameplay change! sniping in the early days... cool!

  • Lol, der Scharfschütze hat gleich mal voll die erste Geisel gemurkst :D

  • wtf 1988 with such good music sound???

AWESOME! I used to play alcatraz on my pc... on of my first pc game.

  • i was adictiv to this game^^

  • Unbelievable - this game to see over 20 yers later. I love this game - the sound was very cool to this time - awesome - i enjoy!

  • Yeah! That was a good game!! I like it!

  • Musical score ... one of the hottest action tunes ever in a computer game!

  • @Daniel4646 Yes, I agree!

  • heh, music in 2min is like drexciya or glass domain :P and the game is from 1988 O_O

  • the music is so fuckin cool.

  • Played this on the NES as a kid, where it was called Rescue: The Embassy Mission. I still remember that tune after all these years. Definitnely one of the most underappreciated pieces of retro videogame music around. Didn't know an amiga version of the game existed, and to know that there's a sequel, Alcatraz, is a nice surprise. Can't wait to check that out, too.

  • that rocked so much!

  • thx for this upload! great game!

  • Bad arse game, Bad arse video, Bad arse everything. 5/5 + favs. GO.

  • Badass music

  • One of my favorite games of the 80's :).

  • same as man, I played this all the time, was wicked ;P

  • i wasted so much time on this game...i totally sucked at it too. lol.

Thanks for posting this, this brings back fond memories...

  • Oh yeah, didnt read the comment before hand whoops! lol

  • This game rocks the house! Wasn't there a spiritual sequal or an actual sequal to it?

  • Oh so many memories of sucking at this game XD

    Awesome to see it uploaded!

  • Awesome!!!

It's weird that I can't remember finishing this game, but that song at the end was 100% familiar.

  • Maybe you had it as a .mod

  • Well... I don't get it. You are supposed to be the police (or at least part of it) but have to evade spotlights. Did the terrorits gather infront of the house and watch if someone wants to sneak in?! It's just... weird.

  • aah that explains why alcatraz is so similar... damn i thought someone ripped off the game, but if u say that alcatraz is the sequel :P

  • overrun by 3 guys

  • LOL!! Hostages was awesome. I still visit "The Hot Club," refer to myself by codenames and sneak around my local town center at night!

  • Wasn't this released on the NES as Rescue: The Embassy Mission?

  • yeah, I think so.

  • this game looks cool!
