I've listened to a lot of covers of this piece and I have to say, yours is by far the best, i love the way you slowed it down and made it almost hymn like. Keep up the great work buddy, look forward to hearing more from you. There is so much emotion in your playing, its haunting.
hey man, great job! i see you say you don't listen to the original recordings before playing them, did you listen afterwards? It's interesting how a slower tempo affects the entire mood of the piece!
@EroticVultures I agree the tone changes this creates more a memorial kind of image of the Enterprise to me, maybe of us seeing the Enterprise in a museum with the lights really low? this piece is incredible thankyou!
@DanielBarkleyMusic That's cool. Since I've heard this song numerous times in the movie and absolutely love it, I prefer that original tempo. To me, your version drags a bit. I'm all for slower 'candlelight' versions, but this is just too slow for me. The original's faster tempo goes well with the film because it's more powerful and seems almost joyous. This very slow version is more depressing to me. Still great, don't get me wrong! I'm just commenting on the differences. :)
Nevertheless this is too slow. The original ist slow and "majestically" enough, as it should be. People always think they have to "interpret" everything, but in most cases the original is just how it should be. However, good work ;)
Dude I love this arrangement you have here of this song.... its just so amazing it captures the essence of theme on Piano and I think of what jerry gold smith was going for : )
wow nice play !!

Yes I'm sure Mr Goldsmith is proud of you. I thought it was excellent. This piece is one of the worlds greatest ever.

What a lovely rendition! You've definately managed to recapture the emotion of the melody.

There's something about music that allows us to capture meaning, if only for a moment.
You and Jerry Goldsmith have succeeded in capturing what Star Trek means to me.
Thank you.

Why did you choose to play it so slowly?
eepruls 1 year ago
@eepruls I felt the gentle pace fitted the hymn-like nature of the theme. The tempo marking is simply 'Majestically'.
I also don't generally listen to a film theme recording before I record it on piano, since I don't want to end up parroting another interpretation.

@imjoedad it's mostly from a sheet music compilation of Star Trek themes I got, though I always add my own little touches.
Cheers!

@WolfsOcean This is quite definitely the best piano arrangement of the First Contact theme I've ever heard--and I've heard quite a few.
