Ok bs we will always replace crap with crap. Faith, honesty with yourself goes a long way. Attaining peace of mind is NOT about jesus, krishna or any other imaginary friends. Lose the spiritual perspective. It's poison. Keep the logic. It works without spirituality.
i get the message that some people do not like this cut. i wish i had the original audio edit of the talk to post again with different music or none at all but unfortunately i don't. i'm keeping this version on my channel for those who do like it as is. Others, sorry this is not to your liking, hope you find some other videos on youtube that you like better. (plenty of Ram Dass 'without' any additional music or images to be found on here). Peace
I have a hearing distortion problem and am struggling to hear Ram Dass' words. I wonder if this could be uploaded again without the background sounds as others have also requested? Thanks anyway for sharing with us. Ram Dass is an amazing teacher.
Sorry iamwonderfulable and the others who have asked nicely if able to post without the accompanying musical backdrop, but i no longer have the original audio splice of the Ram Dass talk to be able to repost it without. This was an early experimental video edit. Some have liked with the music. Some have not. The polite feedback for if i bother to make any future videos appreciated.
@nearing2012 I have all the audio splices of Ram Dass- do you know what talk it's from? Is it from Experiments in Truth or Chord of Love, for instance? Let me know so I can reupload this talk without the music. I say this because people turning to this soundtrack are attempting to escape from addiction and pain. They are not trying to feel "tripped out." Regardless, I appreciate your kindness in uploading this. Namaste.
beats299, this was personally edited from a longer 2 part audio i acquired simply called 'Attachment And Addiction' (Don't know if this is from an album of a different title or. If knew i would list it). i appreciate what you're saying as to why some might not like this style of presentation (while others have done - 1,025 likes, 14 dislikes) but this was posted over 3 years ago - i don't still have the materials to re-do it myself now. Hope you find so you can upload without the music
I think the music sort of "labels" the addiction as something "bad", whereas going by the tone of Ram Dass' lecture, he takes a somewhat compassionate and understanding stance on addiction as a coping mechanism rather than as an outright evil/sin.
Alright I like the music as well but the music and Ram Dass doesnt need to be mixed. If I want to hear the music Ill go listen to that but I really want to hear this message by Ram Dass without the music.
Just a personal preference, I don't care for the chanting that Ram Dass does. Yes, I do understand it, I just don't like it. If you can change you mind then DO IT...what's with all the chanting in what isn't even a native tongue?
@DreamingTurtle I see where you're coming from. It comes down to what works for you. If it isn't a native tongue it's probably native to him, all language is just tiny mouth noises, you can create your own as well perhaps one only you understand. But I don't think it's necessary to follow any other spiritual paths but your own, but you will find that there are rules when tunneling down that hole. Maybe those rules are that of genetics, the raw programming and origin vibration of this moment.
guys..just gonna throw this out there. my spiritual practice is going well. i'm meditating, practicing awareness, acceptance, following my breath. but i find two things that are hard to incorporate into my practice, or rather two places where my practice doesn't extend. i masturbate to porn too often. also, i don't fear death, but i do fear aging. i don't want to lose my physical abilities...or mental, or even look old. any words of advice? book recommendations? video recommendations?
@triplights when you fell like masturbating just try to get in public or call someone one the phone. try and get away from the temptation. and if you excercise keep your mind active the effects of aging is reduced. you cant avoid getting old but you can slow the aging process. i am 41 years old and i have been active (mentally and physicaly) all my life and most people tell me i look in my mid 20's. and i have had a heart operation when i was 5 a callopsed lung when 12 and a stroke at 27
@triplights masturbation is great! and with getting old, i find it nice to look at it from the standpoint that it is inevitable and should be appreciated. the attaining of nirvana, i believe, requires us to have experience every angle of the human experience and to have experienced all of the joy and suffering that each of our births have to offer in order to become fully aware of the suffering of the world so that we can in turn understand, apply compassion, and heal the suffering of others!
@triplights look at your masturbation obsession as an experience which has the potential for you to understand others with problems similar and make you feel more connected to them. suffering is so important because it teaches us how to love!
it's ironic that the top comments are from people who pretend to love ram dass and all he teaches while at the same time cursing the person who put this video together.

I love this post and find it very true, however I have to say that the background sound is too high and I missed some important parts of the messages because of that. Thanks nearing 2012.
He makes this seem way to simple. Most addictive people (especially those who are sensitive to surgery products) have a chemical imbalance to Serotonin - 5 hydroxytryptamine (5 -HT). Biochemically derived from trptophan. Itis well know contributor t the feeling f wellness so it is know as the happiness hormone despite it is not a hormone. So it is important to understand this before anyone decides to pursue another form of reaching true happines espcially through spiritual ways.
@ayellowroseforro59 Yes, but this is from the perspective of watching or observing ones thoughts... All the science is a physical manifestation of consciousness. There are a lot of things that are important if you know what I mean... My predicament is that I have really had to work on myself to pull out of a bipolar alcoholic household, hence I've put all my effort into self growth so I feel that I might make some sense here?lol.Hope I helped provide some constructive criticism.
@ppc1989ark Thank you for writing back to me. I am extremely proud of you and I thank you for telling me part of your life's story. Keep up the and don't let go. You are finally there even if you don't feel it. The power and strenght you have is terrific. :-)
OK, I was going to write a disagreement on the end bit about chanting, but I have to agree with Ram Dass! While I believe & apply being effortless, allowing, observing, finding zero point. It has not lessened my chocolate addiction, I must admit I am growing in my awareness & can see the addiction from start to finish when it flares up! I can become effortless & meditate & over come it, but it only returns again & sometimes catches me out, Including a Chant my be the extra bit I've been missing?
Beautiful and intelligent lecture, but who's the asshole who put in the background noise!! what are you trying to do? one can hardly hear what he's talking about, on that note, ram Dass is amazing!!
@murt47 "one can hardly hear what he's talking about" --- yes, it's incredibly frustrating, has anyone found a version of this without a spaceship landing in front of Ram Dass drowning out his words? Why not throw in a jackhammer and just silence him altogether???
hm... i really want to agree with him, and that method of 'breaking the chain' has worked for me as a more benign addict.... but there's seriously chronic addicts out there (some are my friends), and I'm still convinced that they need immediate considerate treatment to what equates to a malignant disease as far as I'm concerned... i'm convinced that there are those who can't 'transcend the illusion of addiction' because to them, it's not an illusion, it's what's killing them.
@BluestarShaman it's a racional fisical speech not a trip, i want to hear and understant the words has the man told them. that music just influenciates the idea. and that is bad, period.
A VERY wise dude though - he sums up drug/alcohol treatments perfectly - that recognising and breaking the train of thought is very important to anyone trying to change a behaviour.
I agree with the guy 100% but I don't think he ever struggled with heroin addiction (or any pain-killer problems). Opiates are great to use as a Human being who want to (or needs to) escape, but it really does anchor you to your physical shell in a way nothing else will - addiction is pure misery and in general puts paid to any hope of attaining a higher level of concious/existence. I would say to experimental kids - stay away from the *hard* (BAD) drugs!
If I am in great pain and take pain killers in order to function, should I feel guilty about it? If I take pain killers and am in great pain but feel guilty about it then I can't see why I should function. If you feel guilty for taking away the pain, you've lost your way.
Thank you, Namaste. I listen to this regularly, such a powerful message. It's such a shame that the spiritual and psychedelic crowds teachings have been subject to such taboo and scorn.
Beautiful, thank you. There is no father in heaven, there is no heaven. There is no separation, only the illusion of seration. There is only One, in infinite manifestations. Do you understand what you are.....?
Fantastic speech. Not so fantastic background noise - VERY distracting. Perhaps you could upload a version without the music? That would be amazing. Peace...
too bad that the background sounds are not background at all. they are too loud and way too distracting. I find this is so typical when people attempt to enhance a speech. sorry for being all crabby about it...but being that I have ADD it is a huge problem form me! i want to learn but instead i am being driven mad! aaaah!
@rafasounds2010 They are a form of meditation music, not annoying at all imo. I think they bring out what he is saying or add a dynamic to the speech.
@rafasounds2010 Oh never mind then. You're right english is retarded. It's tragic that such a flawed language became so popular. I'm sorry you have to use it all the time on the internet.
@TheSchimmi having to use it all the time on the internet is far away from meaning that it is more interesting, beautiful, complete and good sounding to me; at most, having to use it all the time on the internet denotates that its original speakers took it to more places in the world, and thats all. Cheers.
This Ram Dass video really changed my life and had a profound, life changing effect on me.
There was a time not too long ago, I would have become hostile in my words and in many
times in action. Buddhism has shown me a much easier path in life and I have had nothing but positive changes since then. I have also been able to mix faiths and to see the beauty in all.
Your English skills far exceed 70% of the current American publics. :)
@LUVallova this video was so significant to me that I even tried to write down the words. There were a few gaps which I couldnt understand. Thank you for the kind compliment; we should always improve and move forward, that's our mission here. I've realized from tv shows that generally young americans are obviously very fluent in their language, but often demonstrate a kind of unconstat speech and not very grammatically, logically organized.
Ah, good to listen to again :) I tried DMT for the first time with this video playing in the background. I captured the video so i could play it on my computer offline, and it was on repeat. When I gained consciousness and returned from the trip, the video was just starting to repeat and I heard the words "When we were born, we come in to the world" How fitting, I thought :)
Yogi Ram Dass has opened a can of worms. I don't listen to dead words. One action is better than 10 000 words. We have a winter time. So enjoy it, every moment of it. Snow is white and cold. Trees in forests are green. Now, it is a right time for a cup of tea.
The spiritual path is depicted as a maze.. some times you can see the goal, but you twist and turn and get lost. Ram Dass, before his stroke, was a master speaker. I heard him speak in person 5 times.
What's with the audio on this video?????????????? Someone doesn't know what they're doing. I listen to a lot of Ram Dass and can't stand listneing to this crap lol
@TheLotusBlooms I am also a Catholic. The spirit of God is within me, and it is the spirit that effects change. But it cannot do so unless I let it. It is the same as Buddha-nature. The same light that cannot be hidden as a city on a mountain. We should not look just to our Father in Heaven, but within ourselves to his gift that is the spirit that is in the very breath that fills our lungs. The choice to repent is your choice, not your fate. Look then within to the spirit to guide you.
@armtuk One could say looking to heaven and looking within are one and the same. You could also say God and Us are not seperate yet we fight tooth and nail to make that distinction.
@TheLotusBlooms There is no fate or destiny for us to fulfill, no higher purpose, there is just now, and what we choose to do in this moment. Inspiration is dangerous. It brings hope and expectation which are attachments to the future. It is knowledge and experience I seek. There is no curse, just our reality which contains suffering but also the means to end it, from which we can be full of joy. We can chose to make it a burden, or chose to begin the end of suffering, for us and for all.
@VMKinnovations i think whilst it maybe true that a significant portion of trouble that is cause by organized religion, but underlying that, there are more fundamental concepts at work: greed, anger, hate and fear. I don't think it's simply the burden of organized religions themselves as big blind entities. These organizations are run by people just like you and me, each with fears etc. of their own.
at first i didn't like how you had put those sounds in the background, but that got me to ask the question, why i didn't like it? maybe some conditioned underlying necrophobia that i associated with them? good talk, and i like how you edited it.
Great info, thanks. I respect the compliment that polycyx gave , yet often, I personally have difficulty remaining focused on important info with added background sound.
@bobbooty Because it is their mistake if they are becoming more unhappy from the background noise. Read @justthink124 's comment for more explanation

So it is important to understand this before anyone decides to pursue another form of reaching true happines espcially through spiritual ways.
ayellowroseforro59 8 months ago
@ayellowroseforro59 Yes, but this is from the perspective of watching or observing ones thoughts... All the science is a physical manifestation of consciousness. There are a lot of things that are important if you know what I mean... My predicament is that I have really had to work on myself to pull out of a bipolar alcoholic household, hence I've put all my effort into self growth so I feel that I might make some sense here?lol.Hope I helped provide some constructive criticism.

A VERY wise dude though - he sums up drug/alcohol treatments perfectly - that recognising and breaking the train of thought is very important to anyone trying to change a behaviour.
andy7666 9 months ago

@rafasounds2010 Oh never mind then. You're right english is retarded. It's tragic that such a flawed language became so popular. I'm sorry you have to use it all the time on the internet.
TheSchimmi 10 months ago
@TheSchimmi having to use it all the time on the internet is far away from meaning that it is more interesting, beautiful, complete and good sounding to me; at most, having to use it all the time on the internet denotates that its original speakers took it to more places in the world, and thats all. Cheers.

The noises for me, opened my receptors of misery when I was at my lowest low in life.
This prying open of reception finally caused my hateful self to break.
This video enlightened me and changed my path.
It doesn't have the same impact as it did months ago, but new videos I have found
have new effects.
You just may be in a different place in your path of awakening so the music
doesn't resound with your soul.
That's cool. Keep up the discovery.
Much Love.

@rafasounds2010
So...being that we are both in a dedicated pursuit of spirituality,
we still find separation in loving words?
I did not categorize anybody. Reread what I wrote very slowly and carefully.
You ASSUMED that, "...different place in your path of awakening...", meant
I was placing you above or below. The word I used was "different".
EXACTLY what you wrote back in criticism. "People are always different".
I wasn't the one complaining about the music from the beginning.

Your punctuation is excellent as well.
LUVallova 10 months ago

Look then within to the spirit to guide you.
armtuk 1 year ago
@armtuk One could say looking to heaven and looking within are one and the same. You could also say God and Us are not seperate yet we fight tooth and nail to make that distinction.
dingostorm11 1 year ago
@TheLotusBlooms There is no fate or destiny for us to fulfill, no higher purpose, there is just now, and what we choose to do in this moment. Inspiration is dangerous. It brings hope and expectation which are attachments to the future. It is knowledge and experience I seek. There is no curse, just our reality which contains suffering but also the means to end it, from which we can be full of joy. We can chose to make it a burden, or chose to begin the end of suffering, for us and for all.
armtuk 1 year ago
@VMKinnovations i think whilst it maybe true that a significant portion of trouble that is cause by organized religion, but underlying that, there are more fundamental concepts at work: greed, anger, hate and fear. I don't think it's simply the burden of organized religions themselves as big blind entities. These organizations are run by people just like you and me, each with fears etc. of their own.

at first i didn't like how you had put those sounds in the background, but that got me to ask the question, why i didn't like it? maybe some conditioned underlying necrophobia that i associated with them? good talk, and i like how you edited it.
