It's free and fun and for my fiends and friends of groovy pop music from the late 60s and early 70s. We play The 1910 Fruitgum Company just about every week! Find it on iTunes or Google "echo valley podcast". Thanks for posting this fun video!
I, Floyd Marcus the original drummer played with another original, Jeckell from 2001-2008. Now I mostly write, produce and pitch songs. The band is still around with the only original member, Jeckell.
I was born in 1968...when I was about three or four years old, my aunt gave us (me and my two brothers) a large stack of 45s with some of the greatest classics ever recorded; yummy yummy; Hear Comes the Judge and another one that we listened to over and over and over..."STICKY STICKY." Just the other day, my brother emailed me and wrote, "Hey...you remember this song." It was STICKY STICKY on youtube. I couldn't believe it! Man that song takes me back...I love it!!
Oh no they're back, just when I thought it was safe to use youtube again! Just pullin it guys, I'm a great fan. Indian Giver is my favorite. Fruit Gum forever!!!!!
Letting all fans know. the following is from a New Jersey paper. " The group produced three gold records, starting in 1968 with the first single release "Simon Says," "1-2-3 Red Light" and "Indian Giver." The 1910 Fruitgum Company was reunited in 2001 by the originators of the group, Frank Jeckell, and Mick Mansueto."
Mansueto is not an originator of the group. You can use your imagination as to why this has been added to the band bio.
I remember seeing 1910 FRUITGUM COMPANY playing on th blacktop schoolyard during th annual St Theresa RC Church Bazaar in Linden, NJ, across from th old Edgar Rd Diner on 1-9...back in, daaang!, it must of been around 1966? They were just a bunch of neighbourhood kids playing their music then...but went on to become big time & successful in th music industry!
Whatever happened to that guy Bruce who plays tambourine in several videos of 1910 Fruitgum TV appearances? No offense to present company, but that guy was off the hook!
Gee! What a clever comment. I guess some people who have nothing else to do (they don't have lives, are losers, have no talent and no knowledge pop history or what they criticize), sit on their computer all day and make these comments. Never mind the fact that they'll probably never make it to the age of the people they criticize. When you have 3 gold records let me know. Oh wait! I probably won't live another 100 years to find out.
I got talent and a life, and I know some things about Bubblegum Music and The 1910 Fruitgum Company! I think they're wonderful! Always thoughtso since i was 10! I'm 441/2 now. So for Christmas I get 3 records by The 1910 fruitgum Company Actually 2 Cds and one phonograph album) with a number of their best songs on them -Simon Says, 1 2 3 Red Light, Special Delivery, Indian Giver-well, you know! Plus some of the lesser-known-but-still-as-great songs like The Clock, The Song Song, Lawdy Lawdy,
@spy4863 Hey, the Ramones did a cover of Indian Giver and the Ramones were pretty hip. You think? Bubble gum groups inspired alot of bands whether they like to admit it or not especially the punk bands that came about in the 70's ad 80's.
The Train, Poor Mister Jensen, No Good Annie, Liza, Bubble Gum World-well, you get the idea! So I bring the records to work and listen to them-with my headphones of course, because my boss hates Bubblegum Music! Then I buy myself a big jar of bubblegum, and now I'm hooked on it, chewing until my jaws get sore! I laughed about with my boss, saying that The 1910 Fruitgum Company got me hooked on "bubblegum"! What's even weirder-tonight I went out and bought a party traffic light
I agree. How many of us look & weigh the same as we did 40 years ago?
These people are icons. We see beauty & talent regardless of their age. We appreciate them so much for the good music, positive influence and the wonderful memories we asscoaite with their songs.
Great song and video from the days when you could hear ANY song ONCE on the radio and remember the melody !Did not know they were still performing.. excellent! .Backup singers and organ take you back to the original vinyl!
Say what you will about bubblegum music but think it of this way: One of the great groups of the late 70's-80's was the Cars-- a very good, hip re-invention of bubblegum.
during the late seventies we were contracted with super K to become the 1910 fruitgum co. and we had a brass section in our group. there was never any brass in any of the albums
In 1968 this group had a great brass section, and they played for the late John Gotty at a great night club in Queens, New York. I know because I was there, along with Mark and the guys!
In fact, the group performed for Richard Nixon at the White House. That is a fact that this group, can not take any credit towards.
But they did alot of television, especially for Cousin Bruce Morrow at WWOR-TV in New York City.
Actually the last studio album, which included "The Train", did have horns. Two guys from the bands town of Linden, N.J. were included. Jerry Roth (sax) and Ralph Cohen (trumpet).
It was a totally different incarnation of the band with Mark Gutkowski included.
@stratbnder yeah and they had 3 hits ! any of the thousands of bands wish they could say the same, I just wish I could be a shadow who could say I had 3 major hits!!
You can believe whatever you want to believe. But the truth is that me, Frank Jeckell, Pat Karwin, and Steve Mortkowitz were the first 4 to form the band, with Mark (the lead singer of the FGC) being added last. It was my uncle Sol Marcus who took us into NYC to make the demo that got us the contract with Kasenetz and Katz.
Floyd Marcus
Original founding member of the 1910 Fruitgum Company
hey Floyd. back in the latter 60's I had lunch with the group. To me it was amazing. to you I was probably annoying. In Melbourne Fla. fruitgum was playing with the Association ( if I am not mistakin) there was something about this particuler day that might have been different from any other gig you ever did. Remember??
First, we never play with The Association. In fact, Jim Yester (Along Comes Mary) vocalist lives near me. Did you have lunch with us because of some capacity you were involved in or just happened to be there? Sometimes on the road things went by like the scenery. I'd need more to go on.
um it was all the original singer, and a bunch of studio musicians, thats why the line up changed between simon says and 123 red light, but that doesn't mean the music wasn't good, but as far as "original" members I don't think ahyone but the main guy could actually claim that mantle
This is one of those late '60s bands that was all over the radio and had to have made a great subconcious musical impression on me and everyone else, but I never knew the band members names or anything about them.
One of the original guys was named Bruce Shay. His real name is Ploushay, and he lived on my block in Elizabeth New Jersey. I often wonder what happened to him. I wrote to the group on their website, to try and find out what happened to him, but they never returned my e-mail.
LOL!!! As young boys in the 1960s we were too "macho" to admit we liked bubblegum music. Even so, the 1910 Fruitgum Co. did put out some great tunes and they were a class act.
This is where I met Mike from the Ohio Express, we are great freinds now! We had a falling out and if he reads this I hope we can get to be ferinds again! I love you very much,Mike! PLease, let's be freinds again!!
No, the Ohio Express were also part of the K&K stable of artists who had bubblegum hits like Yummy, Yummy. They were all from Ohio, we were all from Linden, NJ. We recently performed at Ron Dante's Bubblegum Bonanza show in Las Vegas with the current Ohio Express band, led by Tim Corwin, the original drummer.
