For me this video clip represents an interesting twist in American identity. I may be wrong, but I have always thought that Americans have very strong national identity. Of course, local identities (like New Yorker) were always present, but to the world the American identity always came first. But not any more. One could not express it more clearly: "... we are from America, but this is not New York City or the Windy City, or Sin City ...", rounded off with "imported from Detroit".

@fmylonas1 If you take a look at manufacturing in the U.S. today, most of it is in "the south". GM in Louisiana and Mississippi, Hyundai in Alabama, Mercedes in Alabama, Kia in Georgia, Toyota in Texas, VW in Tennessee. The motor city lost it to the south in my opinion.
For those who "don't get this commercial" or its appeal - for many of us from Michigan (not necessarily from Detroit), our frusturations and determinations seem to come through in this commercial. The fact that Michigan has gone through such a steep decline - one not seen by any other state in the Union during the modern era - adds something you don't see often to this commercial. I won't be buying a Chrysler (or any car) anytime soon, but I absolutely love the ad.
