Some ppl claim that running your CO2 through your filter intake will damage the filter impeller in the long run. How long have you been using this method to diffuse the CO2? Has it affected your filter in anyway?
Wow Severums gold and green in a planted tank?? how did you manage that?? As soon as I added 2 golds to my tank the ate all my plant to the root even the jave fern. I had a huge nubia's plant atleast a 1/4 inch thick at at the bottom and they nibbetd it to the root and as soon as it try's to grow they just eat it like crazy. Whats up with that??.
All you have to do it get the tough plants they dont wanna eat like val and swords etc and you can have the best of both worlds. they might have a little nibble here and there but thats just their nature
how do you vacuum the gravel with the plant roots and the little grassy plants and whatnot? what are the best, hardiest plants for my tank? i really need them to be bushy because of the fry. where did you get those rocks from? (btw i 4got i would also like to have swordtails in my tank, i also don't think i mention my molly and platy will be in there to... if your even interested lmao)your tank is very beautiful and i LOVE your aquascaping! it looks amazing and your fish look great!!! =]
when your plants are established they are rooted in good, they wont get pulled out by gravel, i kinda just go around them anyway u dont need 2 get every square centimetre particularly around plants as they use up those nutrients.I got the rocks 4 a landscape yard they r just the plainest "bush rocks" they had they are like $100 a tonne so they are cheap. The hardiest plants ive had r the sword plants along with all types of Val but i think they best thing 2 do is see what works 4 u,trial & error.
he , i love the look of your tank! within a few months i'm getting a 6'x18"x20" 425 litre tank and hope to have guppies, neons, angels, dwarf gourai, rummynose tetras and black kuhlie loaches. i need lots of hiding places for the neons to hide from the angels and i would really like a natural, planted tank and something like yours would be soooo great! i have a few Q's: i will have a light, but do i HAVE to add CO2 for the plants? see my next post please, i've run out of room =P
Hey, you dont have to use CO2 although a home made system is really easy to make. Obviously the more co2 there is in the water the more building blocks the pants have to be happy. The thing that will bush up your plants the most is using the right spectrum lighting do they arent trying to reach for the surface all the time to get light.
The lighting cost about $300, i got it on ebay, it does the job but the more you spend the more reliable they will be as i have problems from time to time with them and pbviously have to fix them myself as there isnt much waranty.
Very nice tank! I'm going ot be inthe next month or so setting up a 75g that'll be planted for my non-paired off angels and my African Ropes. I hope it'll look at least close to this one:) Very nice!
gravel vaccum and i guess to a degree the plants get nutrients from it all anyway, what ive learnt is that you need the right nutrients and alot of light, im also running co2, you would be amazed at how stable the water ph and nutrient levels are just because the plants are in there, i wouldnt go any other way, you should give it another go.
hi mate, im using an external 1500l/hour with 4 media stages, seems to work pretty well, iove just added a power head which has a small filter in it and that seems to clean u an small bit of debris in the water
amazing tank sir. looks incredibly natural. i was curious to know if your gouramis fight at all? i have 2 gold dwarfs, male and female. and two neon gouramis that i just picked up, both males. they seem to have minor battles here and there. any suggestions besides changing tanks?
The Gourami's used to chase each other round a bit but as i have sound with all fish that have these small battles they do get over it. What you will find though is if a male is doing it to a female he is trying to get her to breed so if thats happening things are going very well in the tank :)
I have propogated alot of them from just a few plants and spread them out, i have ludwigia, banana lily, amazon sword plant, regular val, dwarf corkscrew val, stellata, wysteria, ive just added some small crypts and that bunch of grassy stuff at the front i dont know what thats called but its not doing that well it seems to need more light, i got about 2 watts per gallon, im orderinging some more light tubes to take it up to about 4 so things should start picking up closer to the bottom.

how do you control the level of detritus that can get underneath plants. I'd love to have a planted tank, but my first attempts failed.
