Asian blades are so win.....I'd love to grab a few English or Roman, but when the time comes I always go Asian, haha. They're all works of art. From Japan and China to Korean blades....they're literally works of art. When they're not in use, they look amazing on a wall and add class, instead of a garbage wall-hanger.
One thing I've noticed on your swords (and no where else on Jin-shi), your new blade has less 'pommel' showing. Know what I mean? The old one has like a half inch more pommel that would give you access to the mekugi pin. Is that a problem for you?
I collect Katana exclusively, but I always wanted a quality Chinese blade. I've been look at Jin-Shi for over a year and have had my eye on the HanDynasty Jian as well. I'm just trying to decide on Mono or Folded.....I'd love my only Chinese blade to be folded, but you know the deal, i'd hate to scratch it.....That's my only decision, now that I decided to buy one. Blargh
@ Swordsage, do you know where I can get one of those Changdao? I first saw them in age of empires III, they are very long blades used as an anti cav weapon... They look really really good and I don't know where to get one. In fact, just finding a good pic on google is hard :(
Ah, good old changdao. They're awesome, aren't they?
Yeah, they can be a bit hard to find, but not to hard. These days, people tend to call them miaodao, (or miao dao), even though that's a bit of a misnomer. Search for miaodao, and I'm sure you\ll find what you're looking for. :) Just make sure if you're buying one to get the longer changdao variety, and not the actual republican era blades that are the actual miaodao. You'll be able to tell the difference.
Tai and Bagua tend to use longer swords with their styles, and from what I've seen, they're pretty much two-handers, though I've seen them used with one hand for the most part. Mantis uses two handed styles though, complete with a two handed grip. Chi family tong bei also uses a two handed style.
Here are a few examples:
watch?v=lOXPZLHpn8M (a Mantis form)
watch?v=XKxH2R_xWXo (a Tong Bei form)
watch?v=jM71tGZ_Y6Q (a bagua form. I LOVE this one)
Awesome, I've been looking for vids featuring Chinese two-handed/ war-swords. Can be a pain to navigate this sight for two-handed sword, I tend to mostly get Monster Hunter videos :(. Thanks for the info.
When your scabbert begins to get loose you can fixed that with some carefully applied superglue and sanding it down with some 400 or 600 grit sandpaper. If it's really bad then you can saturate some tissue paper with super glue and then sand that down to fit.
Good to see the replacement showed up and is everything + more of the first.
You might want to point out again that this sword was custom built to your specs (round handle and near flush hand guard) because that's not everyone's style.

Maybe it handles better due to better balance in the handle.
