Obama, for example, also is not in favor of gay marriage and has stated as such many times, yet you never hear him criticized for his views in this area. Being an independent who doesn't favor either party, I just don't get the double standard.
It is the GOP who has historically been socially conservative. After all, it is them who went ballistic when Obama repealed DADT, for example.
