  • I bet this play still haunts Lee.

  • god damnit courtney, we could have won that series - if a couple of plays go orlando's way it's 3-1 magic instead of the other way around

  • Life in Orlando hasn't been the same since...

  • it wasnt the greatest of passes to lee. he had to bring it back up where he could of just layed it in. ALTHOUGH ITS GREAT TO HAVE IN AT HOUSTON

  • @dictator96 that being said, it's the fucking NBA Finals and he's getting paid millions to make that LAYUP.

  • The shot that would have changed the series...

  • Stop arguing about goaltending, goaltending is not the issue. Basket interference is the issue.

  • @pandasweater lmao sore loser that didint change the shot it is not basket interference idiot stop making excsues the magic suck celtics wolda been facing us that year if kg didint hurt his knee

    Lakers- 4

    Magic - 1

  • @2pacisthebest90 yYou don't know what basket interference is. Please don't be a referee.

  • It's not goaltending PEOPLE! It's BASKET INTERFERENCE.

The field goal attempt should have counted and the Magic should have won. I swear, some people may play basketball all their lives but still don't know shit about the game. Probably they played it wrong their entire lives. Go read a rule book or something. Same thing with LeBron's crab dribble.

Goaltending is if you alter the path of a ball by touching it when the ball is ON THE WAY DOWN.

    Once more.

    BASKET INTERFERENCE.

  • @pandasweater I must add that it is defensive basket interference. If it was offensive basket interference, the shot would not have counted. But, obviously Gasol touched the rim and he is playing defense on that possession which makes it defensive basket interference.

  • lol

  • I remember this. If he would have made this shot the Magic could have a ring right now. Nevertheless that was the worst finals I've ever seen extremely boring.

  • Shoulda gone for the box.

    Nice attempt though.

  • Lee is a stud. Actually watch him play a lot of games and you'll see. jumps out the gym, great D, steals/blocks, assists.

hope he can find a team to stick with..... way underrated.

  • @BP2U is it possible for him to go to chicago?

  • the analyst had a good point it was a goaltend

  • im pretty sick of people saying that lee sucks because of this. that shot was harder then it looks. .06 of a second u would just fling it up. thats hard...

  • At 0:12 and 0:13 you can clearly see Pau's hand being bent backward by the rim while the ball is above the cylinder. There's no doubt about that. The question is if that is goaltending.

  • @rossdigitalfire No goaltend, Pau never changed the ball's flight path. Even if Pau didnt touch the rim, Lee wouldve still missed it.

  • @z4ng3tsu1ch1g0 I see your logic on how's its not goaltending. But by definition of rules, that is goaltending. You can't touch the rim while someone is making a shot attempt. You don't have to change the ball's flight path for it to be goaltending

  • @z4ng3tsu1ch1g0 That's not the point.

  • now you gotta admit all that pressure on you to win the game thats hard. and why does he have a rip hamilton mask?

  • @upyours537

thats not a rip hamilton mask those are the masks the team gives you when you have a nose injury, which is usually a recent broken nose that has underwent surgery

  • @upyours537 its not just for rip hamiltion to win cuz if your nose breaks or you have an injury on your face they make you wear a mask.

  • This is gonna haunt every Magic fan for years to come.

  • pau distracted him

  • Hedo threw a lil much. and Lee ain't Iverson in the all-star game back in the days.

  • @royray217 So? The net did not effect the outcome of the shot. The ball bounced off the rim.

  • lee messed up he missed a very important layup but hes still a great player

  • watchin dis courtney lee really should have tryed 2 created contact would have been a foul and 2 freethrows or even an and1

  • technically, it is goaltending because gasol hit the rim while the ball still had a chance to go in. however, he didnt cause SIGNIFICANT movement, and it was the NBA finals, so the officials just wont make the call

  • What the fuck was the announcer talking about with goal-tending? The ball already hit the rim and was coming way down when Howard tried to put the ball back. What a dumbass.

  • @PrUnEJuIcEtHeThIrD no u idiot they meant how pau kinda hit or shaked the rim alil wen the ball was bout the hit the rim which is a interferance of sum sort whcih can be called goal tending in sum ways

  • @PrUnEJuIcEtHeThIrD uh the goal tend was on gasol not dwight

  • @allprog Yeah but Gasol never actually touched the ball. You're allowed to jump however you like.

  • @PrUnEJuIcEtHeThIrD you must not know much about basketball, its ok to admit it. you dont have to touch the ball to be goal tending , if you touch the rim at all or cause the goal to move and any way before the ball goes through , which gasol did , its a goal tend.If you watch carefully gasol pushes the goal upward causing the ball to bounce wide

  • @allprog He never touched the rim maybe you need to clear your eyes out. It's OK to admit that you're half blind. Gasol swatted the net, and this was right as the ball hit the backboard. By the time the ball fell towards the rim, Gasol was far out of the picture. Maybe we need a goaltending rule that if you disturb the air around the basket it's goaltending too?

Stop making bullshit excuses for what was an obvious missed-shot by Lee. That's real basketball. Not whether the net moved.

  • @PrUnEJuIcEtHeThIrD 13 seconds look at his right hand ball handnt hit the square yet... case closed

  • @allprog Right, so at 13 seconds the ball hadn't even hit the square yet, Gasol's hands only brushed the net, and therefore there is no problem. Continue making excuses for Courtney Lee's own failure to make a lay-up. Case closed.

  • @PrUnEJuIcEtHeThIrD u r completely blind.. watch that 100 times first before saying anything

  • thanks for posting this video,it actually makes me sleep great at nights.courtney lee a true LAKER hero

  • It looked like Kobe was trying to hold him to.

  • Why would it be a rookie they had Nelson but i dont a care Lakers won #15 i love it Go Lakers get that repeat

  • even if magic win this no way the lakers would have lost the series that year kobe was on a mission

  • @FREEDOM23100 they wouldve lost

  • @chb21fly lol i dont fink so look wats happening 2 boston now

  • @FREEDOM23100 ya but boston is not as strong as they were last year or two years ago

  • @chb21fly actually dey might b better den 08 as a whole team , dey beat orlando magic , d wade heat, and cleveland cavs dont tell me dere not as strong or as good

  • @FREEDOM23100 they are older kg doesnt play that well their lucky that nate robinson and big baby are helpin out

  • @chb21fly so wat doesnt mean dere not good , dey beat cavs and magic so u cant use dat as an excuse its not good enuff , yh kg not as good but there team as a whole is better den 08 so doesnt matter if kgs contribution is low because the help is better much better

  • @FREEDOM23100 true

  • CHOKE

  • what a rookie.

  • even though gasol did do basket interference, lakers still would have won because in the 1st quarter of this game dwight howard goaltended gasol when dwight put his hand UNDER the rim and there was no call.... so its even...

  • "Is that goal tending?", "NO"...lmao

  • the magic should have won, gasol touched the rim with his hand while trying to block , that counts as goaltending

  • kinda like when howard goaltended gasols dunk by putting his whole hand through the rim in this same game. . . karma

  • @DendeLee . dude, you and I both know that the nba will never call that, especially on a finals game for the win, when it was something that did not alter the shot at all.

  • @DendeLee goal tending and Kobe's bitch ass held him be4 the Howard screen.. but of course they want Kobe to win his ring -.-

  • i wanna see lee in a magic jersey back next season

  • The City of Boston has celebrated 17 Basketball Titles....Los Angeles...10

So don't say the LOS ANGELES lakers are 2 behind Boston...LOL Try 7 behind Boston..The City Of Los Angeles isn't close to all the titles Boston has won

    End of Story

  • your dumb

  • It's You're NOT Your

    LOL

  • it should be you're dumb, not your.

    Don't be late for school

  • your cool

  • Don't call people dumb when you don't have any understanding of grade two grammar.

  • your smart

  • Wow. Courtney Lee misses the easiest shot in the world and he had more time to knock the shot down than Fisher. Talk about catch the ball, turnaround fadeaway jumpshot, releases the ball and sinks the shot all in 0.4 sec vs. a simple alley-oop pass with 0.6 sec.

  • You're talking about getting the ball to fall in the basket over Gasol while heading out of bounds. All Fisher had to do was shoot very quickly.

  • Well Lee knew he had a chance and he did not whine. The point is that Lee had an easier play than Fisher... and more time than Fisher.

  • Fisher wasn't in the air moving out of bounds. It was simply catch and release. Lee's play was get in the air, have Turkoglu make a difficult pass, and drop the ball over Gasol. Kobe trying to hold Lee up didn't make things easier , either.

  • hahahahahahah they didnt win

  • the magic would had alot more confidence if he would have hit this

  • This was a great fuckin play... About the only smart thing van gundy did in the whole series lol

  • stupid... 2 mtred child can do it but courtney cant!

  • wutz the point of arguin here, lakers already champions

  • not knocking on lee because that was an extremely difficult angle and shot but if they won that game, series wouldve been so different. lakers 09 champs!

  • dont judge lee on this, he is great, the nets will love him for years to come

  • Whether or not it was goaltending (very debatable cause although Pao technically did hit the rim, its hard to tell how much it effected the layup) calling a goaltending in that situation would have been so hard to do for a ref. It was the fairest way to move the game on. Courtney should def not be blamed. He has a long nba career ahead of him and maybe he be an all-star in the future

  • that was definitely basket interference.

  • ? Of who?

  • gasol

  • you mean at 0.13.... but that wasnt faul... he didnt even touch the ball, so ain't interference

  • @ :13 pau caused the backboard to move by touching the rim. notice how the advertisement lights in the background move/shift. @ :14/15 the lights shift again when the ball hits the rim; and again when howard dunks. my work is done here. thank you.

    nba rule no. 11-basketball interference-goaltending

    Section I-A Player Shall Not:

    i. Vibrate the rim or backboard so as to cause the ball to make an unnatural bounce.

  • ah ok, anyway he would failed even if gasol didnt' touch.... and then i remember that even in a Finals series (i think game 2) Howard blocked with goaltending Gasol (he putted an Hand in the rim) so i think it's 1 and 1 XD

  • The ball's flight path didnt change and the refs saw that. he touched it, but only slightly and it did not do anything to the ball. Period. U want to know what's a real goaltend? What Dwight Howard did to Pau Gasol's shot. he literraly put his arm through the rim to block a shot. That's a real goaltend. That shot was going in anyway

  • Definition of Goaltending from the NBA, in the most relevant cases: the disturb the rim while the ball is using it as its lower base or to cause the rim to unnaturally vibrate.

Case 1: when Gasol touched the rim, the ball was not on it.

Case 2: watch again, Gasol's hand ran over the bottom of the rim. It did not vibrate AT ALL.

I do not see how this could possibly be goaltending.

  • Courtney Lee handled the loss like a stand up player. Hopefully he'll have a long and successful career in New Jersey.

  • why are we blaming lee, hedo should have passed the ball better more near the basket so lee could at least dunk the ball or tip it in.

  • a pass like that isnt easy... you shouldnt be blaming anyone, with .6 left you dont have much of a chance anyway, that was great execution but just a very tough situation to score

  • true. but fisher had it tougher. talk about catching the ball, turnaround fadeaway, relaeases the ball and nails nothin but net all in 0.4 sec. Lee had an easier chance but he blew it.

  • theres a reason fishers shot is so glorious... cause things like that almost never happen

  • as rare as an unassisted triple play in baseball. You dont get many chances like that

  • u got to be kidding me Pau hit the rim with his WHOLE HAND

  • Phil Jackson even admitted Pau should have been called for basket interference. Funny, innit.

  • AHHAHAHAHAH WE WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP

  • dude! I'm a laker fan but that was really a ball interference! Phil Jackson admitted it before game 3!

  • I'd guess he doesn't wqant people talking about how Lee had his arm grabbed by Kobe. Of course, the entire damn game was full of rough play and horrible calls.

  • agree! well! better luck for Orlando next year!

  • phil jackson called this goaltending, how?

  • did this miss cost Orlando the series? - surely they would have won in 5 games if he made this shot.

  • There should have been an offensive foul called on Rashard Lewis for a moving screen on Kobe.

  • SHUT UP DAWG!!!

  • no violation called?? but gasol touches the rim?! i think thats a violation..

  • damn

  • anywayz, i was upset just like he was because I think that he is the most sexiest thing on EARTH

  • it should have been a goal tending call. it's a basket interference. Pau gasol can't move any part of the rim or net and he did so its a violation. orl. should have won

  • I think that was a good try. But jackson said that was suppose to be a goaltending. He said they could've loss the game. Well i really don't know if it's a basket interference. Well atleast it's now 2-1.

  • Anybody who blames Lee for that loss should never step foot on a basketball court

  • you know if you would have used your left hand Lee you might have made it

  • It was goaltending. Phil Jackson admitted it before Game 3.

  • goal tending like shit.

  • The biggest reason people will say regular season games don't always matter is because since the season is so long, sometimes you can't prepare fully for each opponent. Take for example the year where the Cavs beat the Spurs in the regular season, but lost to them in the finals, that is a prime example of it. This isn't the case with LA-BOS, cause both team know each of it's strengths and weaknesses, so regular season games do matter in regards to these two teams.

  • No it doesn't lol

Boston beat LA in a best of seven lol Because the lakers beat the twice in the REGULAR SEASON with Bynum doesn't erase last years finals

Boston beat them when it counted

what has changed this year ? lakers added Ariza, Bynum and the Celts lost Possey

But Perkins and Big Baby are much improved as is Rondo

Boston would beat them again with KG

  • Are you serious. How old are you. You can't be older then 15 to have this argument. LA and the C's have both scouted each other well enough to know each other's strengths and weaknesses. In addition, given that both team were fighting for the best, of course the two teams are going to give their all. What, you're saying a Laker team that started Radmanovic and had no Bynum or Ariza is the same team. Or a Boston team that had Posey, is now as good or better without him. Do you understand matchups

  • Bynum and Ariza LMAO Why do you act like these are hall of famers lol Bynum is a work in progress...Ariza is an upgrade but Sasha and farmar this year are a far cry from last year..Walton, Sasha, Farmar suck...Fisher is beyond overrated and can't defend...why don't you ever mention this ?? the lakers bench isn't good

Perkins, Big Baby and Rondo all improved from last year...Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen would beat the lakers again in a best of seven

  • I'm not making them out to be Hall of Famers, but you're the one making them out to be insignificant pieces to the Lakers. Bynum provides the Lakers with an inside presence that they sorely lacked last year against the C's. Do understand that Pau was less effecitive against the C's because he was guarded by 280 pound Perkins. Now instead you have KG on him, while a good defender, doesn't pose the same physical disadvantage as Perkins does.

  • In addition, since KG now has to guard Pau, he can't help on Kobe like he was last year because Pau is more of a threat then LO. See how putting 'Drew into the lineup changes the advantages the C's had last year. Now KG can't roam off onto Kobe, or else Pau will make him pay. In regards to Pierce, yes he would still get his points, but the difference between Ariza and Vlad is huge. One plays defense and the other doesn't. He would easily make it tougher on Pierce then Vlad did last year.

  • Perkins can guard Gasol...If perkins can guard dwight howard(which he did a great job in the orlando series) he can guard Gasol with ease...Perkins would have the best of him under the rim..he's wayy stronger

  • Yes, Perkins can guard Pau, and he can bother him, nice we agree on that, but with a healthy Bynum, he no longer guards Pau. KG would have to guard Pau, so now KG can't play the kind of help defense he was playing last year. Any of this registering. Really I could care less, the C's are irrelevant at the moment and either you're too young to understand basketball or just trying to bait.

  • What are you basing this off? Last year? They had two different teams last year, what don't you understand. Posey and Brown were huge for the C's. And while Davis has improved, against the length of the Lakers, he wouldn't be so successful. House is a nice spark plug, if he is hitting shots, otherwise he's useless. That's there whole bench. The Lakers by comparison get contributions from Brown, Farmar, Walton, Powell, just an overall deeper bench.

  • Posey and Brown LMAO

Pekins is much improved this year...so was Big Baby and Rondo.

Eddie House can bomb 3 pointers coming in cold off the bench in crunch situations

Farmar, Walton, Sasha suck...The lakers bench isnt good lol Bynum is just a foul machine lol you must be kidding me

The bench would'nt make the difference anways..KG, Pierce, Allen, Rondo...those 4 would be the difference

  • Either you're just baiting or you don't understand basketball. What do you prove by saying "Posey and Brown LMAO". Posey was their best perimeter defensive player and hit timely shots for them. Brown was a veteran who had the size and experience to match up with the Laker's frontline. It doesn't matter if Perkins is improved, who is gonna back him up that will give the Lakers trouble. It won't be Davis he doesn't have the size. Rondo still can't shoot, I already showed you that.

  • You're making statements without having any reasoning behind. The C's only have two players they can consistently count on to be productive off the bench. Whether you think the Laker bench sucks or not is irrelevent, considering they have about 5 guys they can trust to go ahead and give their starters a break. Do you understand that the C's wouldn't have the same advantage with Pierce because Vlad is no longer guarding him. KG wouldn't be to shade Kobe, since he now has to guard Pau.

  • Farmar and Walton contribute ??

    Do they ??

    LMAO

  • This is BS. For Game 1 and Game 2 the league assigned the two best referees for away teams this season, and as soon as the magic get a home game they assign joey crawford the undisputed best referee for the home team. this is unbelievable.

  • are you surprised ??

With the series 2-1 it will still pull tv ratings...If the lakers win and go up 3-0 forget about it lol its only laker fans watching if the series goes 3-0

the NBA loves keeping the home fans happy..Orlando will win 2/3 games in orlando ...It will be 3-2 Lakers with the next two games in LA

Lakers close out in game #6 or 7 for the championship...laker celebrate in LA

  • Kosomosound, again you have to be seriously dumb to blame the Magic loss on one play. I mean really something has to be wrong with your thought process. Sure if you want to simplify why they lost, go ahead and pin it and that, but only an idiot would do that. Had the Magic not turned the ball over 20 times, had Howard performed better etc. maybe they wouldn't have had to come down to a last second shot. But go ahead and tell yourself that you lost because of this call, your bias is really showin

  • Lakers have average point guards..you beat them by attacking them

Orlando needs a big series for Rafer and Nelson...and Reddick...so far they have done nothing..and Rafer is acting like baby since they brought nelson back and he doesn't want to share playing time

  • Actually it was an illegal screen by lewis. you don't have to be stationary when you set a pick, but you cannot be moving laterally. if you are moving laterally, you have to get your feet flat and set before the offensive player is within one normal step of the defender setting the pick. Rashad lewis' feet are not even flat before contact let alone one step before contact. and he was clearly moving laterally. So if you want to get technical, the correct call was a foul on lewis

  • Players can touch net/rim while ball is in air. its not against any rule. thats what gasol did. vibrate rim? those noob dont unerstand how rules apply in actual basketball. this is what vibrating rim means. ART. 4 . . . Pulls down a movable ring so that it contacts the ball before the ring returns to its original position.

  • This isn't goaltending. Give the Lakers a little credit defensively. 0.6 seconds is not a lot of time to get off the perfect shot. Complaining about incidental contact and touching the backboard is a little ridiculous.

Besides Dwight Howard got away with blatant goaltending earlier in the game versus Pau Gasol. So stop splitting hairs and crying about it.

  • It was goal tending, but Howard did get away with one also so They're even.

  • looks like a foul should've been called on kobe. kobe held on to lee for a second which disrupted lee's path. if you look closely, if kobe had not grabbed lee, the timing of lee's jump would've been perfect, probably would've jumped off 2 feet, but instead because of kobe's foul, he had to jump off one foot, which made is somewhat harder to make the shot

  • we can also argue lewis's illegal moving screen on kobe.

  • Look at Gasol after the shot. He looked at the ref and as if waiting for the call. Too bad for the magic, they were recipient of 4 game winning buzzer beater shots in their past games and they cant finish when they had a chance to do it. Thanks in part to the ref who missed that violation.

  • Clearly, defensive goal tending should have been called. If you'll look closely, gasol didnt just touched the rim, his ring finger and pinky held on the ring causing the whole goal to move. The shot looked like it didnt have a chance to go in, but the ball was clearly above the cylinder when he touched the ring and rules are rules. You are not allowed to that.

  • find me a rule stating that when ball is in air, above the cylinder, u cant touch the net or ring. trust me, u wont find any rule.

Rule only states touching ring/ball while the ball is on the basket.. or touching the ball while ball is above, within cylinder.

  • Rule 11.i Players shall not "vibrate the rim or backboard so as to cause the ball to make an unnatural bounce."

  • Although the shot idn't have a chance to go in minus the "goaltend" so it wasn't goal tending.

  • goaltending on gasol, illegal pick by lewis, kobe thinks he is better than jordan, dwight is overrated all he can do is turn the ball over. this might be the best finals ever.

  • Comment removed

  • "It is legal to touch the ring or the net if the ball is above the ring and not touching the ring, even if the ball is in the imaginary cylinder above the ring."

  • Moving screen committed by Rashard Lewis on Kobe Bryant

  • rofl he is..did not see that

  • It was close but it looked like Lewis had two feet on the ground when making initial contact with Kobe. The missed layup is makes it not matter anyway.

  • One more thing for all those mel gibson conspiracy theorists out there, if that was goal tending, It was not humanly possible to see it at the time the play was made. No way any person in that arena or watching tv besides gasol was aware of goaltending till the replay. I mean hell, I didnot even see the dwight howard goaltending till the replay and that was the most obvious goaltend ever. Seriously, think about it, there is no more blatant goal tend than reaching your hand up through the net

  • It all comes down to consistency. If the refs don't call blatent goaltending on magic, they can't turn around and call a questionable goaltending on Gasol.

  • I agree with what you say. I love Bill, been featured in his mailbag twice.

  • Agreed, Simmons is great. That's no small feat, he must get thousands of emails.

  • To be fair, I have sent him at least 50 emails and only two stuck.

  • lmaoxD i mustve sent him thousands, none have ever been featured

  • Just keep sending them, and one will eventually get featured (im assuming your talking about the mailbag). My two roomates and I send emails to bill all the time, and we have all been featured. So my experience tells me its bound to happen to you if your persistent and you send concise comments that are original yet relevant to stuff he writes about in his column or talks about on the podcast.

  • you have to delete the space between latimes. and after you paste the link

  • If you want to see goaltending go here:

    lakersblog.latimes. com/.a/6a00d8341c506253ef011570d4185b970b-300wi

  • An offensive foul for a moving screen should have been called on Rashard Lewis.

  • "was that goaltending?..u can't hit the rim like that" "was that goaltending?..u can't hit the rim like that" "was that goaltending?..u can't hit the rim like that"

  • GGGGGGGGGGoaltend!!!!!

  • LAAKERSSSS WILL SWEEEPPP FUCK ALL YOU MAGIC FANS STOP BEEINGG PUSSYSS. hahaha i bet all you magic fans just jumped on their wagon this year and got rid of your lebron jerseys haha. YEP YEP YEP :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

  • Goaltending!!!!!!

  • Games are won by teams who are able to inflict their style of play onto the game, who are able to keep the pace of the game in their favor, who are able to keep momentum for their own team, they are not lost based on one freaking play. By that logic, IF Bryant doesn't step out of bounds and his three is counted, the Magic don't even get a chance to send it into over-time, or if Howard's goaltend against Gasol is called the Magic still lose. Some people just don't understand basketball.

  • You can't bring things that happened in the first quarter into account when its the last .6 seconds of a game...jesus you are a moron....It is technically a goal tend. Gasol's ugly ass hit the rim, which in one way or another whether you'd like to face it or not changed the destination of the basketball. I know basketball and I also know physics thanks :)

  • we can all agree that gasol touched the rim. you can also clearly see that backboard is shaking as the ball comes off it due to gasols rim interference. per the rulebook that is goaltending, no, the ball isn't using the rim, but the backboard is an extension of the rim. the rulebook needs to be cleared up, but basic logic suggests you can't cause the backboard or rim to shake while the ball is in contact with either surface. otherwise guys would be slamming the rim and backboard on every shot.

  • the missed an incredibly obvious goaltending on
