now correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I was taught that the Russians copied THE DESIGN of Concorde in order to build the Tu144. So the time of the first flight is not actually that relevant to the debate. The British and French taking time to work together is hardly a revelation, one would expect the Soviets to get their version flying first. Surely the question to ask is would there have been a Tu144 if it weren't for Concorde? You must admit the designs are incredibly similar?

the designs of boeing 707 and dc 8 are also similar. it doesen't mean that one of them was copied from an other one. the aerodynamic of tu-144 was more advanced. this aircraft could carry 40 passengers more. the fuselage is brighter then by concorde

Tu-144 was also used in passenger service, it served on line Moscow-Alma Ata (Kazakhstan). Unfortunately communist USSR was not the right market for a such expensive elite class supersonic plane. It might have a market niche in capitalism world but definitely not in a communistic.
