UP 7713 & 7708 are both technically GE's ES44AC's. UP doesn't run the DC version unlike BNSF. However, UP's naming convention is quite unique. The model displayed on the cab is AC45CCTE and differentiates the newer GEVO Teir II, 12 cylinder prime mover delivered after the 2005 year. The 45 does not imply an additional 100 hp, and the prime mover still remains at 4,400 hp.
First, train crews, like truck long haul truck drivers, run odd hours, the freight has got to go.
Red bull is your friend.
Anyone who has been in this industry any time at all knows about mini thins.
Second, although I have been around when a airline has failed, and it happens so frequently that there are airlines with gladhands attached and a wrench carried on board, I have never actually seen one fail.
Things like a 3 way valve failure we know how to bypass, a long hose and 2 gladhands .
While the rest of you idiots are arguing about nothing LOL! I just want to say great picture! Seeing an airline blow out in front of you like that is definitely not something you see everyday! Hats off to Nick! Thanks for sharing!
@mutanay77 GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH! JEEZ! hardly anybody has their facts straight. remember: UNION PACIFIC HAS NO ES44DC'S THE END OF IT!
It did not break "in front of you". You saw the snow kicked up because boxcars have their air tanks and valve gear on the bottom of the car. The hoppers and tanks on both sides of it, have the gear on the ends and inside the end sills. When they dump, the air is sent sideways.
@BNSFnick I mean no disrespect. I am satisfied, as I am engineer and every time a train goes in emergency I am in the the cab and never get to see the results or damage. Just my observations as I do work as a conductor from time to time and always watch the cars dump when we pull away. Its hard to say where any break happens, as the change in air happens at 700 mph. If you have a long train, when you are running it, you can usually tell where abouts the break is.
@ac83052 Its so hard to when on a 12 hour shift running a train you drink 12 diet cokes, 3 red bulls, 4 five hour shots and 3 bags of beef jerky. I cant stop shaking!
I hate that railroad crossing. This is at SR267, right? I live a mile from it and I get stopped by a train 4 out of 5 days during the week. SR267 should have been a bridge over this crossing due to it being so close to the yard.
Excellent catch, very rare to have that happen right in front of you. It would have been nice to have a little more in the video, but that's all right. 5*s
