I didn't measure the exact life but I can take 16GB (over 40min) with just one set of four eneloops.

You don't need any settings.

Turn image stabilizer on and set image size to 16:9 and press record button. That's all.

There is pretty much noise. It's seen on dark scenes. I also have SX1 and I see a lot of noise. Im thinking of buying EOS500d, but it's only 720p at 30 fps. 1080 is just 20fps
