  • This song is bloody genius - my brother used to 'bounce' at a popular night club in Great Yarmouth UK - he always said that the Sweet were wasted doing bubble gum stuff - so much talent, so little appreciation for what they could really do - and during their live gigs they really did what the wanted to do :) good on 'em

  • Замечательная группа!!! Я слушал её с 8 по 10 класс школы! УКРАИНА (СССР)

  • @lesterleand.. Brian passed away a few years ago sadly... I once saw a documentary on him touring in the early 90s. Sadly everyone he came across took the p**s out of him. I saw him in Scarborough, could still belt them out. But you could see he was in a bad way, constantly shaking.. it was heart breaking at the same time as great to see him.. if that makes sense

  • Sounds like they're trying to do 10cc... HAHA!

  • Perhaps ome of the best songs of all time or at least the decade. Brian has been a personal friend, saw him just a few years ago, he moved to Cleveland, age and his health has affected him, he lost his ability to sing at his level, grey hair lost his features with age and was driving a taxi cab to support himself financially, lost contact then saw him and spoke briefly as a female friend was taking him to a doctors appointment for his ticker, no idea now if he is alive or passed away.

  • @lesterleland Brian's been dead 15 years.

  • @lesterleland Just a few years??? According to Wiki ( not that I believe a lot from it ) says he died in feb 1997. OK if you should see him again send him my best regards :):):)

  • longing for these days, they never come back....

  • Loved this bands tunes; esp. this song. No on else sounded like these guys. Think I first saw them in '79 opening from REO I believee.

  • this is rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It´s great! R.I.P Brian & Mick

  • this is original...!!! short))))

  • omg Ricky Schroeder went back in time to sing this song!!!

  • one of the best SWEET-songs ever !!!

  • this guy has awesome hair!

  • @gleetus Brian was one of the most handsome blonde haired men, that I have ever seen. RIP Brian. and Mick was equally a Brown haired good looking man, RIP Mick.

  • What? Sweets had a lot of members? I bet they have!!!

  • @BoxOfOldCards But only 4 at the same time.

  • Weren't there only 4 people in The Sweet? Where did that other guitarist come from?

  • @edimage. actually there is only 2 of the original members left..Steve Priest and Andy Scott.

  • what agreat band they were r.i.p bri

  • You say Lady Gaga, I say Led Zeppelin

You say Hannah Montana, I say Beatles

You say Owl city, I say Deep Purple

You say Jonas Brothers, I say The Rolling Stones

You say Justin Bieber, i say Queen

You say Taylor Swift, i say Guns & Roses

95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop songs over and over. if your one of the 5% left who still listen to real music, thunb this up, then copy and paste it to least 5 videos. DONT LET THE SPIRIT OF ROCK&ROLL DIE!

  • @thechristopher1111

wright. i write from germany and i think like you. the stones and the other bands are the really heroes. who is lady gaga for good music? nothing. brian jones, van morrison, kevin koyne, jimmy page etc was or are musicans. long live rock n roll. lady gaga, you don't understand rock n roll. you are nothing.go to hell.

  • @thechristopher1111 5%??? Is that all that's left of us? That is SCAREY!

  • Dude, don't forget about Uriah Heep, UFO, the Zombies, Moody Blues, Badfinger...LOL, you get my general meaning.

  • @thechristopher1111

LADY GAGA IS GOOD ...THE REST I AGREE WITH...

  • @thechristopher1111

You forgot Motorhead and UFO my friend. Try a bit of Lynyrd Syynyrd or Molly Hatchet for some relaxation.

  • I will always love this group ..they were an inspiration to others,.. just wished Brian had not left us so early. A very talented singer, that will always be remembered and never forgotten.

  • @conradheidi well said! Brian really influenced me. Oz

  • Der einzigste Titel der "The Sweet" vor "The Tunten" rettet !

  • just finished the book blockbuster. Those guys should have helped Brian when he first started drinking too much, and why didn't his wife stand by him. She sure did take his money!!

  • Is that Susan Sarandon on guitar?

  • Would you believe it - the Sweet are gonna be playin in Bonn on the 3rd Oct. I heard their tunes on the radio all the time when I was little. Madam wants to go & see em so I gotta go - but It's OK I'm not complaining :):):) Actually look forward to it - never in my imagination had I ever thought I would see Sweet live!

Have a nice day peeps :):):)

  • @2JAMMY, did ya get to see em ? were they any good ?

  • @gpzb2 Hello mate :) Yeah we did see em sort of we couldn't get to the front so we watched em on screen. They did look very tired but it was nice to see some of the original guys playin tunes that I heard when I was little - memories hey :) Obviously the voices were a little changed too. A skinny dude came on when they were finished & made stupid remark about the audience as old as the group :(

Times changed so much from the 70's & this did bring it home - I know what I prefer, All the best :):)

  • @2JAMMY

    they not the original

    two have died

  • @edimage Yes mate - I looked em up on Wiki. I didn't know BC had died - he was the only face I would have remembered. It was very sad with his alcoholism all his vids show him trembling & slurring his speech :( He seemed to have had a sad sort of life according to what I read. But it has been a long time since they came out & absolutely everything has changed. I'd prefer the 70's anytime it's all just fighting now. It was a nice treat to hear them play some old tunes, all the best dude :):):)

  • @2JAMMY

as mick jagger once said...its only rock and roll but i like :)

  • @edimage Hahahahaha!.....Absolutely :) Have you seen what he's up to now? Superheavy or something like that. His voice is a bit croaky now too but I don't think he got anything over you with your Delilah from ol Jonesy :):):)

  • @2JAMMY

hey thats what i do,when ive had a few

    its a laugh :)

  • @2JAMMY

they would have been only one of the original member of the group in which you saw steve presity is in the u.s.a with his group of the sweet.....you tube him he right fat sod now and sounds crap

best to remember them how they was, which was a good rock band if listen to thier bsides of the singles and of thier albums/cds

  • @edimage You are absolutely correct sir - remember them as they were in the original energy of the times :) I gonna look up the 'fat sod' now Hahaha! Don't know if i'm trying to politically correct or just plain polite - but a lot of the old things sound 'crap' now as well :) unless you are listening to the original takes - but then that is how we remember them & probably expect them to be still.

I wish you a most wonderful day sir - all the best :):):)

  • @2JAMMY

were's showaddywaddy when you need them ....ha

  • @edimage Interestingly with old Showaddywaddy (funny name man :)) the lead singer is the brother of one of my old teachers at Temple Cowley School in Oxford. He look just like him , tall bugger played basketball for Seensee Sonics or something like that :) yeah old Mr Bartram. That was in the seventies & some of the nicest times I had even the school was great :) That was from when I remember all these great old tunes - 76 the drought remember that? Hahahahaha! Brilliant days!

  • @2JAMMY

going to see them this december only three of them left now

  • @edimage Steve Presity????? Hahahahah! I didn't think us oldies made spelling mistakes but hey we gotta learn something from modern youth - OK so Steve Priest :) Yeah I remember seeing him & he is a 'fat sod' obviously all meant without prejudice & in the nicest possible taste :):):)

  • @2JAMMY

yea.......hes having fun in his old age,hes 62 this year,if he laid off the big macs he might look a bit better and feel it to

  • Ouais y s etait vachement bien !

  • ke este gran grupo no es Electric Light Orchestra.... corrijanme banda.

  • @MrMaldoso78 claro que si, incomparable el sonido

  • @MrMaldoso78 I always though this song was by ELO too. It sounds just like them.

  • @Raman711 Thats funny,I used to think the song was done by 10cc.You learn something new every day.LOL.

  • i love sweet band <3 they are just awesome..too bad it seems im the only one in my town who loves there....when i ask abt this band they all are like "whats that"....life is sweeet when u re listening to SWEEEEEET <3

    love is like Oxygen :))

  • great group no one else comes close and never will

  • I dont know why people say they were underrated...at the time they had heaps of hits and gold records up the ying yang. They were huge. When they began this sound with Wig Wham Bam, Elo was just a figment of Jeff Lynes imagination...he was still with the Move.

  • @kramrollin69 there on about there later non glam songs which werehits elswhere but should have made it here

  • i kinda forgot how many tunes they put out.i have it all on vinyl and just never dig into it.always a treat.

  • is it always the same 6 stupid that "dislike"? CAUSE IN EVERY GREAT SONG THERE ARE THIS BIG GOOD FOR NOTHING SIX STIPIDS !!!!! THAT DISLIKE

  • Out of all the versions on YouTube this sounds like the only legit one.

  • Brian, vom Alkohol gezeichnet ... furchtbar

  • damn its like 2 am and i cant go to sleep without listening to the beautiful sounds of the sweet<3

  • Brian's health problems had got a grip on him by this stage ;there is a definite hint of melancholy within the band here.Andy sang all of the choruses(including the harmonies ) and he said that Brian arrived early one morning at the studio and sang the verses brilliantly in just one take ! And yes ,they were an underrated band !

  • @TheHumbuckerboy its called a hang over. Check out Brians "Hobby" Fantastic band though.

  • @motney555 I would say that Brian was feeling the effects of years of heavy alcohol abuse here.Such a shame!

  • @TheHumbuckerboy yes agreed but a star never the less

  • @motney555 Absolutely ,Brian was a brilliant front man.He had real 'presence' and was a great performer who could sing sugary Pop or Heavy Rock music equally well.

  • Und das ist Musik mit echten Instrumenten nicht aus dem rechner.

  • @EllieElaine1 I know right; i still got a BC haircut today ( check my pic on my account if you don't believe me) xD!

  • Yeah, I caught this during a 70's blast on a radio station! When I heard it, all the memories came rushing back and I can't get this song out of my head! I love it!

  • where's the dude that has the deep voice???? is he the invisible sweet african american?

  • look at brian 2-21 to 2-28, he seems to be struggling for breath, very sad.

  • nice touch starting the song with the chorus!!!

  • great 70's track Sweet were one of the best 70's bands and were very underrated

  • @sunboy1000 They are absolute rock heros. No doubt.

  • That guy has a really good voice. Did he make "Rolling Stones" top 100 vocalists?

  • wow I gave my brother shit about this...and he was older!

  • I believe Brian died of Obscurity, it is a disease that affects many famous people who find themselves out of the limelight. They turn to alcohol and its all down hill from their. Obscurity lead to Brians drinking which in turn his liver problem.

A great band of their day with some real gems and a great live act.

  • @GGGG1968 but I thought he began having a drinking problem when they were still going strong....

  • q l xupn ls 6 a ls q no les gusto

  • these guys are musical geniouses!!brian has such a cool voice.rip my friend.

  • Brian Connelly was never the same after some cunt in a Bethnal Green shithouse pub slashed his throat, and within a year his step-brother Mark MacMannus who played Taggart on TV died of pneumonia! Very sad loss on both counts!

  • Andy looks like George Harrison here.

    theyre all much older here...

    sweet SWEET

  • @thornysubject yeah...I always was trying to figure out who Andy looked like with the beard, and I guess I would have to say George Harrison!

  • I remember how huge this band was In my day, along with the likes of slade and T.Rex. Sweet were the best though. There's a couple of good Documentaries on here including one In which Brian Is interviewed when only months from death and It breaks your heart to see how massively he declined. What a Guy. THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE KEPT BRIAN AND SWEET ALIVE THROUGH YOUR EFFORTS.Please keep 'em coming.

  • @millerman88HH so sad magic band and you said some nice things kind regards from geordie-land

  • At the close of the Glam Rock Explosion in 1976, many of the Glam Rock Bands released perhaps their very best records, which is quite ironic. Love is Like Oxygen is an example of this.

  • Wow ! I thought this song was done by ELO. Learn something everyday I guess.

  • @moparnutjim idiot how can you mistake this for ELO ,no fucking comparison , whats going on ? if you comment make sure you are genuine ,or FUCK OFF

  • @kytoka1 chill out-why so aggressive?? its only a bloody pop song. and how long ago did this come out? its fair that you could get mixed up about it. lets face it -this was a new direction for sweet at the time. i really liked them & bought all their singles, but even i thought it was 10cc the first time i heard it.

  • @kytoka1 give him a break the harmonising sounds not unlike ELO on mr blue sky

  • @kytoka1 i always thought this was an e l o song. the harmony sounds just like mr blue sky and the epic type of song this is, is like e l o. and saying they sound like e l o is a compliment not an insult.

  • @judyluvsnoel lol How could you possibly think this was ELO? hahaha Oh Christ, that's funny . :-)

  • @Nigelxman1 wow. you are easy to amuse. i wish i could laugh at nothing. : - D

  • If you had ever listened to ELO you would likely find your post as amusing as I did . lol But I digress. :-) And yes, it's a shame you aren't able to laugh at nothing . :-)

  • @Nigelxman1 i listen to elo all the time, sometimes daily. mr blue sky is one of my fav songs. i can laugh at nothing i am laughing at you. X-D

  • @judyluvsnoel I find you very amusing Judy. :-)

  • @Nigelxman1 giggle away fool ;0 ) jk on the fool.

  • @judyluvsnoel Still love Noel Judy?

  • @Nigelxman1 ....I just read this and had to reply

I actually thought Todd Rundgren or ELO sang this when I was a kid, then I found out later it was Sweet

I think that the similarities in how they sound in this song is uncanny....

  • @CattitudeInterlude Okey dokey. :-) To me Jeff Lynnes voice is very unique and instantly recognizable but evidently I'm alone in that view.

  • @Nigelxman1 oopsie! :D you know....I really should have clarified what I was referring to specifically- I don't think Jeff or Brian sound alike-it's just during the chorus when the whole band sings together it sounds just like ELO -that's what messed me up years ago when I was a kid :/

  • @CattitudeInterlude I understand what you mean. :-) There is a similarity in the chorus. Cheers.

  • @Nigelxman1 yup

    and the words

    love is like oxygen

well, if that isn't dead on, I don't know what is!

    :D

    take care! :)

    Tami

  • @CattitudeInterlude Have a great day Tami! Cheers.

  • @kytoka1 Because they sound like ELO.

  • good old times

  • Mad song, mad band. The Sweet had big success from about 1970-75. Then they went quiet for a while. Then in 78 they came back big time with this one.

  • Fantastic talent! One of my favorite bands of all time.

    RIP Brian and Mick.

  • wow-RIP- brian and mick- Sweet got me thru hi-school- and girls- 8 track city ( with the matchbook to shim it from skippin") what memories !! Awesome

  • @Finleysen Yes its a terrible shock. Very sad and we miss them terribly.

  • génial !! que de souvenirs ,,,,,, l'album était super aussi ......

  • Andy Scott played a big part in the backing vocal harmonies for Sweet, creating the Distinct sound on their records. On "Love is Like Oxygen" , Andy provides the vcls on the chorus, while Brian sings the verses.

  • fuck you thats Brian singing lead ...fucking Andy fuckin Scott ...

  • I would give anything to do it with Steve Priest circa 73-78 :)

  • who's the 2nd guitarist back there?

  • spikepedestal,

i think your wrong about this video Brian's voice is unmistakable and he had solid performance here but there was more of Andy singing as you suggested since the band was changing its style and music.

    just my 2 cents

  • My childhood dream band-They were the Best!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Most of the vocals on this song are by Andy as Brian's voice was pretty shot by this time (Andy says this himself on a Sweet DVD I have), so what you're seeing is Brian miming to someone else's vocal for the most part

  • Nice miming guys

  • Brian's voice was so awesome but the band was a collective accomplishment to achieve the whole of the sum. Every time I hear them I learn more about the music.

  • Maybe it is just me but this song seems like a real predecessor to what ELO did later on, I really think this band had an incredible sound and influence on others that followed. Brian had such a good voice and cool persona on stage but collectively they made up the Sweet sound. Very awesome band and should have gotten much more acclaim.

  • @rvphoto Your exactly right, and you've got a good ear, because Sweet had a sound engineer, Reinhold Mack, who left Sweet to record with ELO, then left ELO to work with Queen. You can hear his musical trademark in all these bands. I didn't know of this link between all three bands until just a few years ago. But my surprised light bulb went off as I said "Of Course".

  • Great bunch of guys, witty ,original, full of innuendo and double meanings. Awarded the Ivor Novello award for song writing for this which is powerful, poetic and well crafted. The Elo would have been very proud of this one!

  • I like how the drummer is decked out in the New Wave fashion already.

  • This is a great, great song but my god, they look so sad, so tired.

  • sad that the singer passed away ...

  • Yet another great tune from that Annus Mirabilis for music: 1978

  • @cheekyhamsta So true : 1978 annus mirabilis : Love Don't Live Here Anymore, Baker Street, Night Fever, Northern Lights, SummerNight City, Mr Blue Sky, Dancing In the City to name only a few...

    Ahhh memories

  • @nevv Those songs you named definitely bring back good memories of a great year for music. I'll also add in The Motors - Airport, Jilted John, Yellow Dog, Chic - Le Freak from the same year amongst many others..

  • Their vocal harmonies were first class !

  • What a Great Track ! music was music it those days !

  • GROSOS.

  • Yes, Kenny, I remember how much you loved this song. Thanks for suggesting it. Take Care.

  • Brian Connolly , great singer. R.I.P.

  • super lied,und die Simme.

  • This clip also contents the reason why they disappeared. Nevertheless: nostalgic bumps appears..

  • great song. incredible how many people view Sweets videos and make comments about their clothing, hair, makeup, etc. they think it's bizarre. well to all of you, how old are you? what about todays bands and singers, talk about bizarre! no one in this band was gay or a transvestite. they were a good band and underrated.

  • @cplegogame25

I saw Sweet in 75 before the Punk explosion, and their glam hair and clothes were perfect then. but this was 78!!! fashion had moved on...great song but.........

  • @howardmark true but what sounds better in 2010 this or sham 69?

  • @cplegogame25 very well said my friend.........

  • @cplegogame25

right you are. And I think It is good to be unique, or. Do you agree?

  • reminds me of ELO -

  • It's great songs like this that made Spinal Tap so very successful..love is indeed like Oxygen.. well done boys - sadly missed The Sweet!! Great memories..

  • Check out the "do" on the lead singer. Imagine a guy looking like this today, and you'd think otherwise. This was one of the better songs of the 70's, though.

  • Hard to do such a statement about times uninvocative. We were dead cool all guys back then, all with this coiffure.

  • BaboonBro: Odd how we look back, and scratch our heads today at such doings.

  • If I had a time machine the first stop would be 1978.

  • lol...i remember when this was big hit on the US radio in 1979....first time i got HIGH was to this song...Those were the days.

  • great to know you like British bands :)

  • @kblopp I'm still in 1978, it's great! :-)

  • @SeventiesMania

    So am I - ain't it great?

  • :35 Brians floating away!!! aaah need more dope

  • OMG! Its the bass player from Spinal Tap playing lead!

  • This was my very first favourite band - I still love this song!

  • Tons of info on Sweet online - just type in Sweet on Google and you will get all the info you need... and all their hits and videos are on Youtube of course! Enjoy!

  • Just after I posted my call for info, another comment recommended Wikipedia. So do I, now.

Good old Sweet of the 70's, people used to "run em down" and they were really underrated compared to Queen, for instance. Queen were at the "Pavillion club" in Cheltenham, in summer 74, and someone kept-on unplugging them ?. They gave-up and leaved. Mad ain't it !

It took me years to dig much of their music, but "Mr. Farenheit" certainly melted my ice !

  • A true classic when i was a little twat!

  • So what are you now ?

  • All time favorite Sweet song!!!!!

  • awsome amazing 70s band

  • 05/10/09: Have a happy birthday up there in Heaven, sweet BC... love always, Liz, Dublin.

  • @astonmerrygoldfan09 I totally agree with the onewho said they were "underated".. Allthough I loved their stuff, I never knew their names or history, so is their a site where I can put that right - anyone ? Said don't it always seem to go .......

  • I replied to your request but it went to 4Beco by mistake!

  • Wow Brian had a really good voice as the years went on! Too bad he got in a fight and got his throat punched ... something like that

  • It looks like E.L.O. ...or not?

  • dumbass, elos singer is blind. and he plays the piano.

  • Thanks to whoever provided this video. The quality is pretty good. Too bad it cuts off before the song ends. Sweet 4ever!

  • love this song brings alot of memories

  • Hey are any of these guys still Living ? If so then,I wonder what they are doing now?

  • Wiki has a great page on these guys.

  • Okay call me dumb here but what is

Wiki ? What is it's website if there is one.

  • Well , at any rate they would have lost the little looks they have got by now

since they should be in their 60' s now.

Must be some doddering old grand fathers !

  • THEY ARE, BUT when they perform it`s acculy really good, but i`ve only seen 1 of the bands

  • Brian the lead singer died in the late 1990s of liver failure. Mick the drummer died in 2002. Andy and Steve still perform and tour with their own versions of Sweet. Steve lives in California, his band is supposed to be quite good, though for me it woudn't have been the same without Brian. The guy was out of control though. One of my favourite bands ever, they were very underrated.
