I always thought that Nero wasn't related to Sparda/Dante/Vergil at all, in fact I agree with Silicon, it wasn't until the demon bit him and his arm got infected.

alright, heres the truth, yes Vergil did die in DMC1, by Dante cos he was under Mundus' control BUT part of his soul was sealed within Yamato, I think that either Mundus or someone else cut Yamato in half to trap the elder son of Sparda within the sword, and when Nero got bitten by the demon, part of Vergil's conscious was transferd to Nero. that activated Yamato and they became as one being
