There are many reasons he won't take the 20,000 and buy more equipment. My first guess is that the equipment was most likely customized just for him. My second is the fact that there is a 90% chance that there is unpublished work saved on those keyboards. Finally, my third guess is that the equipment was probably acquired over a long period of time, meaning that he might not be able to just go out and buy that equipment because it might not be sold anymore.
