After relocating from Auckland to Sydney - I have to laugh at this video because the Auckland drivers are good compared to here in Sydney. In Sydney - everyone speeds & tailgates (I'm not exaggerating)! Changing lanes without indicating, going through roundabouts without giving way and zipping in and out of traffic are a way of life here! I nearly get wiped at at roundabouts once a fortnight...so count your lucky stars you're not in Sydney!
@djinnov8 You must be very unlucky with the drivers you meet as NZ's road toll is way higher than Aus by population, I known Aus is bad but maybe you have just got a bad area, For example West Auckland is much worst than the East due to the very poor Police Force in West Auckland, the tailgating I show doesn't look anything like as bad as it actually is due the the wide angle lens of the camera.
Tasmanian drivers are just as bad, that's why I have a GPS 1080p camera in the car. I have a dual battery setup, so I can leave it on when away from the car, and it lasts for 3 or more days without going anywhere to recharge the battery in the boot. I just uploaded a new video of a noob in a commodore who cut me off yesterday. It's worth watching the slowmo bit carefully. she isn't even looking as she pulls out in front of me. Lucky for her I have quick reflexes and a sweet ride with good tires.
@adimw At the time of this video I was using Contour 1080p's front and rear. I believe a Contour Roam is now Contours entry level camera, it is cheaper and I also believe the picture quality is better. Contour sell screen mounts (which I use) and Ram Mounts also sell them. The cameras are cheapest on ebay and amazon, even if customs sting you with GST etc they are still cheaper than buying them here.
@CarBoundCyclist hmmm, im using a "720p HD DVR" but it is actually 480p and cost about $100 from Trademe. It supports loop recording and it looks like the Contours don't? thanks for your reply
@adimw I am now using an 808 #11 (Jumbo) in the rear 720p $80 inc postage see "Tailgater almost hits me WC6754" you can get the standard version (poor battery life) for $50 they will take a 32gb card, it won't loop either (close and continue), but with the supplied 12v power adaptor it will record for a long time
This looks like a good day to me. Drivers in Auckland are terrible. Alot worse happens everyday. Sad thing is you don't have to be driving for more than 5 mins to see this kind of behavior.
@LethalCssPlayer haha, yes, true this is just nornal driving in Auckland. with the type of lens the camera has (very wide angle) and can't tell just how bad things are, and at any distance from the camera the detail is way too small to be worth posting. As you say this is just constant (in Auckland at least)
@KPKaccountt No, I think he was a Pacific Islander or part, assuming the bad drivers are all Asian is a very popular misconception in NZ, NZer’s are all too ready to blame other nationalities, bad driving is universal in NZ as the test is a joke so no professional training is needed in order to easily pass. Still there are many drivers that don't even take a test = not much chance of being stopped or even noticed
hmm i think u should see their face n checkout,it's possible that those drivers are ppl who migrated from south east asian coutnries (as their driving style sucks) and since auckland has the msot foreign ppl in NZ
Hmm yeah its a country wide problem. Unfortunately for Auckland they have a lot of ignorant, arrogant and down right dumb as shit foreigners driving around up there. I feel for ya mate. Would have been awesome to see that car at 1:32 take the pole position ;D What a dickhead! What gets me annoyed are impatient lane hoppers and people that pull out and cut past you just to turn off 50 meters ahead - whats up with that!? LOL. Take care!
wtf!!! trust me mate this is not just an auckland issue i see this throughout the country! even down in buckwheat invercargill! it makes your blood boil. i was going to suggest you to show a lot if not all this footage to the cops but like you said they do sweet f all :(
whenever i experience shitty driving i just keep my cool and say "thats what we're up against..." lol i know i might not be the best driver out there but daaamn!
@CarBoundCyclist cheer up,mait,at least there are worse countries than this,in indonesia,u often get honked even for something unecessary because most of them are inpatient
@CarBoundCyclist , The trouble is, most of us think we are such unbelievably good drivers that we don't need to obey the rule . Of course this is a myth .
@KPKonliner New Zealand is not trying to compete with Indonesia etc. NZ has a Very large Police Force and claims to be a First World Country, and should be up to standard for all the time and money spent (wasted) on Policing. I have no doubt that there are worse Countries but NZ has driving tests and rules. NZ paying it’s Cops a lot to fix things but they can’t be bothered
@CarBoundCyclist Absolutely. I've seen some truely appauling driving since living in NZ and some of it has been by Police officers in normal driving situations, not lights and sirens.
@outside4areacleaning New Zealanders are very insular; they don’t understand or won’t admit that their standards are much lower than the norm and to say anything else is unpatriotic. New Zealand wastes millions on ineffective Policing, and has ridiculously weak penalties e.g. today’s News a driver kills three cyclists and only gets a fine, 300 hours community service, and 12 months loss of licence. The Cops driving is as you say appalling.
You are not alone... Come to Malaysia, you will experience the same drivers, sometimes worse than NZ. Sad to say that, the driving behaviour does not reflect the utmost frendliness of fellow NZers.........
@blws7021 There are a few Countries with driving as bad as NZ, but only a few, people are the same the World over but Policing is not, so you will find huge differences in safety of roads World wide
@oleg1981 This is only a very small sample of the standard of driving in NZ. By population NZ kills more on its roads than Canada, we are mainly on a par with Countries that do not require driving tests in order to drive on the road. Though that could be partly because the Police have stopped their promised check that drivers are licensed meaning that a lot of drivers drive for years without a licence and aren’t noticed because the standard here is so low :-(
