The highlight of Glastonbury, seen from a clear viewpoint with good sound. The BBC were there but we wouldn't know the Wombles had been had it not been for people like rseamer. I made my protest by turning wotdoesthisbuttondo's idea into a Downfall parody. Mind you, I've just had the idea for a wombling licence - guarantees live coverage of the Wombles and the best acts at Glastonbury, do you think they could do it for less than £1.7m? lol
@KangoTV I love U2 and have seen them a few times, including 2 years ago on the 360 tour where they were breathtaking but, trust me on this, The Wombles were miles better as an experience than U2 last weekend. I saw both!
@ninjathunderbolt Jeez man, what drugs were you taking? I'm always mindful to pick up any litter but I doubt The Wombles will have any impact on my life, whether I see them live or not. U2 = Big Impact. Can't even believe I'm being drawn into the U2-ers vs furry things that don't exist debate.
@KangoTV U2? Oh, right, my mother loved their music.
Only joking.. a little. (My mother really did enjoy U-2.) But the Wombles have wonderful pop music, and have lasted for over 20 years so far. That's impressive in the music business, you have to admit.
I agree - shame on the BBC ! Great stuff ... at last something to geuinely enjoy... so much more enjoyable than a lot of the toss the BBC did show... I would have gone just to see the Wombles ....
@kingofpunk1977 Then you have my sympathy! This is just a stab in the dark but judging by your name and anti U2 comments, did you by any chance form a teenage punk-ish band in the early 80's (with a similar sound to U2) but not get anywhere cause you were shite?
@KangoTV Your stab at the dark was very close but I in fact formed a punk band in 1994-1996 in my late 20's. We did not get anywhere success wise but always went down well live. When people don't know you personally but shout for more was a great buzz. Were we shite? I didn't think so (Our music was punk but we all dressed normal.....no mohawks, bondage trousers etc. When U2 1st started 1980-82. They had energy but the Clash/SLF/Killing Joke/2 Tone/XTC/Bauhaus/Pil shat on them. An opinion
@KangoTV Sorry I forgot In 1980 The Ruts/Gang of 4/Joy Division/Devo/The Slits/The Damned (Black Album/Strawberries) /Gary Numan/Teardrop Explodes/Costello/The Stranglers/Early UB40/Kate Bush/Basement 5/The Exploited/The Jam/The Undertones/Adam & the Ants/Black Flag/Dead Kennedys/Husker DU/Human Leauge/Heaven 17/Roxy/Bowie/Talking Heads/Grace Jones/B52s/Linton Kwesi Johnson/Early dancehall/Early Rap etc (A LOT OF DIVERSITY THERE ALL PUNK IN THEIR OWN WAY) were much much better than U2. Thanks
Gutted I didn't go to Glastonbury this year. I would have travelled to Tomsk to see the Wombles. Come on Mike Batt, how about a world tour to Adelaide, Wellington, Tobermory, Cholet, Bulgaria, Omsk, Bungo, Alderneyand Yellowstone?
@mariegriffiths Sadly, I can believe it, as it illustrates perfectly how up their own arses and out of touch the BBC commissioners are. This was the kind of act which brings together very different audiences, from parents with young children to the quirky, studenty type. In other words, ideal music festival fare. What is more surprising (or maybe not! ;-) ) is how Michael Eavis completely missed the point of this.
@mariegriffiths I complained and got a reply back today in which they did not admit their lack of insight in not filming The Wombles. I got the impression they thought I was eccentric. Bah.
exactly. Given the choice... Wombles. Rocked the house. up yours Eavis ;-)

Apparently several professional hi- def cameras recorded the event for Mike Batt's record label. The campaign for a DVD/Blu Ray release starts here.

According to Mike Batts Tweets they were there with five HD cameras. So you can expect new footage soon.
