Nicely done, though I have to admit I am glad they changed Universe of Energy. The original really was long and boring. I do miss Horizons and World of Motion.
I wonder where all of the animatronics go, once the ride is closed? You have Horizons, World of Motion and the old version of Journey into Imagination. Those are a lot of animatronics and props.
Horizons was, by far, the best ride...I can't believe they got rid of it. It was what Carousel of Progress was supposed to be, and the ending kicked butt. Sure, they could have updated it, but closing it...booooo
@monstersdt Horizons is great, agreed...and so was Journey to Imagination, before the refurb which destroyed it, I think...what they should have done is left both alone, and put Mission: Space where Wonders of Life was.
@1983Horizons1 - I feel the exact same way as you do about Soarin'. It's a great ride, but does it belong at Epcot as part of The Land? Especially the end of the ride, where the guests "land" at Disneyland! How bizarre! (I first went on this attraction at CA Adventure, which made it all the more odd to see it at Epcot.). It would have been nice if they had used the same ride concept, but re-worked a different movie into it to fit in more appropriately with The Land theme.
wonders of life...NO MORE? FUCK, I LOVED BODY WARS, reminded me of star tours for some..oh wait, IT'S THE SAME THING, just inside a human body and no robot
it's really fascinating what a park originally a starts outs as and what it eventually turns into, look at the old MGM Studios, meant to be a 1/2 day park and a working production studio, now after the years have morphed it its gone from Studio, to Studio meets Theme Park, to simply theme park. Very interested in seeing Animal Kingdom in 20 years.
Epcot is my favorite park! I was there in March 2009 for my Senior Trip. I can't say i really miss rides/attractions like the World of Motion or Communicore since i didn't go to Disney World for the first time until 1997. I don't remember doing The Living Seas or Horizons (i think i did it once) but they look cool, but Mission Space is pretty sweet! I do wish that Wonders of Life was still open! Epcot is awesome the way it is now and that's my opinion and I respect all others opinions as well.
also, did you know that, originally, the design of Communicore you show in 4:24 was supposed to be the original design for the world showcase, back when EPCOT center was still Walt's original dream? something neat i learned as a cast member...
me going for the 3rd time in september 2010 staying next to epcot and cant wait. but the 8.30 houre plain ride is a pain and then 1 houre in cars but its worth it 100%
Also I did see the Food rocks show in year of 1993 and it was so good,Im taking my 5 year old daughter there next year and she would have loved that show!
i guess you can look at it two ways, people who have never been to epcot appreciate the new attractions more than people who have visited since they were little and was lucky enough to have seen the classic attractions that have now gone! Epcot will always remain the best place on earth for me,no matter what they do! Peace XXXXX
im not sure if anyone else agrees with me on this,But Epcot is more of a educational park with attraction that are meant to inspire & edcucate...i simly loved Horizons, and the living seas these were both Epcot classics that they have removed and updated,i just wish they would have kept the two there because disney have plenty of thrill rides in other parks and Epcot is for people who enjoy inspirational rides and pure classics!
wow, it was nice....but when you think about the true essence of EPCOT, it's a good thing that it changed. as a Cast Member there, i know that it's supposed to change because of the changing technologies. really, would you rather go on world of motion, a slow moving ride, or test-track, and intense ride. horizons vs. mission:space, soarin' vs. food rocks...just my opinion.
@1983horizons1 you feel that now, but is that what you thought of when you went to the park? granted, it's a different sort of park. but in it's true essence, Walt Disney World is a company (*gasp*) and they must tend to the needs of the masses. i understand that a large part of the disney pop is fan-based, and they try to listen to everyone, but times are a-changing, as does disney. don't get me wrong, the old stuff was nice.
@mercermartinez I think you're failing to look at the bigger picture. I thought Food Rocks was fun, but I wasn't saddened to see it go. It really didn't belong there as much as Soarin' doesn't belong there. If you go by a case to case basis you'll find plenty of things that didn't work in epcot during the early years, but the experience as a whole worked much better than the many disjointed pavilion that are there now.
@SteelCity1981 I like Soarin'. I don't have a problem with the attraction so much as the film. A flight across California has nothing to do with "The Land". A simple change of film and a little re-theming could make the attraction more relevant.
@1983horizons1 So many of the scences they show in California aren't apart of the land scape of the US?
Well seeing as it's one of Disney's most popular attractions, I see no reason why they should change it. In fact it's the most sought after attraction in Epoct due to the high volume of wait time compared to any other attraction there.
@SteelCity1981 Its popularity at California Adventure is the only reason it was retro-fitted into The Land in the first place. It fits the theme at California Adventure. Just because it is also popular at EPCOT does not mean it matches the theme of the rest of the pavilion. It would be more relevant if the film showed various different environments which world is composed of instead of California or even the US.
@SteelCity1981 I'm not trying to bash Soarin' at all. It's hardly as bad as most of the other changes that have occurred at EPCOT. I'm just thinking of ways it can be improved.
I agree. It's always good to change over time. The old rides look cool, but the current rides rock! I would love to be a Cast Member. I'm considering interning during my college career! WDW rocks!
Oh how I miss the wonder's of life pavillion. I never had the chance to go in there because where they put the dome at. Just think about it. Between trees at the courner of EPCOT. And I like journey into Imagination with figment more than dreamfinder and Living with the see's with nemo is better. I also miss Disney food Rocks. I never had the chance to see that to.
I agree. the rides the way I remember them from the 80's and early 90s were SO much better than they are now. They INSIST on putting in the cutesy characters from the movies into the pavilions and rides where they don't belong. It was always "the Living Seas" not with "Nemo and Friends." that ruined it. Just like Iago ruined the Tiki Birds in the Magic Kingdom.
I think its safe to say all the orogional stuff in future world is now ling gon. Same names in some of them but diferent. Well at least the fountain is still there and they just invested in it and the shows thank god. i miss the old ending of spaceship earth.
but do you remember how there were two kids talking on video chat in the ending of SSE? do you know what that is? that is now skype today...the technology changed, so it was pointless having that in there and saying this is our future when we already have it today.
EPCOT litterally closed down every original ride they had... but I am more upset about the first Journey Into Imagination closing, but EPCOT is still a fun place to go to =-D
Thats the real epcot. I like how you added the epcot fountain. I heard it might be listed on the map. that is the real epcot as of year 200 it turned into 6 flags at epcot center lol. Epcot is still my favorite park. They have to stop changing the classic rides and open up a new section and add horizons again. I was realey little the last time I walked out of horizons but didnt they put stuff from horizons into spaceship earth.
there is this one song from epcot that plays in the fountain area when the fountain show is not going on. i constantly have it stuck in my head, and i cant find it anywhere!!! does anyone else know what i'm talking about???
Every time I have had the opportunity to go to the Theme Parks, Wonders of Life pavillion has been closed. I don't think I have been there since 1998! Can anyone tell me when it IS open? I am going down again in January of 2009.
