  • it only the older people how fall for this and find it hard to use and adapt to different oparating systom

  • and then there would cut my scene out lolol

  • i no a lots about os if there come up to me i would say it kde

  • lololol

  • Wrung group of audience, if you ask ppl on YouTube then hell yeah but in a mall? Lulzsec

  • lol, windows 7 is (bad) operating system, but KDE 4 is desktop inviromment !

  • I'm not surprised by this at all. A lot of people haven't even heard of Linux at all.

Windows is dominate because it's shoved down our throats and is intrenched in education. For example you go to any college or high school and they are taught to use M.S Office instead of any alternative. And they are always running some version of Windows (or Mac).

If Linux was given equal marketing attention and driver support I don't see why they wouldn't take at least 25% or MS's market share or more.

  • XD

  • xd wouu sime ubieran preguntado ami que diria umm buena pregunta...

  • kde = better than windows

  • "It's all about branding. People are after the branding"

I disagree. While that may certainly be a compelling reason for some customers, there are many actual reasons to use windows. Does KDE have 90,000 employees dedicated to fixing and improving their product? Are there thousands of applications written with KDE compatibility in mind, with more coming each day? Will fluency in KDE make you more employable?

  • @benerban Admittedly Win 7 is a huge improvement over previous versions. But seriously if 90,000 employees all spent their time fixing and improving you'd think we'd have something a lot better today. The amount of problems and bugs that still exist in windows is huge. It took 30 years to finally make an OS that sort of copied what Unix/Linux has been doing all this time.

Here is a small but valid for instance. When are they going to make a file system that doesn't need defragging???

  • @nymusicman lol, a valid point. I just defragged my laptop and family PC earlier today :P (However I'm not convinced that the average hard drive "needs" to be defragmented... I just do it out of habit.)

  • @nymusicman I think in this business, and others perhaps, there is definitely a system of diminishing returns. Start a company that employs 1000? You've got a major brand. Add another 1000? Your product is better, but not 2x as good. Then, add 1000 to 89000, and you can probably see where I'm going here: the difference will be almost nonexistent. You could also call it the "last mile" effect.

Bottom line is this: it might cost millions to give your product a tiny edge. Is it worth it? Sometimes

  • @nymusicman Simply: lack of real competition. Dominant market share never leads to best possible products. If you look at the total market shares, Mac OS X (as an OS only) and Linux, are not really threatening Windows, so they don't have to care about fixing some ancient issues or making better filesystems.

  • come on u were talking to dumb asses, if i was there i would've said "lol windows uses kde?"

  • Great video but even here you can see the video glitches that are still around today. Nothing huge but spoils the experience.

  • @MagikGimp I got rid of those glitches by switching from "shared memory" mode to textures.

  • I had also experience with plenty games running better on Linux than Windows, including but not limited to Crysis, Deus Ex, Doom 3, F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin, etc. And on top of that I don't have to worry about viruses.

  • @MNWalkr how did you emulate them?

  • @cybertpad18 *facepalm* you don't emulate them. You run them in Linux either natively (Doom3, Quake 1/2/3/4, Unreal Tournament 2004, etc.) or through windows compatibility layer called "Wine" (Crysis, Deus Ex, Oblivion, F.E.A.R 2, etc.). Emulation is required only for DOS games (using DOSbox or dosemu) and console games (PS, PS2, NES, SNES, Nintendo64, Gamecube, Xbox). Emulators are usually generation or two behind due to enormous hardware requirements.

  • @cybertpad18 That said most DOS, NES, SNES, PS and PS2 games will work perfectly fine on any computer with at least Athlon XP or Pentium 4.

  • @MNWalkr the windows compatibility layer can be called emulation. I was refering to wine when I made that statement. But thanks for the heads up.

  • @cybertpad18 funny how Wine, the Windows compatibility layer, *stands* for "Wine Is Not an Emulator."

  • @cybertpad18 Emulator would create complete sandboxed virtual environment, like DosBox or some older computer and consoles emulators do, whereas Wine is simply a bunch of libraries that re-implement Windows API within *nux environment. Emulators are closer to specialized virtual machines whereas Wine in Linux is more akin to DirectX in Windows.

  • Comment removed

  • @MNWalkr really? wow thats something

  • Comment removed

  • @actionpackedPIVII What are you referring to? Make yourself clear.

  • I did a same thing to all my friends and they believed that, It was absolutely a funny thing

  • "yeah, that looks much easier" ...

  • i guess when it comes to design each of em has there own unique features.... what i noticed somehow is that if your like a game addict like me... i would prefer for you to have windows instead of other OS since that a lot of games are already supporting windows 7.

i also find the date of this video looks like its about 3 years ago... hey dude show us your updated video.... show us your desktop... and i guess for designs? HAH!.. check what my windows 7 ultimate 64-bit can do...

    click my name

  • @1208Silverize Linux 64bit runs crysis for me better than windows 7ultimate or enterprise. HAH!...

  • @nickrohn93 then good for you then... i wont argue with that... HAH!!

  • @nickrohn93 Somethings wrong with your computer then. Seriously you probably had a virus or something.

  • @stasismustbetheilles Uh no fresh install. Crysis does support opengl.

  • i hate ubuntu/mint because every time i try to compile something there's always a dependency out of date, and updates just goes on forever, same thing with debs not installing. my KDE4 is also buggy as hell, i stick with windows 7 since there's loads more software, no compiling and it sucks the least

  • I put Linux Mint 8 KDE onto my moms laptop once while we waited for a Sony recovery disc to be delivered and she loved it lol.

  • if u r an IT guy u wont find this video interesting

  • They would try to install any software they use on windows and it wouldnt work and they would go "oh shit! this sucks..."

  • @MetallicGecko That is sort of true but you get a whole range of free (mostly opensource) software on Ubuntu. For example GIMP is a very advanced image editor and Blender has many advanced 3d modeling features. Thunderbird and Firefox are good tools for the internet. Libre Office is very compatible with .docx most of the time and Microsoft Office 2007 can be installed through Play on Linux. And you can also use applications on the internet like Google Docs and Aviary.

  • @vediocamera lol i know. i use linux (#!)

  • I learned that people are hypocrites, and they would buy anything you tell them is new windows. But Linux? Thats lame for them becose its open source

  • It wonder what would have happened if someone who actually used Linux was interviewed and he identified it immediately.

  • looks like mac!

  • We could have a surprise factor, refer them to OpenSUSE.org!

  • it's nice people like KDE, but it's actually pathetic and sad how ignorant they are ... :(

  • @ssiso8 Amen brother.

  • australians like user friendly, something that can do anything with the push of a button because they can't multitask. that's why they like 7even :)

  • why don't some people go to every mall in America and show them KDE 4.6 and tell them that it's Windows 8, then at the end, tell them it's Linux, and then give them a flyer to download, and say that it's just like Windows, only better. Use OpenSUSE 11.4 to reveal Linux to them. AND MOST IMPORTANT, tell them that it's EASY!!!!!

  • If you tell the people that Linux is very good, but also very expensive, they would use it, really.

  • @bellicjr Yeah, people really think free is $h!7 because they always think Xpensive means quality. But no it isn't. Holy crap, I'm on Ubuntu and I love it so much that I want to puke straight into Bill's face.

  • @MegaKlund As far as that goes, if it's cheap, VERY reliable, and can be used in ways that Windows can't, then it's a killer app. LinuxCon 2011 anyone. And with free admission for people who have never heard of Linux before. We have to act like we actually care; e.g. if you like it donate $5, but if you don't donate $20 so that we can improve it. That sort of attitude is what we need. Be provocative! I'll post the plan as a Mediafire link soon. Cheers :)

    foranarchy@hotmail.com

  • @MegaKlund

OpenSUSE is a bit too hard to set up, though.

  • @Gipshaw Go with Linux Mint it is vary easy to set up

  • @fatheroftwins06

Mint is what I'm currently using. It's been really frustrating, though, because for some reason it's slow on my system. I plan on switching back to Ubuntu when 11.10 comes out.

  • @Gipshaw I rather stay away from Unity, I have been using PinguyOS I love it but it is not KDE friendly it uses Gnome 2 and I have tried Gnome 3 and I did not like it either. So I am looking at KDE and going to try it out, if It does not do what I want to do then I just move down the chain xfce would be next and so on until I find one that I like. I love Gnome 2 but with Gnome 3 coming out it's days are numbered so that is why I am looking around

  • @fatheroftwins06

I didn't like Unity at first myself, but with the updates they've made for 11.10 it seems much more appealing.

Have you tried Elementary OS? It's supposed to be really good, and I don't think they plan on using Gnome Shell or Unity.

  • @fatheroftwins06 If you want to stick with gnome 2 get Linux Mint 12 and install mint-meta-mate

Mate is a project to continue the development of gnome 2. Enjoy!!!!!

  • @MegaKlund

And then they get pissed and file a lawsuit when they find out their office apps don't work on it. It happened before when dell had linux as an option, some stupid bitch sued them because she "had" to drop out of college when she couldn't get MS word to work on it.

  • @codeythesilent wow, what a stupid girl

  • @vvvlladdd

No, not everybody knows about computers like we do. Don't call people stupid for reasons that foolish. Fact is, most people don't even know there's anything other than windows.

  • @codeythesilent fair enough

  • @codeythesilent Lmao, you called her a stupid bitch? And she does sound retarted and stuck up anways

  • Hope people learn from this, first impressions is everything.

but you never asked these people to install a tar.gz etc, if you did they would say its hard. I let a few people i know use linux and they all said the kde look is nice but they got frustrated when install or using command line.

Simple fix build a built in program to install .tar.gz like as if it was a .deb , this was the only format That i found people seem'd to be ok.

The key is making linux more simple and easy!

  • KDE 4.6 #FTW .

  • People just assume it's Windows 7, it looks like how it would have looked. ; ) Once they installed kde though they would be lost. But windows 7 from vista they would be fine. Just a prank.

  • @LiEnucksFAILS I saw two people in their 20's.

  • I bet, sense half of the features of KDE 4 was stolen by Windows 7, they still thought what they saw was Windows 7 beta.

  • @Tununias You're sad.

  • @Tununias this is nonsense KDE $ is older than Windows 7. The other way around is true.

  • @lucinos19 KDE 4 (I accidentally kept pushing the shift)

  • Hmm...be careful with all that. I smell lawsuit, false advertisement...

  • Could you say me that Amarok version, please?. I don't like me Amarok since version 2.x

  • @C1rp3Di3m Pardon, I'd want to say: Amarok doesn't like me since its version 2.x

    ...jeje...

  • i can tell you, my mom accidentally deleted windows from her computer (i don't even know how) , and i (a noob) put linux mint on it for the time being, she had a chance to get back windows and chose not to. she had absolutely no reason to go back to windows. she does have her games and office :D

i on the other hand put ubuntu on mine almost a year ago and hadn't had a problem since... i actually find windows to be quite slow in comparison :X i could be wrong...

  • Windows does not do glitches like 1:20

and, yeah I think it looks better than Windows 7, but it is NOT better, it's not just about how it looks, Windows has Office and has games, etc

Why can't u stop being stupid and be honest? Linux is not a real replacement for Windows for normal users although some people can adapt with it.

And I'm actually a linux (Fedora) heavy user, but I always have Windows 7 as a secondary OS, I NEED Windows, at least for its Office and games.

  • Hi!

OMG! so many comments and to few look nice enough on such a cute clip... :(

    That is kinda saddening...

aa... ok, kinda joking upstairs, there, but i just dropped by to say... hi as this month I celebrate my 11th year without MS (and CO) stuff on my computers. :D

Thanks Mr, Torvalds. You're the daddy! :D

BTW... I see 43 people dislike KDE... they must be Enlightenment, Wmaker or Gnome fans... yeeaahh... ;))

    Cheers!

  • I think it's mean to make people think that a pile of cunty shit is something else

  • se la tragaron toda.

  • You have a gap in your tooth

  • I hope those people told the other people that the OS is actually KDE 4 and not Windows 7.

  • I love Linux. I hate Windows and Macintosh. (I'm just exercising my freedom of hate)

  • The dialogue in here is sophisticated and elaborate as always , carried out by subtle minds in a battle of wit and intelligence.

Oh i love you youtube comment section for your thoughtful insights you give me every day.

  • @kunstsein Fack you

  • @nakedvolleyball well put indeed my good sir. cudos hehe

  • *sigh...

  • fuck win!!xDDDDD

  • THIER DUMBASSES HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA...

    FUCK WINDOWS..

  • im shocked not a single one said anything about the windows logo not on the start button

  • SPEAK UP NECKBEARD I CAN'T HEAR YOU.

  • Neckbeard needs a girlfriend.

  • Glad to see that there were no "OMG gaiz bill gate$ sT0L3 KDE4 and made it called Micr0$haft WinD0w$ Se7ven!!!!!!!1111111oneoneoneoneoneoneenoewenoenoanoenoe" comments.

  • @lapresi1 Stop spamming the comments.

    You want windows? Use it.

    You want Linux? Use it.

We're not forcing you. Now stop arguing.

Driver Support: Many more manufacturers are starting to release linux drivers, and now, since many devices are supported, you can usually just plug it in, and it'll work STRAIGHT AWAY.

Malware (viruses): Windows has viruses that are much more intrusive compared to linux.

On linux, viruses are normally COMPLETELY the users fault for running it.

  • Pointless video, but funny. Everyone should use what people are comfortable with, if you like Linux, then good, if you like Windows, then use windows

  • "It´s realy easy to use" yes I think so :-) Guys could tell them something like:"Thats Linux...and it´s for free" I´d pay for their faces :-)

  • Soon the FOSS talkes over the world!

People will be payed only for real input!

Updating and staying top secure will cost nothing! No need for antivirus ever!

All application will become a chance to never outdate so long they are needed!

There will be none patent or copyright issues anymore!

Open standards will allow everyone to collaborate!

Poor children will have same access to technology as rich children! And they will never fight!

    For free opensource capitalistic society!!

  • Hehe, the judgement day of MustDie comes closer and closer!

  • those people dumb u shouldve noticed the difference when they viewed the 'Office'

  • @gonzo191 They aren't dumb they just haven't seen much of Linux before, How are they supposed to notice the difference of software they haven't seen.

  • @MrDaziam

    Is that a trick question?

  • @MrDaziam There is no Microsoft or Windows logo on it :P

  • Hail, Linux dorks!

  • From my point of view. They took a laptop around with Linux and KDE4 then found a bunch of suckers on the street who look like they are afraid to use a computer.... That doesn't prove that it's about branding, it just proves that they found a bunch of people who know nothing about computers.

  • @Magnuspire Like most people understand computers. Seriously have you ever been to a computer retailer and heard what people ask? They can't even tell the difference between a bit and a byte, nor do they care

  • @vargulf19 That's my point. All they did was walk around and sell it as windows 7. Now, I want to see the out takes.. Where are all the videos of the people who knew better? When you see an advertisement on TV that says 4 out of 5 Doctors say this... You automatically think... Well... that's too good to be true. These guys are making it look like 100% of computer users automatically think that because it's windows it's got to be good. It may have sold you guys on the idea but to me it's BS.

  • @vargulf19 Second post... because I put way too many ..... s in that last one. Don't get me wrong, I love Linux to death. I hate KDE though... I never could get in to it.. I prefer Gnome and I can't wait to see how Gnome 3 turns out. IMO Ubuntu is the best distro around... Linux Mint is great for new comers but that's about all I would recommend it to.

  • @Magnuspire KDE isn't all that bad, Gnome is good. Really it all boils down to what you want to use it for. Fedora and SUSE aren't that bad.

  • So you'd rather have a celeron and 512MB of RAM.

    I see. Makes perfect sense.

  • @TheUberDeity Stfu, you are fucking gay

  • @gorillekitue

That's exactly the sort of response I'd expect from a 12 year old boy.

  • @TheUberDeity, gorillekitue has a point, you obviously never used Linux or at least have gotten used to it. I have been using Windows up until about 2008 and then I switched to Linux, I've used Windows for most of my life and Linux for only two years and after those two years of freedom, I've never felt the urge to switch back to Windows EVER. I also never intend on buying any Windows OS for myself every again in the future.

  • @kurtbruneau

Pfffffft!! Ridiculous!! I've been using and hacking Linux for 15 years, my friend. When you can merge an A and B into a mainline in Linux, then we'll talk, Ok? If you think Linux equals "freedom," then you're out of your mind. I associate it more with "poverty."

  • @TheUberDeity Alright then, you can deal with Windows, I honestly don't care at all what you do with your OS as long as it doesn't effect me. You really need to take a chill pill though, your like the Hitler of OS's.

And your 31!? by your attitude I would have thought you were 10.

  • @kurtbruneau

If I deemed your opinion of any microscopic sliver of importance, then I'm sure I'd be semi-broken up by now. Or haven't you figured out that what drives me here is the sheer amusement of seeing just narrow-minded and dead-ended some people truly are?

Like the guy who claims Linux driver support is unbeatable, or the Macbook Pro is the most powerful laptop in the world.

See what I'm getting at? :) I don't sugarcoat things, that's the difference between you and me, creampuff.

  • @kurtbruneau Dont talk to UberDeity! He is a world-class asshat Troll. Ignore his stupidity, just use what you find better for everyone! Simple! And no ÜberScheisse, I dont need your reply!

  • I wish I knew their opinion after they found out it was linux. I want to try this near my house.

  • GNOME ftw!

  • @nieknooijens

So says the guy who's commenting about watching gaki no tsukai after getting the biggest YouTube beat-down of his life.

  • @TheUberDeity please watch this video, it said enough, the people in the video saw linux and they didn't say it was rubbish, some even said "easier to use"

if they said straight away it wasn't windows, people would be scared and won't take a look at it in the first place, that's the problem, not your stupid comments that linux sucks. it's the way people think that sucks, not linux itself.

  • @nieknooijens it's not i can't afford it, but i hate paying for something that isn't what i'm looking for. it's the same as paying for a dirty toilet, you don't do that either!!

  • I love it when little kids lose arguments, so they start throwing out random figures and numbers with zero proof in an attempt to scrape their meager credibility off the asphalt :) It really is entertaining.

  • so, did they know that is KDE in the end ?

  • I use Windows because is easy. I want to install something and I am just clicking on the icon. I don't need to open interactive shell write codes to in blah blah blah. I bough windows 7 original, I am not having any problems with it. I've tried Ubuntu and fedora they are nice but I just can't addapt to linux and I can't find something you can do in linux that you can't in windows. The only bad thing about windows is that you have to pay for it which people don't want to..

  • @StanevDotCoUk

Ubuntu is a joke. On a fresh install, I rebooted for the first time and WHAM!!! Crash.

Meanwhile, I've been using Windows primarily for years and the last crash I had was back in 2003. The only people who have problems with Windows are those that don't know how to set it up and configure it properly. The guys who whine the most are the ones that leave 18,000 icons on their desktop with a cluttered start menu and delete programs instead of uninstalling them.

  • But no one does that (well almost) because linux has liike 3% of the OS share so it's pointless. Linux is great on servers but it is not yet ready for desktops. I'm not babling about windows beeing the one and only true OS. But it is better suited for desktop than linux. I have a few laptops here and on every single one something got screwed up under linux. The GUI maybe great but fixing shit in it is not something avg user is capable of.

  • @RhavoX Average users can't v even fix windows problems, blah, gonna go get some rest now. I'l PM you tomorrow or something like that if you want to discuss it more.

  • One last comment about the end part of the movie. People said it's easy to use and that they would like it at their pc's. And as I said the interface may be easy. But on linux when something doesn't work or when it fu$% up then things can get really strange really quck ;] My grandma wouldn't configure XOrg to finally detect my monitor's goddamn native resolution that's for sure

  • people don't want to spend their weekends tweaking the goddamn wifi to work already. It may look nice but it's not close to windows when talking about proper harware handling

  • It is funny where there is no "windows" logo, people still claim that it is windows...

  • It's very easy to use!

  • 60 70 % of games runs on linux with wine, cedega, crossover games etc

i use windows7 but i go migrate to ubuntu :)

  • LOL! I'll use that to make my mom switch to Linux. She thinks that Windows is the computer, and that IE is the internet. Lot's of Windows users do, apparently...

But the final proove that it doesn't have to be a good, quality product - as long as it is followed by a trillion dollars in advertising campaigns, they'll buy everything you put in front of them.

  • I thing i immensely dislike about KDE is how plasma slows everything down.

  • I am a linux fan, but I can't say I like KDE that much. I find it pretty difficult to navigate and some how it always seems to tax my PC no matter how powerful it is. I'll stick with GNOME.

  • @pongfonge

I agree with you to a point.

I used to love KDE, and Mandrake, but from about MDK10, I started to look for a better source and ended up with Kubuntu.

I then moved over to ubuntu because KDE 4 is not at all for me.

Recently however, I have been starting to like it in some ways.

Im now on Kubuntu 10.4 on my main box and so far we have not been argueing too much...

  • Linux is future. Linux is friendly for designers, scientists etc. Long live linux :)

  • Linux is easier than windows.

    Linux is faster than windows.

    Linux is safer than windows.

Anyone who disagrees, is just because didn't try to use Linux. And by trying, i mean really try. Even i had my ups and downs, and had to find the right Distro for me, which is Mint. Is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy easier and faster than windows.

And if anyone really thinks about it, Linux is the biggest market out there. Cause Linux is free, and is compatible with all platforms...

    NO EXCUSE!!!

  • the vista was a bit hard for me.

  • WIndows 7, easily. Linux on the desktop? LOL.

  • stupid Americans

  • @psyjunta

Well I don't use pirated software, being a programmer myself and knowing how much work writing software is. There are a few nice open source music tools, but nothing that is really professional imho. Actually, I wouldn't even recommend Linux for commercial music production, but i wouldn't recommend Windows either.

For commercial music production I would actually recommend a Mac.

  • @alizta Lots of companies that know what they are doing use GNU/Linux. Even Apple uses GNU's Compiler Collection in their development kit, something that you use every time you create a program. Nothing really professional, eh?

  • @psyjunta "Support is one phone call away" is a really funny statement. You should put it to the test. Microsofts free support is basically worthless, a real support ticket costs $200 iirc, the music software I bought (i don't want to name them here) had "issues" - they ignored my mail, then i waited 15 minutes on the phone (at a nice charge per minute) then they took my request into their support ticketing system (which i think was a lie) and then never got back to me.

  • Ahaha... :D

I was saw this video... It's amazing this people xD

  • haahah i was hoping somebody would say "thats bloody linux" :D

  • @psyjunta by using windows software you get locked out of the freaking source code. this is indeed to hard to understand for the average user but linux isnt any harder. of course you have to get used to it but you also have to get used to a new keyboard and mouse, does that mean the old shitty things are better because you are used to it?

  • lol we Win!

  • I have both, Linux and Windows installed. Linux because it's my OS of choice and Windows for games.

  • The only reason I use windows is for gaming. Everything else is good old Ubuntu. When Valve finally decides to bring steam to linux, then I will dump Windows once and for all! Also fuck mac

  • OMG ! extrem lol

  • You can't replace Windows with KDE. KDE is only a desktop environment, not an OS

  • I remember this. It was so hilarious. Everyone LOVED it, and didn't even know it was Linux. That proves that KDE/Gnome is actually user friendly.

  • I think if computers as a car. If you buy one, you will have to learn on how to fix it and how to make it better. Windows is like a brand new car with lots of friendly stuff, but if it brokens you cant legaly fix it by yourself and if it stops working you have to buy a new one.. in linux you get everything for free + you can modify any program you want changing the source code, you can easy get software even in terminal.. and if you break it its because you suk so you shouldnt b using a computer

  • Chakra distrolet FTW

  • if they came to me my reaction would be WTF that looks like a broken bag of shit, like linux.

  • Great video!! Linux ftw

  • My favorite Linux-Edition is openSuSE

  • fantastic :)

  • WOW! Grayt idea to do that! But KDE 4 rocks really, thinking to change from Gnome!

  • 1:26 "That looks grayt!"

  • kde 4 is the vista of linux distros. i can't go 5 minutes without getting really sad. it's very buggy.

  • I remember people predicting in 2001 that

linux will outpace winblows in 2008 and not much changed since then because the opensource concept has obvioulsy fundamental errors.

I know i will get thumbs down but Linux IS anarchy which miraculuosly works to some extent but it will never reach the masses.

  • @cr561979 yeah, i prefer bugs, long waiting time and trowing away money for a shitty OS

  • @deathsmileyinc

By "anarchy" i mean for example, why is it that nearly every open-source programm also exists for Mac and Win ? I'm asking this because Microsoft is attacking the community wherever they can by sponsoring software company's NOT to embrace Linux and subsequently stifle any real progress at its roots.

There is clearly no strategy or incentive to attract new Linux-users thats why the whole thing will linger for ever in vain.

  • @cr561979 the difference between anarchy and opensource is: in a real life anarchy society there always will be people that are going to exploit the situation and take the power to become the leader (so it wouldnt be anarchy anymore).

a lot of people want to take power of linux, some people would think this would be better but it isnt, a bug in linux can be fixed in 24h because the developers are all over the world(all the timezones) a bug in windows might take a week ore more to fix it.

I agree with you that "open" is the way to go.

But I'd like to remind that Linux gained most of its popularity by consolidating forces when Mark Shuttleworth came around as a "Project leader".

Needless to say that he spent an insane amount of money sponsoring Ubuntu.

(Besides others like RHEL or SUSE)

This alone tells me that professional (paid) coordination has an enormous and rewarding impact on the so called "Free as in Beer" concept.

Briefly, there must/should b some revenue.

  • @cr561979 ok, i dindt know about that, but i do know how i was convinced to use linux, my uncle used it, he told my dad and a lot of other persons about it, my dad installed linux on a new bought pc, in the first place i was sceptic about it, but after a little while i installed in my netbook (with dualboot) i still used windows moire than linux but when i was infected with a virus on windows i decided to switch, know ive convinced a lot of friends ti use linux.

  • @cr561979 : Actually a Linux system is so much less 'anarchic' than Winblows is so many ways it's hard to know where to start. The user-friendliness of Windows is what kept people away from free software in the past. Those days are coming to an end. In fact, if you try something like Ubuntu you'll see they're over.

Linux couldn't catch up in almost 20 years of existence. What makes you so sure it will succeed now ? Microsoft is developing it's "Midori" concept which will replace windows.Linux lacks innovation at the basic level.

Its 2010 and Ubuntu doesn't have even a searchable menu which Vista had 4 years ago

Of course you may use KDE,which isn't actually a desktop but more like an accumulation of "sigsev" crashes ready to add to the gazillion of Bugs waiting to be resolved in the next IceAge.

  • @cr561979 Mate, it's horses for courses. If you're happy with Windows, stick with
