saw audioslave first ever london gig ,he could certainly sing live then ,wonder what happend ,haha ,sorry who is better ,paul rodgers, terry reid ,john fogerty ,steve marriot, eddie vedder, maybe as good not better
Why do people think this song is so great because of Chris, the reason its so hauntingly chilling is because of 1oct+ harmoniser effect on Tom's Digitech Whammy pedal. Do not get me wrong Chris is a great singer, but he does very little for this song (In theory I think someone with a more feminine voice would do a better job), and considering he became a dictator over the bands music I don't see why he gets most of the credit but that's just my opinion, doesn't mean I don't like audioslave
@nathand612 Sorry, I wasn't trying to be an arse, just the previous comments, kissing chris' arse annoyed me so I ranted a little. Tom Morello said, that the band was so us to saying "Fuck you, i won't do what you tell me" and yet when Chris came along they when being told what to play and no one protested. Chris wasn't a bad band member, he just didn't want to play Progressive activist music, and the break up was just a time to end it sort of thing. Dictator was a harsh word, but I was ranting.
@OllieHikaru how can you say chris doesnt do anything for the song? show me someone else that can drag them notes along so wonderfully. Shut the fuck up you RATM fan. you all act the same about audioslave.
@nic3652 Go suck Chris Cornell's Balls, He sucks Live and if you cant sing live your not a good singer. Jack White, James Brown Tom Morello Himself can sing better, john frusciante, Josh Klinghoffer, Anthony Kiedis. Just a few examples of singers who are better, can sing live and have more stage presence. And without RATM there would be no Audioslave, so you can Shut the fuck up you Ignorant piece of shit
@OllieHikaru i much prefer audioslave to ratm. If you think they are such crap whay are you on this page listening? i think your just trolling and am disappointed that i dignified you with a response.
@BlackenedIdol I hate the amount of respect that chris cornell Gets for such little work, He's not a great singer, studio he is ok, live he is terrible. I'm not saying Zach is better, although his lyrics were. Chris took an activist progressive rock band and turned it into a rock pop band, I like Audioslave as it is still 3/4 Musical talent, But Chris' voice needs to remain with Soundgarden, there it worked.
the word amazing doesn't even begin to describe the vibe of this song. Had insane chills down my whole body every time I heard the bass guitar. Absolutely incredible song.
Could anyone imagine the freedom you would feel if the sun wasn't ever gonna rise again...I'm not talking about not giving a shit and looting any place that hasn't been burned down, I mean realizing that you're a dead man walking; you have no more responsibilities, you can spend the rest of your life with the ones you love, and after that, your worries are over...
I hear elements pulled from psychedelic music. A bit of classic R&B also. But then again Cornell's vocal style is R&B in nature seeing as how he cites them as his main vocal influence.
When I say R&B, I mean classic artists like Chuck Berry (know he's Rock N Roll, but when he started out he was labeled R&B), Little Richard, Ray Charles, etc.
This is just a beautifully haunting song. When I hear it I imagine a guy standing on the hill, knowing tomorrow will be doomsday. He watches the sun slowly sink, knowing it will never rise again, savouring the last remaining light.
Lame. What the other guy said was meaningful. And if you KNOW that it's the end, I think it would be a better end to someone's life to take it respectably, and face it with honor. Sometimes, you just realize that there isn't any hope, and if there isn't any, it should come peacefully, go quietly, you know?
Once again, if you KNOOOOOOW, notice the word there, KNOW that there is no hope, I.E you see a nuclear bomb falling from the sky directly on your head, then no, I would not even try. And not that I would give up, I would just want my last minutes to be meaningful to me, not senseless running around in a panicked confusion. After all, what would you even try? Go in the cellar? The cellar which is about to not exist anymore? Right. And nice grammar, jackass.
I would try to do something meaningful rather than simply give up, and attempt to validate my existence so I could at least die knowing I did SOMETHING, unlike you, you selfish prick.
This song is just...it's just...wow no words. I thought like a stone was as good as it got but this is just sublime. Just one amazing song. I miss audioslave. I grew up knowing them, not RATM. They were a great band, I'm sick of people saying they suck and RATM was better. RATM is great no doubt, but its just the sheer depth of chris cornell which makes you love it.
fuck twilight! holy shit! my favorite bands are always linked to fucking twilight, a franchise famous just for being a franchise. not good people, please.
I have the demo on my computer from before the album came out. This IS the demo. The way he delivers certain lines, the inflections he uses is completely different and his voice doesn't have much reverb on it. As the poster JoeSidhu indicated.
This is one of the best songs I have ever heard. I truley mean that. The dread, soul, the message, the metaphores, the images, the sound, the voice, it's all amazing.
yeah i cant get over this song or any other of there songs off there first album i wish they whould get back 2gether and tour even if they dont make new music i whould love 2 see them live i saw cornel live in regina sask last year
I could totally see this song playing during a horror movie trailer. I hope it doesn't though cuz most horror movies suck and Audioslave is pure gold.
It maybe eerie to some, but to me its just one of those psychedlic tunes that alot of rock bands played during the 70's. Thats what I love about audioslave and Chris. they're onme of the few groups that still sing those kinda songs. Shadow of the sun is another one of my favorites and remember black hole sun? I love it..
Some of Cornell's most psychedelic and complex music is on Euphoria Morning.
It's also a tribute to Jeff Buckley.
The vocals are some of the best he ever produced. Not better than Soundgarden in terms of power, but he sings more than he belts. But when he belts, it's Soundgarden in your face.
Not with the first Audioslave album. Still a pretty strong voice but you can hear the deterioration starting to set in.
Wow, I did not know this song was a tribute to Jeff Buckley! :O Man, that is really cool! Jeff Buckley is one of my favorite singers, and so is Chris Cornell. ^^ That really is pretty wicked. R.I.P, Jeff. :(
Yeah, it's a different version than the studio album. For their debut album, you can find duplicate versions of every song, plus a few extra jams.
I'm not 100% sure on the reason, but I think they recorded a completely different version of the album under the name "Citizen," and then scrapped it. Check LimeWire and instead of searching Audioslave, search Citizen and you'll find alt versions for every track off the debut. My favorite alt version is Getaway Car. Awesome!
THIS IS THE BEST FUCKING SONG IN THE WORLD! i go CRAZY at the end when they freak out on the guitar and the uuuuuuuuuuuu i cant explain it lol this song is underrated

This song is pretty good, one of audioslaves best slower songs. although my favorite slow song and all time song by audioslave is I am the highway.
If any of you have listened to Soundgarden (cornels band before audioslave) they are way better, if your into a little heavier shit.
