The stuff on the side is slip, liquid clay dipped in newspaper. I would be a little concerned about cone 4 clay with this method because as you can see we went past 2000 F. degrees and you would be at the top of the range for cone 4 but give it a try first with something that you did not spend weeks and weeks creating.
