Well, I'm young... I am only 12 i am just looking for some averge music equipment. Will any mic work or do they needd to be specifc a specific type? Also would you recomend pro tools or presonus studio one? I want to make videos with my music so can either of them make videos? If not do you know any video editing software suggestions?
@MichaelSchusterMusic Great questions Michael. I'll get right to it - Shure SM57 is your best friend! Get a couple of those. Any mic kit will work, you'll want a decent interface, preferably a firewire instead of USB (I use the PreSonus Firestuduio Project) that has at least 8 XLR inputs. For software you can use PreSonus because it is cheaper and less resource needy than Pro Tools and you can import video directly into PreSonus. I also recommend Cakewalk Sonar 8 or X1 - both are excellent.
@MichaelSchusterMusic No problem. If you are looking for just a video production I highly recommend Sony Vegas. It is powerful and you can edit audio in it with Sony Sound Forge. Also, if you like the Adobe Creative Suite you can't go wrong with Premiere Pro, After Effects and all of the other programs in the CS that integrate seamlessly into a very powerful audio/video editing tool. Let me know how you make out and good luck!
@MichaelSchusterMusic I mic everything but the hi-hat and that is picked up from the OHs. In these videos I was using a cheaper CAD drum mic kit. The tom mics were not really that good - they weren't bad, just not very good. I have since purchased the Audix Fusion FP5 mic kit and the quality is worlds better. I still use the same OHs which are Samson CO2s.
