  • Pedal steel at 1:25... AWESOME!!!!

  • fuckin work analog effect!!!!

  • On a cloudy day,the sun came out of nowhere when i started playing this O_O

  • Absolutely stunning. This gave me chills up and down my spine! What amazes me more than Gilmours' raw talent and tone is the ignorant, self-serving, stuck up comments some people are making about modern music. Why would you soil the good nature of this video with biased, hate-filled comments? You're not witty, or funny, or edgy. We've all heard it before so just get over yourself and go write a blog about it. Goodness.

  • Apparently Roger clicked the dislike button.

  • @hrspwr Even Roger knows sheer teh awesomess when he hears it.!!!

  • @hrspwr hahah, too funny:)

  • @hrspwr that cracked me up...hahahahahahahahahahaha

  • just amazing!!!

  • I love you Daveeeee!!!

  • what a genius!

  • i'd trade my nikes for his pedal boards straight up anyday

  • but playing fast doesn't make you good to begin with though

  • sounds like a sea

  • this pedal steel guitar playing was orgasm for my ears!

  • When you play a million notes per second if you miss one nobody will notice. Miss a note playing this gem and you're screwed.

  • @mtsn I guess that would make players like this ten times as hardcore then, being all risky and whatnot lol

  • Who is that completely idiot that dislike this perfection?!

  • @sime74 Mr. Waters

  • He can play with one note, what Jimi plays in 200, and I love that. The fact of the matter is, they both are gods, and it proves that feeling regardless of technical ability is MINT.

  • when i think of a good guitar player i don't picture an extremely fast player. it seems thats all people think about when they imagine a talented guitar player

  • That is so freakin cool

  • Its awesome to think of how much history there is with this man, but also theres alot of history in that guitar! Hes had it since 1970, and used it live ever since then. Theres even been a book written about it.

  • He is something else...amazing guitarist!

  • oh my god i wanna be able to play that lap guitar thing at the end he was playing sooo bad. its so trippy and cool

  • @freddiebarry93 that's a steel guitar and yeah they are pretty much AWESOME!!!

  • Dark Side Of The Moon will be my album of choice while I go to sleep tonight. Unreal

  • no more hiwatt?

  • And on seventh day god made david Gilmour and Richard wright, then he took a break...... along one cause, two mariacles in one day? that's alot

  • @guitarheroguy5 On the first day, man created God.

  • Where are guitarist like this today? What happend to the music!!!!!

  • Saw the band several times, amazing concerts for anyone that had the privilege of seeing them. 1960-late 80's, wow what can one say? Musically, probably the most creative time for bands and experimentation ever. We all may be getting old, but it sure was a gas to live it in real time!!!!!

  • @SuperBlancher i envy you man !!! it must of been absolutely just awesome would of love to of been their with ya sitting in the atmosphere with a pint just simply beautifal keep rocking :D

  • god...what an ear..

  • what is this clip from? like from what documentary or movie?

  • @shakagnar

It's from the documentary "The Making of The Dark Side of the Moon". It's available on dvd.

  • @Jaymz1265 Conveniently I'm not one to argue either, although I probably could. To each there own I suppose. Just know that I am a "plastic hollywood" fan, thoroughly enjoying a David Gilmore video. Then again I am only an 18 year old girl so I never lived through Pink Floyd :| Oh and Biebers from Canada :)

  • Simple :-/

  • so simple yet so profound in its artistry....this is true genius

  • Roger Waters was an egotistical asshole who completely held the groups future and artistic design by the balls.

The Wall cant even be called a Floyd album, more like The Roger Waters Experiment with Friends.

  • @wakawl That's fine with me considering David Gilmour produced Animals by himself and I like that album more then the Wall. Although it is kind of rediculous how the whole band broke up because of Roger and David and I don't get why David got the Pink Floyd name considering David wasn't even there at the beginning. Oh well I think we can all agree Meddle was the best Roger/David album and Syd Barret(spelling?) was just a plain fucking genious.

  • I wanna live in one of his amps

  • mortal end maybe. but some bands will never die

  • i person doesent breath

  • fast guitar players are overrated

  • He may not be the fastest guitar player on earth, but he feels the song and plays with real emotions.

  • @yuiotred2 speed is overrated!!!

  • @yuiotred2 emotions aren't even real, just a figment of your imagination. You failed to mention that he's a phenomenal player aswell. speed has nothing to do with guitar playing unless you play some form of metal/rock.

  • @SatanicTHC Virtuosity is in every genre.

  • @yuiotred2 You say that like playing fast guitar is necessarily a good thing. In my opinion, guitar players like Michel Angelo Batio develop their technique so much because they are incapable of writing a decent piece of music. Anyone can play complex guitar parts with practice, but simplicity is the work of true creativity.

  • @fakethat93 I agree 100% with what you say. An important part of guitar playing is to understand you dont need to play a note, spaces and timing give the music depth

  • Can anyone tell me where this clip is from? I don't see it on the "making of" Classic Album broadcast. There is a part of this clip, but not in it's entirety like this particular one. Thanks :)

  • @oStarStuff There is DVD version with bonus material.

  • Ahhh this makes me never want to give up on guitar. Who could honestly dislike this... Roger Waters perhaps?

  • Tone God

  • Stupendo!

  • Tremendous!

I've met PF 35 years ago, but only recently I discovered how some of the sounds were produced (its the same with the Relayer album from Yes...).

    Great guies, lovely classical music!

  • Went to a music store to check out some gear, and in the store was this guy who was buying a guitar and testing it and he played this exact tune!

  • The one guy who didn't like this has hearing problems

  • can anyone guess a thickness on those strings?

  • @Voiderify He uses a custom gage of ghs boomers, cant remember the gages off the top of my head but they were very close to mediums

  • @Voiderify I heard that he uses gauge 10 Ernie Balls.

  • @ShortFingeredShreder why wouldnt he use his signature boomers from GHS?

  • GHS signature are very very good!!! Using in my strat with EMG Gilmour, very good too !!!

  • I think he use his GHS signature 10-48 in strat and 10.5-50 in his Gibson

  • its a cream dream

  • AWESOME......... just awesome.

  • damn this guy is just amazin

  • he's got a luvley luvley pair of tits on him! if he'd just flash them about a bit it would get all the horny viewers in....

  • Seria posible poner subtitulos a los videos donde ellos conversan?Pues yo no entiendo ingles me encanta You Tube y David Gilmour.Mil gracias.

  • I LOVE IT

  • what a master.

  • @taylorrain2009 but a monkey couldn't write it you fool

  • @taylorrain2009 I doesn't take a monkey to tell that you are ignorant and clearly don't appreciate music.

  • @taylorrain2009 Yes, you are the only one, and I'm sorry to say that you are maybe a monkey, too.

  • 1:28 ..... hhmmmmmm......

  • WOW congratulation! this is first video where's not any comment with hip hop or justin bieber it's good to see that 14 years old kids just enjoy music and stop fighting with fucking commercial music

  • @krystpan And then you show up.

  • @bajsbajsbajsify shit happens

  • This is why Dark side of the moon is still hailed as one of the best (if not -the best-) albums in the world. Amazing musicianship mixed with ingenious production.

  • His pedal setup looks like a train set. Incredible that David can remember everything. It's amazing what can be done with a nice collared shirt and a tasteful jumper.

  • ever get chills down your spine when you hear this song...yep, just happened to me

  • @rch1407 right now or do i mean just then lol

  • Pure Genius

  • Muito bom esse vídeo!

Um dos mais legais q já ví!

  • the man is deadly mind blowing

  • 8===D thats all i got to say

  • if god came down from heaven and played the guitar..he would listen to davey g and go and look for some drumsticks.....you dig?

  • this was so good my left ear just started ringing

  • @helmsdeep48 Get it checked out.

  • the fender pedal steel wants to emit a peculiar american country crying sound that gilmour was able to,quite cleverly, damp down completely on the album.

  • Great chord changes in that tune! Awesome player.

  • What tuning does he use on the pedal steel?

  • very nice

  • i want to be this man

  • his tone is ridiculous!

  • He knows a guitar better than I know my name

  • He knows a guitar better than I know my name

  • mamma mia....the master...

  • a little bit of light from the mind of a genius

  • maximum beautiful

  • music these days dont even come close to what he can jam out of his brain on any given day

  • he's great and all, but what do you want when your fucking rich? you can get the best sound anyday.

  • @66vapor66

Not entirely true. He could sound great with a ukelele plus he has always sounded great, well before Floyd made it big.

  • @AngusShanks Im not denying the fact that he's a freaking genius, all i'm saying is that its not hard to get a great tone when you have acces to such equipment.

  • @66vapor66

True, but he'd have great tone without it is what I'm saying. If I had his stuff I'd have BETTER tone than I have now but I'd never sound like him with his equipment either. He was once asked why he likes Strats so much and he said it's a guitar where the player's personality comes out moreso than when a player uses a LP or humbuckers.

  • who the fuck is the one malfunctioning maggot who disliked this!?

  • @xXBuccinOXx

I dunno but I say we string him up and slice his balls open. Probably a shredder lover.

  • @AngusShanks xD

  • @AngusShanks I'll help ya guys if you need help... ;)

  • David Gilmour! A true gentlemen. Quintessential English vigor. Not american sugar coated pink glossy trash. No offense.

  • I've come to the depressing realization; all of my heroes are succombing to their

mortal end.. and now the replacements are Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber, Lil Wayne..etc..

how sad. how tragic. how embarrassing.

  • @StingChameleonREMIX Lady Gaga is just a madonna for people who don't know music history.

  • @StingChameleonREMIX every generation said that. old people in the 70s said that about rock bands, including pink floyd. who cares, live and let live.

  • @theflatearthsociety No, i wont live and let live. Mainstream music has become absolutely stupid, and I'm not complacent like you are. So, I take a proactive stance.

  • @StingChameleonREMIX There are still great young musicians out there, but sadly most are confined to the basement or garage or the bars. Everything is way too money oriented even more so now than ever. Knopfler, Gilmour, Clapton to name a few are aging as you had written. Gary Moore, SRV R.I.P. People complain about John Mayer but at least at his concerts he tries to keep a lot of this music alive. Where else can you hear a ripping version of Voodoo Chile in a stadium?

  • @StingChameleonREMIX Hey man, it's true, but music changes with the times, right? Doesn't mean Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Lil' Wayne aren't good and when they're gone people (new and old) will remember them as greats too.

  • @littleYOmama I have to disagree. I'm not one to argue, but when the plastic people of Hollywood writes something as good as Dark Side of the Moon, only then will they be remembered as "greats"

  • @StingChameleonREMIX hey dont blame my generation, blame the media ==. btw im sure there will always be new guitar hero's.

  • @StingChameleonREMIX Don't give up hope!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @StingChameleonREMIX fear not! There are some bands that are new and still growing... Airborne, mumford and sons, the stanfields

  • Comment removed

  • @StingChameleonREMIX I don't know about you, but I'm from the states and so are Justin Beiber and Lady Ga ga. Never will they replace the Floyd, Zeppelin, Beatles or Clapton. It really is embarrassing that these people are the best we can turn out. I'm not just saying that, it really is embarrassing.

  • @StingChameleonREMIX thnx 4 that,im gonna cry myself to sleep now :/

  • @StingChameleonREMIX i feel your pain bro

  • STRAT-MASTER! Thank you David for your music!

  • David Gilmour... What else ? The best...

  • Paltool1111,you may have been conceived after a Pink Floyd concert, asked your parents.

  • look at the sound!! amazing!!!

comprossor and chorus ?? and ??

  • I believe David only used a Univibe effect on the opening part.

  • Coolest grandpa ever!

  • @jpnarino

imagine his grandkids bringin him in for show-n-tell

  • @MrQuijaRICK HAHA! That would be awsome: ''This is a guitar player...'' xD

  • the real magic in gilmour playing is the simplicity and melodic . he playes slow and precisely. the slide part is very simple but what an opennig for an album

  • for me this blows all that shreding stuff outta the water!! awesome piece!! GILMOUR IS GOD

  • Awesome

  • I was at the 1973 Dark Side concert in Pittsburgh anyone else?

  • i was born 1973 and this blows me away that they created this so long ago

  • THE MASTER !!!!!!!

  • Classic albums -Pink Floyd - Dark side of the Moon

  • is that a uni-vibe efect or something else?

  • Univibe i reckon

  • He used a Leslie speaker on the record, but a uni-vibe live. I get the same sort of sound with a phase 90. It's good enough for me,

  • real magic

  • i have the DVD but this part is not in there??

    FAIL!!

somebody cant help on wich part is it??

on the Brathe Chapter is not this part...!

  • There should be a section called "Gilmour's Guitars" in the bonus material.

  • Whats the dvd called?

  • I Love this one

  • That fu**n' table guitar can make me travel million miles away.....

  • good very good

  • GOD

  • What is he playing between 0:30 and 0:31/2

  • Hello,

Can someone give me the excat tab / chords for what he plays. The net is full with all sorts of versions but I am not sure to have seen this one.

    Thanks

  • It's amazing to see David play this. It's one thing to hear it on the album, but to see him effortlessly recreate the same tracks, note for note, beat for beat, is truly something special. When it comes to playing truly emotive music, there is no one better than David Gilmour. Five stars.

  • You said exactly what I was thinking! He doesn't need studio editing to sound great! Best guitarest ever!

  • what I find even bigger, is that you dotn take close attention to this kind of rythm playing while listening to the song, cause there's singing, keyboard layers, drums etc... but when taken alone that's when you realise how great it is just by itself... I found the same thing on the web with " wating for the worms", the dude took the 5.1 dvd track and isolated david guitar at the end of the song and it's just incredible, though totally lost in the final mix

  • @NoQuattro well said.

  • @NoQuattro well said

  • that tweed amp on the floor, is that a blues deluxe/deville?

  • twin

  • This is my favorite song ever! thank you

  • I remember seeing this on here before, but when I tried looking recently I was unable to find it. Thanks for uploading!! I love this DVD! The Breathe riff is one of my favourites ever.
