It's not an illusion though.

An illusion is if you see something that isn't there because of some quirk in the picture. In thise case it's your eyes adjusting to the colour and the negative of the picture. It's pretty cool, but it's just your eyes not being able to quickly adjust enough.

I'm just beginning to realize something. If you stare at something with two colours, like this picture, then close your eyes, the image you see whilst your eyes are closed has the inverse colours. This has something to do with the way this illusion works. The castle is blue, but then, probably for the same reason, the colours inverse and the sky becomes blue. Try staring at the dot and then close your eyes. You'll see the colours inverse. It's tricky to see, but keep trying.
