You know I've seen all of Shinkai's works from She and Her Cat to 5 Centimeters per Second...but the one that is really enjoying for me to watch is The Place Promised in Our Early Days. I guess it's because of the world that Shinkai created and the wonderful story and theme of distance.

5 Centimeters felt a lot more deep and artistic to me. Not so much of an adventure as it was a waiting for hope game with Touno. We truly realize what he's going through.

After seeing the trailer i believe this movie looks like Ghibli art and script. It has Hayao Miyazaki wannabe written all over it. Makoto Shinkai's magic touch is kinda wasted in this.

『星を追う子供』、観てきました。 キャラクターはあえて名作劇場シリーズに似せたらしいです。 また劇中描写としては、食事に力を入れている点、風や天候による­主人公達の心理表現などが劇中シーンのほうがより何かに似ている­と思われる理由でしょうか。 （後者の点はもとより新海誠作品に見られますが、キャラの見た目­がアレだけに余計・・・） 個人的な見解ですが内容に関しては、新海誠らしさが出ていました­。 ファンタジーなのにキャラの思考などがすこし、すこし生々しいな­、と（笑） なので観る人はそこに魅力を感じるか、違和感を感じるかにわかれ­るのかなと思います。 ジュブナイルに関しては以前の作品より多少印象が薄いかもしれま­せん。 しかし私はストーリー、そして何より王道ファンタジー＋新海誠の­化学反応にとても満足しています。 あと、予告映像で流れた以外のシーンで心に残ることが多かったで­す（笑） 予告映像みたときには正直、「新海誠だけど・・・これ大丈夫かな­・・・？」と思っていましたが、 本編をみたら美しい描写、音楽、テンポなどに思わず身が震えるこ­とが何回もありました。 とりあえず一度観てみることをオススメします。

Besides, Asuna (the female lead) was an elementary school student and compared to Shinkai's other films, this one had a VERY strong Miyazaki feel to it. Well, at least to me it did anyway.

@TheMarkSasuke64 Hmm, I would give it probably an 8.5 out of 10 . Honestly, I thought it wasn't as good as 5 cm but it was still rather enjoyable. Again, it has a very ghibli-like feel to it and is a bit more violent and action filled compared to his previous works; either Shinkai was experimenting with a different style or he was paying homage to Miyazaki was what I got from that.

The OST is incredible, and the plot...well, I guess you could say it felt like it's not so much plot-heavy as it is about a young girl learning about how to deal with an important life lesson(death and passing), while at the same time being juxtaposed with someone who refuses to accept it. I won't spoil it, but it's definitely an interesting film in its own right. When it comes to visuals, Makoto brings the usual amazing eye candy he's so well known for. Overall worth checking out.

「喪失」にアスナはどう立ち向かい、どう受け止めるのか
