  • He came to my school on 5/13/11 since one of our teachers is his wife.

  • brilliant playing!

  • This is a testament that Stravinsky was also an excellent pianist

  • The aesthetics of the actual music should take precedence over all, NOT the concern of whether or not a pianist/instrumentalist is moving too much or not enough. This is a distractive way of looking at a performance and could potentially over-analyze the role of the performer in the mind of the listener to the point where the music doesn't get through properly.

  • It would've been hilarious if the video would've ended at the 3 second mark.

    BRAVO BRAVO!

  • John IS the man. Lol.

  • JON IS THE MAN

  • The first american in 16 years to win this competition

  • one of the hardest sets pieces ever written. flawless.

  • Piece of cake

  • you asked me once about the "not real head moving"! look at this pianist! I like him! he plays well! I'm sure he has feeling during playing but he is putting them into the play, the music, HIS style of playing! he can fascihntate the people just with his preformance! music is for the ears not for the eyes!!!! by the way, I don't know anybody who likes musicans with this exaggerate bodylanguage.

  • so true. there's a new league of musicians that exagerate everything. and unexperienced crowds come to see them only for the show

  • Thanks! Do you know lang lang the chinese pianist? I thik he's one of them. But, if he wouldent make a show like always nobody would watch ore better hear him!

  • jon nakamatsu is one of my favorite pianists. i agree that he probably has feeling during his performances, but i dont think its wrong to exagerate body language. I think its fine to fascinate ppl with music for the ears and motion for the eyes. i personally like musicians with body motion just as much as musicians who can play pieces beautifully without so much motion.

  • I totaly diagree. music is for the ears not for the eyes. when you listen to the music, you should close your eyes and see wat the music says in your soul. music is not a show! shure, sometimes it is. you can dacnce... but chopin, beethoven, mozart, all this pieces are telling a own story. and its not the bonylanguage of lang lang. the moves are just anniying and not necessary. concentrate to the music!!!!!!

  • what if the pianist cant help it? i would listen to lang lang even if he didnt do all the moving cuz in my opinion, he plays pretty nicely too. if you think he only slams the piano, look for his nocturne performance, turn off the monitor so you cant see his movement, and just listen. its beautiful.

btw, i've tried competitions before, and its not just once when someone else took the 1st prize because i lacked motion.

  • yes, its true. langlang has a lot of talent and plays beautiful. but I think he is an actor too. this moving isn't reals! it's playd!!! I don't think mozart ore beethoven have done so much moving during playing and I'm sure they have felt sth aswell!!! lang lang is just a entertainer. and I dont like it. I love going to the teater ore in a concerto and I hate when sb does so much moving. a stupit behave bring money in! this is the wrong setting

  • i agree with what you say about faking movement and how annoying it is, but to me, lang lang doesnt look like hes faking much. i think its fine to move a lot because its entertaining and you can have fun looking at the pianist and listening to what theyre playing. i'll just conclude my opinion by saying every pianist has their own style.

    this crunch bar tastes good.

  • @vici7 Beautifully? Have you heard his Chopin, or his Liszt? Hell, his Debussy is pretty awful.

  • Beautiful sound, very good píanist.

  • Beautiful performance!
