  • @levitrumpet Levi, how do you get nice clean trills off that fast? I can scream but i cant figure out the lip trill very well any tips?

  • @famguy2 When you figure it out, let me know. But really, my best ones are all based on tongue position. Find where the note 'clicks' from one slot to another and your tongue will learn where those spots are and how to go between them.

  • @levitrumpet Thanks man I start jazz in like a week and im lead and we are doing horn of puente and some other crazy songs and a lot of them need some good lip trills. Cant wait to see how i can perform compared to practicing.

  • @levitrumpet Nice hit at 1:00

  • I like the piano part at 0:33

I play in my middle school band and we played this song :D

  • Great lead playing Levi!!

  • @71stang57 Thanks- nice vids you posted, awesome horn section sound!

  • @levitrumpet Thanks! I'm really fortunate to have received 3 grammys while playing with various bands here in Texas.

  • If the world had more music like this.

  • I love the intro to the tenor sax solo at 4:25

  • this was a sight reading sesh no?

  • I say Wayne and his big band a few months ago at a Class Notes concert at Los Al high. Was amazing. This song and Mcarthur Park were my favs.

  • what a sound! Who's on lead?

  • You probably mean Wayne, but I'm playing lead in the big band, hah

  • nah, I mean lead! Great trumpet section, great band . . . wayne sounds ok too :-P

  • @levitrumpet great sound! You really get it!

  • I was at this concert when Wayne was in town. It was GREAT. I've been following the one o'clock program since I was in high school...late 70's. Jason is fantastic and so is the rest of the band. So tight, so talented, I'd like to hear them every day. They will always have that WOW factor to me. Looking forward to Lab Band Madness 2009.

  • what in the hell does that even mean?

  • Yeah, what does that mean?

  • thank u, kid!

  • wayne is one fun guy to play with. bravo nice vid.

  • drumming is less than satisfying, I think?... I drummed for Wayne when he came to our school last year to this tune and it punched a lot harder. gotta back those horn lines- and on the drum breaks I like comin gout of it with quarter note triplets the last measure before the melody plays the last time.

  • lolz

  • i have the audio from our performance but no video if you wanna hear it, message me your emails

  • Right....... this is the One O'Clock Band.

  • so i must be wrong

  • personally i think the drumming is pretty dead on. If he hit harder it would be overpowering for a big band style and sound. It would sound more like rock (which too many drummers think is correct for Big band).

And mad props to the bass bone, he sounds great!

  • nobody has sent me their email addy- i'll back up my claim

  • I'm anxious to hear your audio!

  • What the last person who listened said:

    "Thanks man.

Wow, he's such a monster, he's always on his game! Drums sounded killer, but I couldn't hear the bass or the other brass players very much. I think that's probably the recording quality. Those are some gnarly double-B's at the very end, then again it's Wayne. From 5:30-ish on, his playing is incredible. I guess that's what happens when you play in the studios every day and you get paid to not mess up."

  • i've sent the audio to all who have requested it and nobody has responded on here if it was worthy. i personally think it's better than this cat, minus about 2 parts. no hate, it's a great tune, great band, and nobody in the 1 oclock band is dead weight. just my personal taste for appropriate drumming, so enuff with the hate

  • the video is pretty impressive so im not trying to be critical if it seems that way

  • No I didn't take it that way, I'm just a trumpet player and didn't know what stockings were. I was thinking socks. haha

  • lol no prob. so are the lead in the one o'clock band?

  • I played in there 2004-2007, lead in 06-07

  • around 5:09 you can see the lead bone player (?) jump and then start spraying water on his stockings, or at least it appears that way. Thats kind of a strange thing to do while resting. Prob being a little too critical.

  • he was spraying his slide- what are stockings??

  • the stockings are the part of the inner slide that actually come in contact with the outer slide. they are on the very end of the slide.

  • I got to see this guy play live. Absolutely fenomenal especially this song! loved it.

  • diggin this band great stuff!

    =]

  • who is that lead tenor player soloing ... i mean really? one o'clock? more like 20 o'clock. my friend and i in our videos could totally give him a lesson.

  • wait.....so then who rehearses at midnight????

  • wait a minute.......what does one o clock mean???

  • At UNT there are 9 "lab" bands. The one o'clock rehearses at one o'clock and are the top band, the next being the two o'clock, rehearsing at 2:00 and so on

  • practice is bad, gets you know where

  • maybe one day if your lucky the drummer from the texas one o'clock band will give you a lesson on autentic

  • jesus vega will give it to you authentic.....he he he he

  • Of course the original Aladdin was better, it was recorded by professionals in a professional recording studio, you moron. Agreed that you'd be lucky if the NT drummer gave you a lesson one day. Wayne kicked ass on this chart but please (you're obviously a better drummer and trumpet player) please come and play this for us someday. I'd like to hear how it's supposed to sound.

  • look bro, ill be there. I can play drums and trumpet at the same time and sound like elvin and maynard. Ill give it to you in the real hole... he he he

  • Ah, I dunno guys. Jealous or attention whore? Something screams both.

  • Hey man, it's not about the scales or the difficulty of what he's playin (which i'd like to see you try and play like that), it's his style and SPICE he put's into it. Don't be critical. Just listen.

  • SOMEBODY please PM me and tell me where I can buy the sheet music for THIS arrangement. This would be great for my personal Jazz Band!

  • I doubt you can buy this arrangement. I played in a concert with Wayne with my college Big Band and Bergeron's agent sent us music and had to return it after the concert. But if you find it ... more power to you.

  • Yeah. He's coming to our school this spring. I think we'll be playing this, too. I should send this video to our trumpets.

  • is randall babbin still in the one o'clock? he's a trumpet player...last i heard he was second and about to move to lead

  • he left spring semester of 2005.

  • Really nice clean lead playing. How do you play so high?

  • levitrumpet, what horn do you play? and awesome videos, these are pretty much the best on the internet with Wayne.

  • Bach Strad model 25 and thanks!

  • yay! a non- standard Strad. What horn did Wayne use for this gig? the Kanstul? or the Yamaha?

  • it was his new Yamaha

  • Right, thanks!

  • See Wayne live during his Dutch tour! (google) trumpetparty.

  • Great lead playing Jason. Can I have my mouthpiece back now?

    Love

    Dad

  • Great videos - thanks. Say hi to Dave Richards for me!

    -Chris Nalls

  • as I understand it- "lab band" (short for laboratory) just means that we are a rehearsal band that plays mostly student charts

  • we just played this with him this year at the spring concert!! go wayne!

  • Thanks a lot for the kudos, guys. More Wayne videos are now online, check them out!

  • i got to play with bergeron we played this song too i dont think we were as good tho lol

  • sweet as candy...

  • Cool video Jason. And Massivbeast I'd love to hear some recordings of Jason from his early days ;).

It's kinda goofy to hear the One O Clock playing a tune like this. But I like it.

  • I love Wayne Bergeron. Trumpet section in back sounds good too.

  • this is really great. levi, if that was u on lead, u sound great. gave wayne a run for his money i think

  • Thanks man! I wouldn't go so far as to say I gave Wayne a run for anything though lol. More videos to come

  • I was a graduate teaching fellow at UNT and remeber Jason Levi when he entered as a freshman...it's great to hear how he's developed into an outstanding lead player! The whole band sounds great and all of you will look back on your years at UNT and with Neal's program with great fondness....I know I do. Post more like this Jason.

  • WOW clash of the Titans!!!! UNT and WB!!!!! awsome post...please send us more!!!! Great UNT Lead Trumpet by the way!

  • c'mon people, rate and comment! get us on the top of the search results!
