The Arawaks (Indians that were native to The Bahamas and other islands) were taken to Haiti to work in the mines. They all died far too quickly as a result, along with diseases they contracted. Then came the slave trade, providing Africans for mining in Haiti. They could work harder and live longer. The U.S. is not there to help anyone but themselves!

that's funny, fellow moron! i suppose it does sound strange. no i got my info from an afro-american male friend who has relatives in haiti . his wife is haitian he is there now taking 2 full suitcases and money. he spoke w/ relatives there daily since earthquake and they confirmed the news reports about men w/ machetes but,it is much worse than we're hearing. he said Haiti needed a military takeover. However terrible, i don't make any apologies as was told this by trustworthy source.

you are right but since that doesnt sit well with people's p-c assumptions, they pretend to disagree.. but in reality they all agree; they think if they pretend hard enough and give isolated contrary examples and overlook the majority of actions, they can avoid the miserable reality that Haiti is not going to be stable, profitable or productive.. it hasn't for 500 years and isnt going to now. Haitians (w/ avg IQ of 80) would be best off completely agricultural and with far less people.

Haiti has v.high unemployment, now disaster stricken, high crime/drug cartel/gang & bribe problems. Should we just leave them to suffer? US/Canada has given more in aid then any other. I fail to see how providing jobs isn't welcome either. Or do think countries should just give to corrupt govs that take bribes for ignoring these problems?

They're still taking the bribes. The UN building will be the first to be rebuilt. Haiti was given $10 m/yr from the US. Do you think $100 m will make a difference? The purpose being served here is to make a new platform into Central/South America. Corruption is everywhere. Giving them money and not food/water is not going to help. It's a clusterbomb and a cover for something else. There are now 40k UN soldiers in Haiti. For what? For advancement of forward positions; that's what it is for.

I think they're all onto this game and hoping we'll lose ourselves in defining labels. I think it would be more helpful to identify the most serious corruption, torture, bribery, fraud, and should it be one particular group of people does all of them, don't "label" them, name then, name after name after name, date and title/involvement/company etc. One by one. Forget the label. Make the fight serious.

yeah rebuiliding it with all that money they made on television, cell phones, etc should have been enough to send some AMERICANS over there who could help rebuild the entire city along with some Mexicans. the Mexicans are MASTER CRAFTERS! They could totally have rebult Haiti in a short period of time. @stangeriam Although I think Lyndon Laroush is a nut, he does make an interesting case for the difference between the English System of imperialism and Free Trade, and the American System (now long gone) which used protective tariffs to allow a country to development. One system created slaves, the other, free men.
