First of the "all-star" albums. George ended up playing on many of Alvin's albums. The most poignant being his slide intro on "I Want You, She's So Heavy," from the album 1994.
George Harrison actually plays the slide guitar on this one, if I am not mistaken. And I think chronologically, this song came out BEFORE George Harrison's (albeit George wrote it) version.
ML started with the Lefevre Family, a gospel family group...FYI. Did you know...AL and ML were backed on this by a man using the name Harry Georgeson (George Harrison)? Harrison used the other name so AL and ML wouldn't have to pay his full price for his services.
While you are correct about George playing Slide under his alias Hari Georgeson, you are incorrect that the reason was "so they wouldn't have to pay full price for his services". Firstly, s session musician simply receives the "scale" wage for musicians, and famous musicians do it purely for the enjoyment anyway. The reason he, just like John Lennon (Winston O. Boogie), and Dylan (Robert "Milkwood" Thomas & "Blind Boy" Grunt) use aliases, is to revel in the humor and anonymity of it
Saw Mylon in 72 in Detroit opening for Ten Years After.Mylon closed with Gospel Ship, never seen so many Detroit Rockers going nuts over a gospel song.Being raised in a Detroit Southern Baptist home (we went to Temple Baptist on Michigan Ave) I had heard the song many times, but never quite like Mylon`s version. It was a moment for me,I was being Rocked at Church,if you been to a Baptist Church in those days, that just never happened,3 Encores for Mylon was totally deserved, Great Show
@motownharry Thanks for the great Detroit memories! Got to to see Alvin Lee finally a couple times at Cobo. Was during the Ten Years Later years. I remember Temple Baptist at West Chicago and Telegraph. Again thanks and have always loved this album. Take care!
I had this album...what amazing music early 70s gave us. George wrote some of the tunes on the album, under Harri Georgeson. Through the years Ive seen Alvin and Mylon and they still have unique voices and amazing presence.
Better than George's?? Nope. I don't think so at all. George's featured much more textured acoustic/electric guitar interplay, and his distintive slide as well. Although, George plays a lovely accompanying slide on this one.
But Lee's is a very good version, and his singing is more at ease than George's take.
Correction duly noted. But however good Lee and Mylon's version is, and it is an affecting, plaintive lament that has a countrified soulman feel to it, I still think George's version is better.
very class "star" satus video.....just re-lived a lil' bit-a-ma- past
thanks 4 the sound & vid

Braddy,, you are correct on BOTH of these assertions. And as an aside, George's slide guitar is credited to his alias, Hari Georgeson.

Hey, how about commenting on the song itself than comparing it to other versions? At least George wrote it in the first place.
