  • you still offering harmonica lessons on skype??

  • pls dont recomend people that hohner marine ban deluxe...

  • I havae a cheap hohner sislver star, everything is screwed together and not nailed. but it wont bend for buggery

  • @XTwittyX he said " folks" it is like saying friend

  • what are you saying on the biginning? "hi ......."? I learn English and I'd like to know that ;)

  • amca 2.54 - 3.03 arası hareket çekiyor.

  • I think Bob Dylan has always used Marine Band.

  • Hello Ben,

First of all thanks for the videos and demonstrations !!!! very nice info!

Ive been playing for 3 months only on the key of C. I'm wondering and cant decide which key should I try now. Which key would you recommend to be my second one to practice, which keys do you think are the basic ones ( A, C G , E?? ) finally whats your favorite Hohner harmonica over all?

Thanks in advanced for your time and knowledge.

Greetings from South America and looking forward to your response.

  • not had a chance to play a deluxe, but i have played a Blues harp. and i prefer what you've called the 'rough' edge of the standard MB. and unfortunately as a student in the UK don't have the cash for a deluxe, but much prefer the MB of the BH. good vid though.

  • Ben wat harmonica is your favorite harmonica i wanna know wich one is the best

  • @dionreload See my comments below please, but I'm told the new Hohner Thunderbird is better than all of them; I look forward to trying it out. Ben

  • im just buy one Marine Band on ebay this week XD

  • hey dude, i need a harmonica for country music, what will i need?

  • i found a marine band harmonics in my attic, are they worth anything?

  • @theflea1123 most likely just slightly more than a regular used marine band depending on the year ... if you can find the year to be pre-1990 its worth a little more than one post-1990 because quality control at hohner was higher back then as compared to now as they only take time to inspect expensive ones carefully ... also the wood in the comb may be a bit dryer giving it a clearer and crisper tone which alot of people admire ... so if its old yes but if fairly new then not much worth

  • Yo man great video...but i am interested in a chromatic harmonica with sound similar to Hohner cx 12, but a bit cheaper...do you know any?

  • What tune is that at the end of the clip?

  • wich are the best ones; marine band or blues harps?

  • @LukaaaasMusic Why don't you try them and see what suits you best.

  • @LukaaaasMusic MB for playing, but they don't last long.

  • Just play man that would be a better demo. It's is about sound right. So if that is the case (use both in the same key otherwise there is no point.) Chalk and cheese you dig. Now if you do that folks can use their ear. Don't get me wrong good for you for the demo but how can you compare if not playing the same tones and in exactly the same way.

  • what's your favorite harmonica? if you need to choose one?

  • @marklavic I have mostly MBs with a few MBdL and some others, but if I was buying new ones now I'd go for the crossover I think.

  • Hi have you ever play the hohner crossover what do you think of them

  • @javijazztazz The Crossover is better than BOTH these in my view.

  • Thanks a lot for posting this. It was very helpful and your very good. Continue with the vids!!!

  • and why the deluxe looks easier than normal model?

  • @sharkpyro93 I don't know if it's easier to play - it's thinner in the mouth, but they're both excellent harps. I would probably choose the deluxe out of these two and maybe the Crossover above both.

    Ben

  • wich one is better?

  • Awsome review mate..good job really...

  • Hi, the low harps tend to do that on low reeds, because they swing way out and ratlle against the cover. If it really bothers you, play more lightly or bend the cover. The regular Marine Band is my favorite harp. No other sounds quite like it. I don't mind its quirks.

  • i got a hohner marine band lowD, and the 1st hole screechs on the draw. hard to explain but, its like a little rattle or metal reed hitting the sides or somthing. is this normal? i dont think it is, but music store wont take returns. should i contact hohner?

  • It is normal in low-tuned harmonicas. Reed is too long and it hits the covers. I've heard that putting a bit of adhesive tape on the interior part of the cover over the reed can be helpful, however I didn't try it on my own. It's a bit difficult in Marine Band, though. If I were you, I wouldn't do anything.

  • @Mat244 Customisers like Richard Sleigh will put a small bulge over hole one draw to avoid this - he does all my harps and he is outstanding.

  • I attended SPAH and the new molded woods and resins are the new deal .

  • Heya Ben! Ive just switched from a Hohner Special 20 plastic comb, to a standard Marine Band. Now the wooden comb certainly gives a more lush sound for sure. But im REALLY dissapointed and puzzled. After carefully breaking in and just playing for 3 weeks the orange wooden comb has warped about 1mm or so between holes 2 and 6 and is protruding. Not particularily comfortable to play, and probably wont help with note clarity. Is this a common feature on Marine Bands? Is it easy to fix?

  • Wood swells. If it won't shrink when it dries out some people cut the ends off. I personally wouldn't do that because if it does end up going back down you'll be worse off than before.

  • Thanks Anon540 ! Shame as it is a lovely lush sounding harp. I`ll see how it goes, but i`ll switch back to plastic combed harps Maybe fork out a bit more and try a Seydel

  • I was looking around the other night for ways to customize harmonicas, and I found something on eHow. YouTube won't let me post the link, but look up "Seal wooden harmonica" and it should come up.

I don't know what that would do to the tone, but it's better than giving it a toss.

There is a guitarist (Eric Johnson, maybe?) who sands any unseen areas on his guitar to let the wood resonate through the finish. You might want to give that a try too.

  • The only thing I will say is that I think the marine band standard does have a certain charm to it that I can't quite put my finger on. There's soemthing quite satifying playing a marine band, I don't know what it is...

  • Woah- low F. Not what I'd have chosen to demo with...

  • Oh, man, thanks a lot!

I'm gonna buy a Marine Band today, and I wanted to be sure about it's sound.

    From Chile, once again: Thanks!

  • fantastic demonstration and great playing ben! relly like the music at the end, i'm now decided on getting the marine band deluxe. just about to take up learning the harmonica, is it reasonably easy to learn? all the best, jonathan.

  • exelente video me gustaria que aprender a tocar bien ya saludos desde chile adios

  • Thank you, glad it helped! Ben
