I use XP at work, a mac at home. I've got vmware on both machines (fusion on the mac, ws on the pc) and have Umbutu linux running in a vm on both machines.
Great way to learn. no risk. I'm about ready to put Umbutu on an old pc see how it does on its own.
Its UNIX dude, with a pretty face. . .hmm sounds like OSX, doesnt it.
You don't sound like you have a PhD. I bet you are just mad that you spent a ton of money on a Mac, while we who actually know how to use computers get a better operating system for free.
Yeah, Mac are so powerful with its multiple processors. I mean, one for the sound, another for the graphic, and another for the actual computing. Imagine if they are dual or triple core too!
Mac's are NOT a waste of money, I would love to have one.
Out of context, zak9456, you seem to be replying to a question about the video. I was not asking a question about the video. It's clear what the video is of. Dojan5's defensive claim about not knowing much about hardware was that he was working on a "Linux OS". Given that, it seemed like a worthwhile question to ask what exactly made his "Linux OS" so unique. I'm NOT asking any questions about this video. I'm NOT asking for instructions. I'm asking for clarification on a statement.
Actually price to performance Mac hardware is no where near the value of PC hardware. However, since its a closed platform very few drivers are needed and most of them can be developed in house by apple. So you really don't get the driver conflicts that one might with a PC system. Its possible to buy a 3ghz c2d, 4gb ram, and a mobo that will handle all of the daily chores for under $300, add in a decent video card and you've got one powerful machine for a few hundred less than a mac mini.
So do PC's. Load balancing is part of the kernel. Windows, OS X and Linux have it built in.
Different processors for different things? Well lets start with a PC then. PC's have a CPU, a GPU, and can even have a PPU for physics, than can handle multiple cores like a core 2 duo, or a core quad too. Macs and PC's can run on the same hardware. Go search up the term hackintosh. Its running leopard on a core 2 duo PC machine. Works just fine, and is as fast as buying the mac, but cheaper.
Mac and PC can run on the same hardware, it is not entirely true. A PC IS the hardware, though I get what you mean, you mean that Windows can run on the same hardware as Mac and vice versa. I know about OSx86, however, my computer cannot run OS X due to lack of SSE on my CPU.
I personally would love to run OS X, but I'm stuck with OS9 on my PPC 5500
I'm not dissing PC, (even though I hate that PC is now adays = windows) believe me, I use PC every day, mine uses both Linux, Windows XP and Windows 7, I like PC, however, I prefer Macintosh.
Tell me what makes YOU so useful? I'm a student, and a software developer. I am sure more useful than a sports addicted weirdo like you.

That comment made by myself was made about 6 months ago... so stop annoying me. I do not see any inovation in Linux! Linux isn't really that good if I cannot run compiz Fusion on a mid range laptop bought two years ago... it sucks. Another thing, have you people actually used a Mac for longer than an hour? You people do not understand the innovation behind OSX!
who's annoying you exactly? I wasn't even talking to you... I was commenting in general... and yes I have used all operating systems quite fairly... Linux, Unix, OS X, and Windows... and where did I mention linux anywhere in my comment? FreeBSD isn't Linux, its a variant of Unix and while I agree that Linux isn't completely stable, the reason why OS X is is because FreeBSD is stable.
Linux is great if you spend some time with it. People who don't want to learn hate Linux. and if you TRULY have a PhD in a technology field then you would be eager to learn a new OS instead of bashing Linux. Mac OS X is awesome too but why bottle yourself up in one OS for the rest of your life?
I can see your point of view but in my studies I really have to say that even though Linux is based on Unix it isn't good. To be quite honest I do prefer Linux to Windows although I opt for Macintosh with it's good interface and security
i know. I am a bit of a hypocrit cause i did that before to my Ubuntu installation, but now i have human and it kicks OSX's ass...at the time of that video i was really into Mac4Lin
@asphixmx Who cares if I use the Mac theme Linux is about freedom, and people like you don't seem to understand that... If I like to theme Linux and it makes my happy than who cares what you thing... It's my computer , and I should be able to do what I want with out you judging me...
I'm not judging Mr., I am only giving an advice. I know a lot about freedom in GNU/Linux, so don't tell me "I don't understand". I said what I said because for me, it's not good to mimic a privative OS. Yes, with your computer you could do whatever you want, even being happy with those "customizations" showing being fan of the Cupertino Co.
@asphixmx Your right I have seen better clones. My Linux Mac theme looks way better than this. They need screenlet, Mac4Lin, AWN, compiz. Next they need ghex to edit the hex-code of
sudo ghex2 /usr/lib/compiz/libanimation.so
sudo ghex2 /usr/lib/compiz/libanimation.a
sudo gedit /usr/share/compiz/animation.xml
Then the also need GnomeDo as a Quicksilver equivalent, Moovida Media Center for a Front-Row equivalent, and a global menu... and a few other things to make it really look like a Mac..
you thought wrong. Compiz is not available for Windows or MacOS (at least not yet). There are other Compisite Window Managers that are available but none of them are quite as feature rich as Compiz Fusion or as stable as Quartz.
I bought a MacBook SantRosa3.1 a week ago, just installed Ubuntu on it and fiddling with Mac4Lin, but some stuff don't work well on it. I read that Intel X3100 is black listed on compiz? I did have all the packages (Not Mac4Lin) in bits an pieces put together running perfect on Ubuntu on my Toshiba.
for all your information that is not "mac4lin" is just just a themed compiz-fusion (compositing window manager) to look like mac.... I have it running in even a minimalist distro like puppy linux... and a version is coming out with compiz-fusion built in... the dock is called kiba-dock and it has a physics engine built in... this video mainly does a great job at mimicing max os x but Linux can do so much more if you chooose
Why would you want something as stable as linux looking like something only slightly more stable than a windows computer? Feel free to scream at me for this because I scream back. ;-)
Nice Unbuntu and Compiz demo.. Looks exactly like Leopard in many ways, plus the rubbery windows and the zig-zag maximize.
I swear by my OS X and it's critical for what I do, but I'd love to switch to Ubuntu if I could (Frankly however, except for the weird new firewall, Leopard does all I need UNIX wise.)
I did something like this once. It was a huge mistake.
