  • This is quite magnificent. Perfect combination of a fantastic song and even more fantastic voices. The harmonies created are truly sensational and second to none - from the high tenor line to the low resonance of the bass and the tuning is 'on the money' from beginning to end. I truly cannot immagine a better male voice sound. Beautiful!

  • Thats why they are called the KING SINGERS.. Everry king or queen wish they had singerst like this.. Thumbs up cuz this is what they call singin.!

  • They really shouldn't be wearing microphones :) u can hear them breath after every mesure

  • Ironic how I'm listening to this and its making me drowsy... :)

  • So many memories *sigh*

  • Wow, just....wow!

  • @derekfnord in fairness, the 5 dislikes could be cause the quality is terrible.... but the song and performance is epic.

  • This songa actually does make me tired lol

  • That gave me crazy chills down my spine. This is what real music is.

  • wow is this is what perfection must mean?

  • we sang this in choir and i was a tenor 1, its damn high

  • @derekfnord omg, i thought there are no one would dislikes this... jeez..

  • We're singing for graduation this year :) Can't wait! You guys did great ;)

  • R.i.p Stacey.. The Family loves you, baby. I hope you're better now and I know you're looking out for us.. We miss you.. See you again, someday :')

  • this was my day 4 of the 30 day song challenge on fb :( a song that makes me cry

  • I'm singing this in my choir class! :O I absolutely love it. C:

  • -chillssssssss-

  • we are singing this in my chior class

  • my schools select choir is singing this some and it is just amazing how a bunch of high shcool students can poor our emotions in to a song this chalenging and beutifull and makeit soud just amazing

  • @applebrigade It's the overtones! Their pitch is so perfect in those chords, it brings out all the hidden notes our ears can't usually hear!

  • They can sing me to sleep whenever they want <3

  • how the hell can 3 people dislike this?

  • liberaとはまた違った魅力があって凄くいいなと思った。みんなで歌ってるから迫力があるし、それぞれがちがうパートを歌ってるのが聞いているとすごくマッチしていい!!感動しました!(^◇^)

  • Superb example of how the genius of a song is totally revealed by stripping it down to its barest elements.......lyrics and melody alone; performed with perfect pitch and clarity........without the addded and oftentimes excessive spice of studio production and synthetics. The Kings Singers are the ultimate in unplugged artistic excellence.

  • They do a key change totally out of the blue and all pitches are perfect. Very impressive.

  • SATB? Not sure what you mean? I'm very interested in countertenors and sextet choral parts though theory wise, can you educate me?

  • @samfraserbaxter2 SATB stands for soprano alto tenor and bass.

  • does anyone have sheet music for this?

  • @samfraserbaxter2 Yep. You buy it from their site or a regular music store 0 it's in a few of their anthologies, and also available as a single song. they do tend to market regular choral (ie SATB) versions though, as opposed to male sextet so be careful to check before you buy. But the SATB a divisi of this is v good, and TRICKY to get good I guarantee it :/

  • I love this song, but seriously, you need to get a grip.

  • i am seriously crying! This is so beautiful. T u T

  • ... oh dear... it reminds me to my daughter i haven't seen for weeks... me and your mother broke up but keep in mind that you are the greatest present which has been given to me untill yet in my life... LOVE and MSS YOU

  • Just amazing...when a small group of singers blends well and is perfectly in tune, as they are, it creates an amazing resonance, an almost ringing quality, which to my ears is one of the most beautiful things that can be experienced in this lifetime. I have sung this arrangement and listened to it hundreds of times, and it chokes me up every time. I don't especially like Billy Joel, but this is a truly genuine, heartfelt piece of music and is by far the best thing he's written.

  • This song gives me shivers, even though I'm not hearing it in person. It's so amazing.

  • I am listening to this while I edit my 2nd book, but can't see the words because I have tears rolling down my face... How beautiful the singing, harmonies and absolutely anything sung by the Kings Singers... Sheer bliss.. *sighs* :0)x

  • @wenglishsal aww.. that's sweet..

what kind of book u're writing?

  • @deJaneiro746 ... Hello there... I write Romantic Fiction 'with a twist'.. My 1st is already in print, it was published in 2007..Reviving a Rose and the 2nd is called The Thistle and the Rose... Still trying to find the funding to get it into print... Grrr..

But just listening to The Kings Singers singing lifts up my heart and soul, so there must be a rainbow with my name on it somewhere eh!!!

Best regards from Wet and windy Wales UK :0)x

  • @wenglishsal cool.. i will try to find ur book here in Indonesia... i LOVE twisted story, especially romantic story... Regards from Rio at Jakarta, Indonesia..

  • @wenglishsal I write too. Where could I see a sample or anything of your writing?

  • @NeoVelocity ... Hello fellow author.. Type in 'Reviving A Rose/Chantelle's Journey', into Google and you will see the book and how to buy, if you wish too... Best regards from Chilly Wales :0)x

  • Awesome bass note at 2:30!

  • oooh my god i get chills every time i listen to it!

  • Those countertenors...they are all amazing, every single one of them, but the guy who is a little shorter and singing countertenor...man that is so damn brilliant!

  • love it ...befor all the insstermentes THERE was the voice and these know how to play...

  • I think the DVD should be called "From Byrd to the Beatles"

  • @Alfred0047 yeah, i think that's the title...thx..

  • i agree with katioushcka. this song is most certainly an injection of pure magic. its SOOO spectacular!!

  • My goodness, no matter how many times I watch this video, the bass always gives me shivers. Purely amazing, all of them.

  • i sang this song once for choir in highschool, and fell in love with it.... and this has to be the most beautiful arrangement.... has a whole new meaning to me now, tho, as a Marine wife and mother of two. The lyrics just take on a whole new meaning...... thanks for sharing!!!

  • @psychlgclwarfare u're welcome..

do u still have the sheet?

  • @psychlgclwarfare I know exactly what you mean... As a silver-haired Nanny.. This makes me think not only of rocking my children to sleep... but now my Grandchildren too... *sniff sniff*... I'm such a soppy soul... :0)x

  • I ADORE the king singers!! This is so beautiful and well performed. Thank you for posting!

  • ah, simply beautiful. their resonance is just magical. intravenous dosage of magic, my blood vibrates... and them singing live! a must!

  • Perfect performance! and beautiful music. :)

  • Un grand frisson, respect Gentlemen! Bravo la basse!!

  • Exquisito!!

  • Sent shivers up my spine, and made my hairs stand up... Wonderful. :) As usual.

  • It amazes me that this was written, arranged and harmonized too, by the same guy who wrote "Only the Good Die Young" and "It's My Life." Billy Joel is our modern day Brahms.

  • Absolutely gorgeous. <3

This holds a special place in my heart.

  • I love Billy Joel. It's always great to hear a cappella versions of his songs.

  • Check out Danny "daniscool99" Fong's multitracked version featuring Brodie Cuff!

The King's Singers may top them in pure singing skill, but these two guys put much more feeling into it. Plus, I like the arrangement they sing better.

  • I like that a lot! Thanks for the tip. :) I'll have to check these guys out.

  • The 4-voice version is also done superbly by Vocal Spectrum.

  • this is the first King's Singers song i ever heard, and it will always hold a special place in my heart because it introduced me to such an amazing group! thanks for the post, and long live the King's Singers!

  • Very classy and respectful...sounds really great!

  • my high school chorale sang this, pretty well, but it seems like nothing compared to these guys

  • It's a D Flat not a D

  • sounds like mendelsohn... it´s like ur heart is bleeding when u listen to this

  • Beautiful!!

  • i like the coda: someday we'll all be gone but lullabys will go on and on....

  • What note did the bass hit at 2:28?

  • i have no idea but its intense haha

  • The lowest note I can hear is a D Flat. I'm not sure if that's the one you're after

  • Its a Low D

  • It's a D2. D below the bass staff.

  • I can totally hear my alto part in this. I'm so stunned that a man is singing it though; power to him!

  • these guys are absolute perfection. my favorite accapella group hands down

  • Ich liebe dieses Lied! Ich singe es meinem Baby auch vor, es hat einen wundervollen Text. Und die Kingssingers sind natürlich die besten!! Danke für diesen Beitrag.

  • Bad sound quality... of course a nice piece of music

  • Wow. That's all I can say to this. Wow. Absolutely perfect.........

  • ...one can't help wishing to be a little child again...to have our parents tucking us into bed with this lullaby song...my father singing the 3 lower voices and my mother the three higher ones...yes, at the same time :o)))

  • I like this version better than the original... An ethereal feeling to the way they sing this... it's breathtakingly beautiful... simply fantastic.

  • The fact that one man can replace a womans part....has me speechless. Beautiful.awesome.scary almost. unified. whoaaa

  • it almost pisses me off the way they make this look so easy lol. absolutely amazing =D

  • ...in fact, it is quite easy to sing like this...it's like making a sculpture...you take a ton of marble and "hammer out" what is superfluous, leaving what is essential, the sculpture...and then you polish...and polish...and polish...the problem is to know what to leave...not to mention that you still need to polish...easy, huh ?...after 30 years, I'm still staring at the ton of stone, a hammer in my hand :o)))

  • that was amazing. that was a great comparison.

  • :o)))))))))))))))

  • Hahah! Wow. Very well said.

  • don't argue about that falsetto :D bass is still the best

  • Bass is definitely the bass. :D

  • Oops, I meant that bass is definitely the best. :P

  • lol either way it still works ;]

  • the soprano is a voice. counter tenor is a voice type. so it is not wrong to say " I love the soprano" as it is not wrong to say that he is a countertenor.

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice.

  • Actually there is no "soprano" - the soprano sound is produced by two counter-tenors (David Hurley and Robin Tyson) singing in falsetto.

  • Thats a misconception. The counter-tenors are not singing in falsetto. Thats why they're called counter-tenors...thats where their range is.

  • A countertenor is a male singing voice whose vocal range is equivalent to that of a contralto, mezzo-soprano, or (less frequently) a soprano, usually through use of falsetto, or more rarely the normal or modal voice. A pre-pubescent male who has this ability is called a treble. This term is used exclusively in the context of the classical vocal tradition, although numerous popular music artists also prefer employing falsetto.

This is the definition on wikipedia

. So yes, it is falsetto ;)

  • i love the soprano

  • there is no soprano...

  • Comment removed

  • thank you! i was just about to respond to him lol

  • haha, no probs

  • this isn't a soprano. it's a countertenor...

  • but he reads the soprano line in four part harmony music there aren't countertenors

  • it doesn't really matter what line he reads, it is a soprano line, but the man is not a soprano, he is a countertenor. "I love the soprano" makes no sense, because there are no sopranos in this ensemble, there are countertenors.

  • what's that ringing noise randomly?!?!

  • I want to know the same thing. This version is louder than the other YouTube recording, so I don't have to turn my speakers all the way up, but the ringing detracts from the quality.

    Absolutely beautiful song, though.

  • @applebrigade I think it's someone's cell phone.

  • @applebrigade overtones?? XDD

  • the title of the dvd is 'from byrd to beatles'

  • Counterrenors are great...i wish they still had the countertenor 2 second from left... but you gotta love em

  • Not the best recording, but the best singers and an amazing song!

  • Do you have Seaside Rendezvous as well? I think it's on the same dvd...

  • unfortunately it's not my dvd... it's my friend's..

i wish i had the dvd too...

  • this is one of the most beautiful arrangements...of all time..ever

  • I wanna learn this!

    It's so sweet and beautiful.

  • beautiful. id be honored if my choir could manage to sing this song half as good!

  • well that was rude

  • woah people. chill. you all understand that school choirs just arent as good as the king's singers cause they're not professionals. sure, arsalias said it rudely, but she's actually right. just calm down jeez.

  • I had always heard in theatre classes that there is no such thing as a perfect performance... this song proves them wrong.

  • haha...umm..theyre english

  • i am in love with this song i cry every time i listen to it. it gives me chills when i sing it with my ensemble

  • If you like this, check out Vocal Spectrum's version of it. It's amazing.

  • In person, they are sublime:)

  • Great post! I never even heard of them. This is amazing.

  • they were just at my high school and they're even more incredible in person!

  • omg lucky. i wish they'd come to my school :)

  • Just an unbelievably beautiful performance. The arrangement and voices are uncomparable as the King Singers are truely the Grand Master of harmony singing. Exquisite ! Thank you so much for posting this extraordinary video.

    I love this song. :)

  • This song is so utterly beautiful. Thanks for posting it.

  • I sang this in my schools "pops vocal". I think we did ok, but nobody could ever match the beauty and perfection that these guys sing it with. They're amazing.
