Hey if i wanted to visit this reservation, Would i be welcomed??? or should i know somebody in there before i go....i just admire the Lakota nation, it would be great to check it out and speak to the people there.
I am an Oglala Lakota Sun Dancer, Pipe Carrier, Veteran, and retired traditional dancer. Many people think that calling us Native Americans is politically correct, but that isnt so. We are also not Indians. I am not either of those, no am I Sioux(that is a whitemans word). I am Lakota, Oglala Lakota. Anyone who was born in America is NATIVE American, no matter your race. If your wre born in this country you are native to it.
I am headed to Pine Ridge in July to run a natural building workshop teaching how to build homes from natural materials and waste materials, the house will be made from pallets and in filled with light straw clay an earthen plaster will be applied on the interior and exterior of the home, i build these type of houses where I live in Texas, I am looking for volunteers, and I am taking 8 apprentices to learn this method of home building, for more info click my name and go to my website, see you!!
me play best flute in Lakota tribe, ugh. me have em cd you buy no trade for beads,me need em cash. me have em 3 squaws. order cd now.you see me blow best, ugh.
Put the blame were it belongs. The Corporation known as THE UNITED STATES is to blame, not individuals. If anybody of any race or ethnic background gets in the way of the corporation's goals, you will be crushed. I am part Cherokee and Southern, Look what the corporation did to my white and NA race. US burned our farm in Georgia and stole our land with carpetbaggers. We are now simply tax slaves, taxed for everything under the sun, they would tax us for air if they could put a meter on our ass.
@brainerdrebel That's right. They're all in the White House and quite a few were at St. Moritz attending Bilderberg. I guess they're plotting more destabilization war and mayhem but you will hear squat about this cabal of Feudalist crooks on CNN/Fox News
There are several reasons why WE white people still need to worry about what WE did to Native Americans. 1. Because they're still getting screwed today, in too many ways to list here. 2. Are we sure we've really cured what's wrong inside ourselves (yes our white selves)? I think Iraq and Afghanistan indicate we still don't respect people with different skin -- we just went overseas to steal more resources.
What is all this "taking blame" by the white identified people. "The way WE treated them.. WE whites didn't do anything to NA's. Most of us did not even have DNA in this country at the time. IF you think white skin gives you racial guilt, then you are a sick racist. DO you blame all members of other races for what some of them do, or DID 150 years ago? DO you blame the Latinos of today for the Spanish inquisition or all Germans for death camps. Do you blame NA's for what they did to other NA's.
Congratulations for all the people who participated in this video. Especialy the children who also speak from their heart.
I am not a Native American but I am very respectful and grateful for your traditions and teachings. You are the Earth Guardians. I hope that everyone that lives in the Americas recognize that we should respect the People who were living here before us. We should also learn that we are just one people. We are not divided in races. There is just one Race: The Human Race. Tks
that little boy speaking at 3:48 makes my heart so heavy...his words are so true, it made me cry. I wish projects like these would gain more attention in public. Though I´m not from the U.S., I think a lot of issues mentioned in this film apply to many other, but similar situations around the world. I think the only way to open people´s minds is to travel as much as you can, get to know people, learn about each other. Next time I´m in the U.S. I will definately visit the Lakota
@nadia237: there are many correct words which can be used, a few mentioned above, having said that most indigenous people are happy to be referred to by the name of their tribe, Lakota etc.
Native Americans look like beautiful people to me - although we, the white man, have done our best to destroy them. We should be ashamed of ourselves, I am and I am from colonial England.
@TheAnn2shoes My Native friends and I want you to know it's not your fault. Although, I am not a Lakota my but, friends are. Just don't forget us...we're friends!
@spareaxe Thank you for being so gracious but I know the white man must take some blame for the situation some of you now find yourself. Three years ago I visited the Pine Ridge Reservation, it was beautiful but we saw the poverty too. But we also saw hope.
Exactly, there are many of us who don't drink, smoke or do drugs. We are a beautiful people. There are sooo many positive things that haven't been reported because unfortunately negative media gets more attention. Feel welcome to come powwow, eat, pray and have fun!!! Mitakuye Oyasin!!!
By the way, we are all Native Americans now. We've all been here for hundreds of years. This is our land too -- but it's our money that you steal from us. Stop begging whitey for handouts. Go back across the Bering Straits if you are so miserable. Newsflash: the Indo-Europeans came to North America first.
@RedDeadAustin There are many of us who don't drink, smoke or do drugs. There are many of us who pursued our education and are going back to empower the youth. There are good things to talk about too, sadly the negative gets more feedback than the positive.
I am a 65year old white guy who hates what the white man did to a great nation like the Sioux. I weep when I hear of first nation teenagers commiting suicide and I hate that a great nation like the Lakota are forced to live in poverty. My great great
grandfather was Brule and I'm proud of that little bit of Sioux blood in me.

@GrimyGlock: I agree with you, TRUE to refer to the indigenous people of America as 'NATIVE AMERICAN, NATIVE INDIAN, FIRST NATION PEOPLE is right and appropriate. Its is obvious JBird2692 is young and lacks history as well as values...respect your elders!!! No.1 rule within the native culture.

I know that there is so much more to you Native American's than being called mascot names. It is very disrespectable. Your people have been here first. Your people's way of living has changed so much.
I missed where this Lakota Reservation was. (What state?) A lot different place than here next to the Cherokee Reservation over the mountains in NC from Tennessee or the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Thank you!

Excuse me! I been over there many times to the Cherokee Reservation and other tribes around the USA. Those people want to be left the fuck alone! Have we not done enough damage? I have great respect for the American Indains. I am 1/4 Pawnee, my grandmother was Pawnee. So before you run your ignorant ass mouth learn some facts! I once had a gift shop that sold only Indain jewelry and artifacts. To even handle a Kachina God doll is a huge spirtitual experience!!! Live it and learn it!!!
I sympathy with the Native Indian. They lost their beautiful land they lost their people. When I see this video ,I know the Native are waking up .Ask for your right in your land.Don't just be herded in the settlement.Ask for the place in the congress to voice your need.Even the black from Africa have a place in the politic. You should have yours .The land is yours.

I don't mind having sports teams being identified with natives...it's actually a compliment in the context it's used. Just like cowboys, 49ers etc.
If you research the origins of the word indian it means one with god. I would rather be called Native Indian than Native American.
