It's very simple. After washing your hair and letting it air dry until it is slightly damp, apply leave in conditioner to your hair. Once its all over your hair, blow dry it. I don't recommend you just leaving it in and letting the air dry it for you, it may turn all hard and crispy.

The difference is that there is texture and volume in his end result. Rather than just straight hair pulled back, he's giving it a nice wavy appearance (most of the details can be seen from the side and top of his head)
