3:31 -- To me this is when Monty's face finally reflects what he's become. Cold and dead from the knowledge that he threw his life away and lost everyone and everything he loved.
I just watched this movie for the first time. Wow. It was insane. I liked it more after I watched it because the meaning of it hits when your done. Insane fight scene too!
@gilbertrivas17 Absolutely!! Buy this Flick !!! The Cast is Superb, the Scenes are unforgettable. I was really impressed that Spike Lee directed one of his best.
Barry Pepper should be considered as one of the most talented and brilliant actors of his generation, and in my opinion, he's the best male actor when it comes to crying (remeber his part in "The Green Mile" or his breakdown in "The Three Burials"...) Amazing scene by the way !
Sorry for that. I also meant something slightly different than what turned out. There's an expression in Polish, literally 'to grow up to something,' meaning, to become able to comprehend certain things with time. That's what I meant, sometimes you just cannot appreciate things before you reach certain age or experience certain things, which require time. Ofc now that I know what you meant, my remark is no longer valid, anyway I didn't mean to offend you.
hey whoa now, i came across wrong, this type of acting is ok in few movies , like it worked well in seven pounds since that is an extremely emotional movie, but i would like to see him do something a little more tough.
I got the impression you want Pepper to become another Walken. Btw. these 'emotional' characters are IMO way more mature than any beat-the-hell-out-of-you macho punks I can think of.
again i never said they were, there are certain movies for those and certain movies for the emotional characters which i like from time to time, but all im saying now without a small rant is that id like to see him do something different, thats all. btw, i resent that you tell me to "grow up" when you just misinterpreted me.
As for the tough stuff, you said Pepper ought to act like a man, and that's how I came to think you consider the emotional parts to be worse than tough etc.
Monty needed to look worn down and beaten so that he'll get less of a hard time when he gets to jail. It just so happens that he knows that a part of Frank wants to punish him for being so reckless.
Great scene...the combination of the cloud of dread that hangs over Norton, his sense of desperation, pepper's reluctance to do it....I love when the sound fades out
i see why u guys cried..this (loosely) reminds me of a Nat.Geo. documentary about a war between a lion pride and a hyena pride. Many vengeful attacks traded between them, then one unforgettable fight-to-the-death between 1 lionness and 1 hyena. After a fierce battle, the lioness killed the hyena. she was very hungry, but before she reluctantly ate, she sadly nudged her nose against her foe a few times while whimpering sorrowfully, in a moving show of respect.
This was the real shocker of the movie. It is disturbing at first, but when you see it all you realize how powerful it is. This was an awesome movie, and Edward was a trooper for just continuing on after really getting hit. Knowing that just brought more depth to this scene. No doubt that this entire cast brought their "A" games to this project.
I was crying when I watched this scene for the first time, it´s sooo sad, I love Edward Norton,he´s a phosphorescent presence, amazing presence onscreen, I´ve saw him in every movie that he has made and I just can say that he is more than a great actor, he is THE REAL ACTOR, the only one,the best
In the commentary Spike Lee talks about how Barry Pepper accidentally hit Norton in the nose and how much it bled!! The took him to the hospital because they were afraid it was broken - so the blood running down his right cheek is real! Norton is THE BEST!!
Excellent film, perhaps Spike Lee's best.Every time i see this scene it breaks my heart.
