  • For all the guys saying this scares fish...WRONG. The last couple of years I have done almost all spey casting. I have had fish hit my fly while shaking the head out,hit my line at the white mouse, and fin next to me while I repeatedly cast. Nice cast by the way.

  • Every fish within 75 yards got spooked. Ok for Salmon fishing on big rivers with Spey rods, Not here. I suppose it was just a casting demonstration in any case.

    Tight lines everyone.

  • this is just a terriffic technique and a superb cast . i have been trying this cast , but its going to take a while. Cheers m8

  • Wow, must have put down every fish within a hundred yards...way too much water disturbance!

  • That's a very perceptive comment. Of course, the reason that fishing guides on the Tongariro are do this cast is because they find they catch fewer fish that way.

  • hey andrew, where abouts in newzealand do you do most of your fishing?

  • what is wrong with a simple double spey or snake roll....dumping the line on the water like this is just bad technique !

  • Admittedly the snake roll and double spey do require less movements but I feel that the dump used here - similarly in a Perry Poke - actually allows the development of a very big tight D-Loop and hence results in a longer cast - though for most situations I find I tend to use double spey or snake roll from the true right and a T snap (or snap t or whatever it is called) from the true left being a right hander.
