You are right, one of the male was rejected by the pair unfortunately. Thankfully I was able to get him out and passed him on to somebody else.

sorry i posted the comment by accident i meant to say i had him with my pistol shrimp for 6 months but yeah you should get them a pistol shrimp or even two .

I ended up getting them a pistol shrimp as well, I don't see the shrimp as much now, but I hear him all the time!
