That's awesome, you're amazing. I was much in the same boat and had the whole Christian background and fear of how my family would respond if I ever told them. I did the same thing about checking to see if there was any way to change it, therapy or whatever, and came to the same realization. Be careful you don't fall into traps many young gay men fall into. Maintain high standards for relationships. Expect guys who like you to focus on friendship first. Base your relationships on friendship and substance, not mere emotion or sexual attraction. Don't do anything you'll regret later on. Let yourself grow up first. Love yourself first.

Look for this video "It Gets Better Pop Luck Club" made by members of The Pop Luck Club, the largest gay dads organization in the world, share their thoughts on their paths to fatherhood. Proof that it gets better. Oh and you should also try to find a documentary movie called "Daddy and Papa". There's a trailer for it on YouTube. There's also a group called "COLAGE", Children Of Lesbians And Gays Everywhere. Their name says it all!
Dylan - it's not an easy life sometimes as I'm sure you are aware, but no matter how hard it gets or how many jerks you come across- don't give up on your dreams and finding your own happiness.

When I was 17 I saw a shrink because I thought I was sick. Luckily, he was a professional who helped me understand I did not have an illness that needed a cure. He did help me to learn to love myself for who I am. Nothing wrong with seeing a good shrink to help sort things out. I'm so happy you've got these videos and they helped you, not to sound too old or anything but when i was your age, ahem, I lived in the deep south and went to see a psychiatrist, a priest, and even thought of joining the clergy. That was before i started studying other religions of the world and found out the truth about Christianity and it's history. Now my husband and I are about to move to my mom's town to help take care of her. I wish you all the best, hope you find the man of your dreams.

As a therapist, I can assure you that changing some's sexuality is not possible. Only behavior can be changed. Counselors who claim they can change your orientation are lying & dangerous. In my professional work I have helped a number of gay men recover from the severe depression when the so-called conversation therapy didn't work & they were rejected by the counselor, their family & their religious community. As a former pastor, I can also assure you God loves you the way you are, gay and all.

Look for this video "It Gets Better Pop Luck Club" made by members of The Pop Luck Club, the largest gay dads organization in the world, share their thoughts on their paths to fatherhood. Proof that it gets better. Oh and you should also try to find a documentary movie called "Daddy and Papa". There's a trailer for it on YouTube. There's also a group called "COLAGE", Children Of Lesbians And Gays Everywhere. Their name says it all!

And other than Jay and Brian, there are tens of thousands of gay and lesbian couples having and raising their own kids! Just look for videos from the Family Equality Council here on YouTube.
If you and/or you parents need good support, look for a group called PFLAG in your area.

When I was 17 I saw a shrink because I thought I was sick. Luckily, he was a professional who helped me understand I did not have an illness that needed a cure. He did help me to learn to love myself for who I am. Nothing wrong with seeing a good shrink to help sort things out. I'm so happy you've got these videos and they helped you, not to sound too old or anything but when i was your age, ahem, I lived in the deep south and went to see a psychiatrist, a priest, and even thought of joining the clergy. That was before i started studying other religions of the world and found out the truth about Christianity and it's history. Now my husband and I are about to move to my mom's town to help take care of her. I wish you all the best, hope you find the man of your dreams.

I felt exactly the same way when I was your age. Every night before I went to sleep I would cry and pray for God to make me straight. I felt so embarassed and ashamed, but now as an adult I realize that there is nothing wrong with me, and I was made correctly by God the first time. There's no need to "fix" anything.

As a therapist, I can assure you that changing some's sexuality is not possible. Only behavior can be changed. Counselors who claim they can change your orientation are lying & dangerous. In my professional work I have helped a number of gay men recover from the severe depression when the so-called conversation therapy didn't work & they were rejected by the counselor, their family & their religious community. As a former pastor, I can also assure you God loves you the way you are, gay and all.

I'm glad you found a good, positive source for finding help for your struggle. It is wrong that people try to force their personal OPINIONS about what they think you should be. Look to nature and you will see that being gay is found in every species that has been studied for its sexuality. Much happiness for the future.
