@epm5433 yup, back then the NYPD was not exactly in favor of the pipe band and did not want to be associated with them. the 50th anniversary dinner party was just a few nights ago and they talked about the early days.

I used to attend the Pipers Balls as well as the weekends they had back in the 1970s and 1980s. ... My father, Ed Maloney, intorduced the motion to start a bagpipe band at the Emerald Society's meeting in 1960. ... He was on the steering committee and remained active until his death in 2000.
