im british, and it really annoys me when these posh stylist people try and define stuff, style is style people in the 60's did care about all this shit they just wore the clothes cause they wanted too. like that woman was even alive in the 60's.
There nothing 'sad' about it at all AndreaBabe2008, The guy who wears button down shirts is probably wealthier, happier, and more respected than you will ever be, and has a great wife and grandchildren who love him dearly. What he wants to wear, or how he wants to cut his hair, is none of your damned business. You sound like some Mary Whitehouse!
horrible. the definition of fake fucks. fashion's cool; clothes can be fun. but this whole "will this get us in the scene," or whatever bullshit she let spill out of her mouth, is a fuckin' problem.
AndreaBabe2008, aiiny ya got nothin better to say than that, nothin wrong with teds, i'm a biker from way back then, mods got all they deserved, maybe you want some, muppet, try taking your horse blinkers off and see the real world.
i love that some greasy grebo with long hair, crap tattoos, a wife beater and a lip ring knows about La Cosa Nostra. i say fuck that noize. the fashionistas have been borrowing a lot of Our style lately, but a silly little ska hat on top of a crap junkie look don't make you one of Us. Our Thing is a street style, not something for rich weekenders for sale in a trendy shop. i've seen dumpster divers who dress better than these poseurs. where's the pride??
Love how she talks about how American bands don't think out the way they dress as much as British bands do... and then they show a picture of Kings of Leon. Why do people forget that they're American?!
@mcdstuff Some young people will find excuses for casual brawls,it's the same in every generation. And the media always likes to portray the youth in a bad light. My Father said that the fights were no larger or more frequent than any other decades, they just had a different `theme`.
@JunkieSmurf Yeah I understand how it seems stupid. She is in the fashion industry so she is going to have eccentric opinions, she wont really believe that what the bands are wearing is the alpha and omega though. If you haven't come across the Mod thing yet, don't judge it solely on what people on the high street say about it. It is/was aspirational working class, but not vain or ignorant of what music really is.

Hahahahaha, thats so funny,Mods on hair dryers, yeah came across the mods bunch of muppets, what about the 50`s then,no mention of the origional group that started it all,yep the good old British Teddyboys,we sorte out the mods every time we saw them, bunch of pussies, what idiot puts a mirror on a hair dryer, and then wears a parker with a target on his back, like we needed a target...Roflmao
taking into consideration that you were around in the 50s 60s, its fair to say you must be at least 50 and yet you conduct yourself in this way. I would have expected that kind of comment form a child, not from a supposedly fully grown man.
You obviously have no idea what its like to be a Ted,or any other group, unless you have lived it you wont know,so what makes you an expert on what we are abou?t,you have no idea, why dont you confine yourself to something you have personal knowledge about, there are still thousands of Teds about and we all still feel the way we did in our younger years, there will always be that animosity between between us and them, regardless of age,im a little over 50,but still a proud Ted
"you obviously have no idea about..." what a patronising person you are.
I hope you raise your children with better manners.
I based my comments on your diatribe about "we always beat up Mods" etc..
My point being that you sound like every other youtube "gangster" sitting behind their keyboards trying to invent a past/image/persona, I stated that it was the behaviour of a child, and, by your response I believe I was right.
Hahahahaha,i had to give you a thumbs up for this post, been called a lot of things but Patronising, well its different, for someone who was never there, you will never truely understand what it was like for those of us that were there, when i said we always used to beat up the mods it was not a false statement, its the times we lived in,the groups that were around then did not get along, thanks for calling me a child, makes me feel young again,lmao........
according to your profile you are 51, that would make you 3 or 4 when the Mod/Rocker incidents 1st kicked off. are we meant to believe that you were "there"?
you also have australia as your home, please tell me you're NOT one of those "in my day" ex-pat sad w*nkers that harp on about how girls were prettier, beer was stronger, summers were hotter etc.
my dad was a Mod and had mates who were bikers, skins, punx, etc. NEVER any animosity.
Im sorry,i didn`t realise you were stupid,i will remember that on your next post, and make allowances for it,im working in Australia but i live in England.
You forgot one important era,the 70`s,i was a Ted at school and remember when the punks first started and the skinheads made a comback as did the mods, you are too young to remember the violence back then, but it happened, maybe i will bring a few friends back for your next post, could be fun,is that your dummy on the floor.
so.. you had trouble with punks, then skins and then Mods.. the common factor here is YOU.
As I said Ive know loads of Mods, skins, rockabillys, punks, bikers, emos, skaters, gamers, goths, etc.. and we all get on fine. If you and your mates feel so strongly about someting from your SCHOOLDAYS that it still leads to animosity NOW... sad, very very sad.
so you're a "little over 50" -let's say 54 (for arguments sake)
and you STILL harbour a grudge from 1963/64, when you were 6/7/8 yrs old?
-to the point where you click onto Mod pages on here and try to convince people that you were some kind of unstoppable fighting machine -"we sorted the Mods out EVERY TIME" ???
a sad old man trying to recapture his youth by talking utter bollocks on here.
old enough to know better, but sadly not the case.
Love Converse. Coolest shoes ever. But they're overpriced, don't last and it's hard to run in them. But put a good instep in them, and I'll wear them for life.
50 quid for a pair of jean?! back in my day you could get a whole suit for a ha'penny. But then again we only got paid 2 pennies a year for working 60 hours a week in the mines. All 14 of my siblings died of gout, I only survived cos I ate them. I lost a foot in the blitz.
Any worthwhile comment/ dialogue about society and culture has always emanated from the working class. Youth subcultures were a kind of **** off to the future. "What future"? "No future". Now that British higher education is on the wain and a return of no hope hovers on the horizon, perhaps the good ole British youth subculture will arise once again. Maybe it will be listed on the FTSE.
"Tired of London, tired of life"... what a lot of shit! There is a world outside of London and its infinately better! London has got a very good music scene but I feel sorry for the many people that get caught up in "fashion" and image.
london is the whole world in one city, one of the most multi-cuultural in the world. shes right when she says tired of london, tired of life, becuase theres always somewhere in london you havent been/havent seen...
@cliff42woodley It's not the whole world in one city. It does encapsulate most culture though.
What about forests, beautiful lakes, mountains capped with snow, beaches, northern lights etc etc and all of this stuff is infinately better. This is the point I was making. I see a lot of people strongly identified with London, London has a heavy gravity as does New York but they miss all the other stuff.
In terms of location for nature, London is badly positioned.
If my job title was 'Topman Stylist', I would be embarrassed to show my face. The fact that they have a 2nd hand (or as twats call everything 2nd hand, vintage) clothing section at the same price as their new stuff shows what kind of knobs work at and run that store.
@malfcouk you're right, these are fuckin' middle class wankers playing at mod, or indie, or rock and roll,or london, or whatever shit name they wanna label it. CUNTS.
Who is that silly pretentious cunt with the long hair and what the fuck is he doing talking about mods, he looks like a right fucking mess, as for all these wankers on here saying there somewhere between a mod and a rocker like they can have the best of both worlds, try wearing a suit on a motorbike without getting it grafted, or a leather jacket on a scooter without looking like a twat! What you really mean is you think your real 'indie' and buy whatever is in topman.
I love both honstley i am a big rock n roller but i love MODS aswell the who are one of my fav bands but they are amazing and both changed english fashion forver!.
Here we go again same shit from people who weren't born in the 1960s Mods who I am one of the original, and had a Lambretta TV175 in 1963 were youths from the street who designed there own cloths which made a fashion Carnaby Street came along off our backs. I never ever bought a thing in Carnaby Street didn't have to, we had ours made. These Chelsea Toffs think they stated the Mod fashion bull shit.
@bazcol1963 oh mate you are so right. People who werent there thinking they know it all. Never saw these tossers down the clubs like the flamingo tiles etc. Never bought my clothes in carnaby street either we used to travel all around for shirts etc (i live near the coast in the south) suits were made bloody smart and a bloody good time.
haa haa. the street is crap, have you been down there? london is full of "non english people"? you wanna see england? go north, go way up north, then you'll find the real english people? real life, passionate people? yea i'm a southerner that live's up north, and i'm 63 and a biker with mod mates so shut up or put up?
I'm 60. Still wear button down shirts, thin black (often silk) ties, jackets with side vents listen to the Who, Small Faces, (and the Flamin Groovies) hair is still (what is left) is close cropped and have a 64 and a 77 Min. Do I qualify?
@ozgribbo I, too, am 60 and loved the mid sixties of my youth. Leather coats, fabulous shoes at sensible prices unlke today, great hairstyles unlike today. Men had to have great hair, not shaved heads. Girls wore mini skirts but no compulsive cleavage like today. Heck, it was just better then. People noticed what you were wearing, girls and boys and the music ..................
@ozgribbo right there with you mate. i,m 62 love my button down shirts , silk stiped ties can still look good in the right gear at 62 and the hair close cropped smart but thinning) Great times and the clubs wow
London is shite... everything isn't from london, I lived there and it was a shitty rat race. Liverpool is 50 times better and Manchesters goin down the pan. Topman are wankers by the way :P
Mod goes backto the sixties, the way bands dress today is emo and that is fairly new. Mod, new wave, hardcore and skate were all aspects of punk. All rockers are nothing but dirt heads.
fuk mod mannn.......its all about the rockers...especially the rockers from south central!!....mod are lame, gay,no game.....bullshit!...ROCKERS aretruely the best!
its more of a fantasy to think music and fashion arent tied together. all of us sheep look to our fave bands and music artist for style inspiration. don't fool yourselves into thinking they don't co-exist. otherwise you wouldn't have seen the cliques in high school like the indie kids and the punks and the emo types. music+fashion=culture.
@ecnalubma696969 I agree...all the frocks in those shops are made in China...Carnaby was probably a bit OK in the eighties but just about...was a shadow of its true self...what makes LONDON exciting is 2000 cameras watching you down Oxford Street and if you're nicked without a ticket on the bus they can trace everything just by scanning your OYSTERCARD. Read 1984 and be afraid be very afraid...other than that you can join the masquerade at Carnaby street...they accept plastic
the reason i could not be a mod was pussy scooters...no match for a bonny...but got thrown out of the rockers for bathing regular and washing my jeans.... see you at the atce cafe, busy bee, ally pally...great times long gone but still got 2 bikes ( yamahas)pml
Well then if it's about just the music then I assume you listen to only Classical where composer and musical ideal rule supreme. Otherwise it's POP music you silly cunt - and that does have to everything to do with 'fashion' - wether you, I , or anybody else likes it.
@lifepod2036 Is it really him? Eurgh... Well, his language and attitude certainly fits that of a 'researchers'. Horrible people that inflict gross cruelty on animals for a living with no real benefits to humans, only side effects and serious long term harm or even death.
my dad was a rocker and sheperds bush market was a battleground , unfortunately now its ull of muslims and africans , i lament the passing of an area.
@Kthxbaiwut hate them because they have REAL bikes and not fucking 125cc scooters? or hate them cause they left your boys dead on the beaches of brighton?

Oh God, in this definition, (because I am definitely tired of London), I must be "tired of life".
What a lie!
I lived 32 years in London, after coming there at age 20.
32 years of bronchial/asthma problems (London air is FILTHY)
Since December 2003, I live in a small town in Germany. my health has improved exponentially.
What I really miss is the Beatles.
Especially John Lennon.

All you find up north is ugly women, cold winds and casual racism.

Bahh, who cares , it's just style. Punk is better because you can do whatever the helll you want.
skulldrix 1 year ago
Mod goes backto the sixties, the way bands dress today is emo and that is fairly new. Mod, new wave, hardcore and skate were all aspects of punk. All rockers are nothing but dirt heads.

3295027 1 year ago
its more of a fantasy to think music and fashion arent tied together. all of us sheep look to our fave bands and music artist for style inspiration. don't fool yourselves into thinking they don't co-exist. otherwise you wouldn't have seen the cliques in high school like the indie kids and the punks and the emo types. music+fashion=culture.
get over it and don't be so defensive.

ecnalubma696969 1 year ago
@ecnalubma696969 I agree...all the frocks in those shops are made in China...Carnaby was probably a bit OK in the eighties but just about...was a shadow of its true self...what makes LONDON exciting is 2000 cameras watching you down Oxford Street and if you're nicked without a ticket on the bus they can trace everything just by scanning your OYSTERCARD. Read 1984 and be afraid be very afraid...other than that you can join the masquerade at Carnaby street...they accept plastic

Well then if it's about just the music then I assume you listen to only Classical where composer and musical ideal rule supreme. Otherwise it's POP music you silly cunt - and that does have to everything to do with 'fashion' - wether you, I , or anybody else likes it.
